AZ side effects

AZ yesterday. Have to say I think I’ve just had the illest night of my life. The bed is literally sodden. Chills are an understatement. OH was the same. Headache now but getting better. Don’t want to put anyone off. Delighted to have got it. Just wondered how many were the same? And what the reaction is likely to be after the 2nd jab?

I had AZ and 9 hours after my vaccine I started with a fever and intense shivering. I went to bed and stayed there the whole of the next day feeling exhausted and shivery, ached all over and had a fever. The day after I felt wiped out but could get up and potter in the house. I did have achey legs for about 2 weeks after but other symptoms resolved quickly.

I'm young and I've also had Covid and the jab was worse than the Covid. I realise that's not always the case but it did feel a bit ironic.

I'm not getting my second jab until we know more about these blood clots as I was very annoyed to get it just before almost every country stopped using it in my age group. It made for an anxious few weeks post-vax. I believe we don't yet have the full picture. So I'm not getting the second one but not based on the side effects I had - if it was just down to that I'd get it.

notagainmummy · 29/04/2021 09:35

Sister had the same with Pfizer I just had a sore arm. I think about 25% get the same symptoms as you

HildegardNightingale · 29/04/2021 09:43

Had my second AZ yesterday. Nil side effects. Busily cleaning the house after 3 long shifts.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 29/04/2021 09:50

Neither DH nor I had any side effects at all, I've only had one dose, DH has had both

penni00 · 29/04/2021 12:01

Pashmina696, is your post about painkillers addressed to me? I have actually had the headaches for 41 days which means 6 weeks tomorrow. Never in a million years did I expect this. It varies and sometimes I feel convinced it is going away, but then it pops back. I take paracetamol when I feel like a break from it, or when it is a going through a slightly worse patch. However, on the whole I can manage without painkillers because it is mild.and sometimes barely there. I have light sensitivity with it too, eyes are uncomfortable looking a screens which is really annoying because it limits my TV/computer time.. I still haven't contacted my GP because I, prob stupidly, cannot believe I can be that very rare one with a blood clot, plus I think I am overall steadily improving. (I am also phobic about medical people and environments so not keen on investigations). I think it is a matter of time will heal. HOPEFULLY!!!
I do wonder though exactly how many people out there have the prolonged headaches where it is not CVST clot. The people on here with prolonged headaches all seem to be getting the all clear after blood tests etc for the rare blood clotting. So what is happening to our poor heads?!

penni00 · 29/04/2021 12:12

But it is driving me crazy and I am totally fed up with it all, and the second dose dilemma is worrying me to death!

buckleten · 29/04/2021 12:21

my husband, my sister and several friends have all had AZ, and not one of them has had any side effects at all!

Silverfly · 29/04/2021 12:22

I had AZ on Tuesday, no side effects except a sore arm.

hedgehogger1 · 29/04/2021 14:11

My husband was the same but fine after 24 hours

NearlyAlwaysInsane · 29/04/2021 14:21

Both my parents had AZ. Both had side effects both times. One (DM) had to take to her bed both times due to feeling too ill with it. As far as we know she had not had Covid before.

pashmina696 · 29/04/2021 19:15

Penni00 yes sorry - I was rushing to work as I typed... and to any others with these constant headaches - I am struggling without painkillers though paracetamol isn't working well at all. My head is sore at various pressure points - is so bizarre - I would love an answer to this!

sweetheartyparty · 29/04/2021 20:52

I had thr AZ yesterday and I've felt shivery and achey all day. Its the worse I've felt for years. Do you think which blood group you are has an effect? I read that covid affects people with this blood group a more than other groups. That's what I am

penni00 · 29/04/2021 21:07

Pashmina696. Yours seems more in need of painkillers than mine I think, although I am not working and lounging on the sofa. If I were working I think I would definitely be taking the painkillers then. My headache has moved about over tho course of time. The initial weeks it was at the front of my head above my eyes, then it moved more to my temples, it currently is more on the right hand side of my head, with a numb patch lower down my head. I am not a headachy person normally. I am wondering if those people who have had the Pfizer or Moderna are experiencing the prolonged constant headaches too. (I can't help wondering would I have been ok had I had a different vaccine).

pashmina696 · 30/04/2021 12:28

Penni00 you and me both! My headache is all over my head and my head is tender to touch in places as well - I work on a computer so just can't manage that without pain relief... so annoying

Shopaholic100 · 30/04/2021 12:34

Has anyone noticed their blood is more runny/thinner after having the AZ vaccination? I had the vaccination on Sunday and cut my finger this morning and it took a lot longer to clot than usual also the consistency seemed a little different. My friend experienced the same. Anyone else?

freeez · 30/04/2021 12:38

I had my first dose yesterday afternoon.

Sore arm and that general white blood cell feeling - achy muscles, twingy joints and feel cold. No headache or fever. Feel a bit tired but it's not too bad. Hoping this is as bad as it gets!

Sparks779 · 01/05/2021 23:13

@CoalHouseDoor how are you doing now. Are you any better with the side effects of the vaccine

Blueskytoday06 · 02/05/2021 11:40

I was expecting to feel horrendous but other than a dead arm it's been fine. I've taken Nurofen.
I had mine yesterday at 1pm. I slept really well.

funtimefrank · 02/05/2021 12:05

I had mine yesterday evening. Was not prepared for just how sore sore arm actually was!

Was fine last night but woke up this morning with dreadful aches and am shuffling about like I'm 95. Have headache and am tired and not hungry but very thirsty.

Had awful chills and shakes for about an hour this morning and realised that my paracetamol is all out of date so took Calpol (my 11 year old highly amused and insisted on dosing me with the syringe) which seems to have calmed them down.

Dh and dm had nothing other than the arm so sympathy limited but kids off bubbling with grandma tonight and I have an afternoon to veg

HoxtonBonnet · 03/05/2021 00:13

I had my vaccination 11 days ago. When I was getting into the shower this evening I noticed that my vaccinated arm has become swollen and has a rash around the injected area. My whole arm feels a bit odd and 'numb'. I googled it (!) and apparently a delayed rash is something a few people have had - apparently it's known as 'COVID arm'! It generally goes within a week and is nothing to worry about. I am wondering whether I should let my gp know that this has happened.

Has anyone else had this?

RumHoney · 03/05/2021 09:10

AZ yesterday at 4.30. this morning I have a slightly sore arm and am feeling a bit lethargic. I slept later than I usually do and needed a coffee to get moving. Maybe a slight headache but I only really notice it because I'm checking my symptoms - if I hadn't had the jab yesterday it probably wouldn't be enough to actually notice.

I'd planned to use the bank holiday as a post vaccine day in bed if necessary anyway so am lazing around with a book but if I had something to do I wouldn't have an issue getting up and doing it.

Silkiecats · 03/05/2021 09:59

dh had his in Feb and had it at 10am fine that day until around 10pm then got very drowsy, very high fever, shaking, bad headache until midday next day. Then seemed OK. He is normally never ill.

I had mine on Friday at 11.30am, went swimming in lido afterwards, then felt tired, weirdly dh pointed out some of my skin had fallen off but was just first layer and recovered fine around injection site and one hand that touched injection site. Mild headache, very thirsty, tongue feels on fire and bit swollen but generally fine first 24 hours feeling I've escaped side effects then wham. Started shivering a lot then sweating a lot, headache, very drowsy, flu like, mouth feels like I need a fire engine to put out flames and this goes on for 24 hours or so. Then wake up feeling a lot better just mild headaches, odd stabbing pains, sleepy and itching everywhere with red skin but definitely improving. I have lots of allergies and ME and asthma so expected to have side effects. Would recommend Friday so have weekend to rest.

Was feeling wish I could have had Moderna but Dh phoned bil and sil in France who had that on Saturday together, not a great idea if you have kids and both were very ill, bil too ill to speak on phone. Dh is due his second next Friday, will see how he is after that. We aren't aware of having covid before but 2 kids in secondary. One thing I was worried about was getting breathless as have asthma but not had that.

Sallycinnamum · 03/05/2021 10:05

I had my jab on Saturday afternoon and felt absolutely dreadful yesterday.

No high temperature but felt like I had full blown flu. Was very thirsty and slept most of the day.

Feel much better today but a bit wiped out so will take it easy and just potter around the house.

DH had no side effects at all apart from a sore arm so it does seem to affect people very differently.

FrenchyQ · 03/05/2021 10:10

Had mine at 9.30 yesterday. By 8pm I was shaky and cold and then really hot (temp of 39.9). Feel really achey this morning

Glitterandunicorns · 03/05/2021 16:39

I had mine yesterday morning. About ten hours later, I started feeling really cold and shivery and exhausted. Last night I was really nauseous and didn't sleep at all well because of it.
This morning the nausea settled down a bit but I still feel like I've got a rough cold. No temperature, but I feel really cold and shivery and exhausted (although my tiredness could also be down to lack of sleep last night). I also have a banging headache. I wouldn't have been able to work today.

In saying that, it's still all definitely better than getting COVID, so I don't regret getting it.
