AZ side effects

AZ yesterday. Have to say I think I’ve just had the illest night of my life. The bed is literally sodden. Chills are an understatement. OH was the same. Headache now but getting better. Don’t want to put anyone off. Delighted to have got it. Just wondered how many were the same? And what the reaction is likely to be after the 2nd jab?

I thought I'd got away with it. Had my vax on Friday evening, felt fine yesterday but today I've just been exhausted. Tired to my bones. I've literally done nothing except sleep and lie on the sofa. Hoping I feel better after a good night's sleep otherwise there is no way I'll be able to do any work tomorrow if it still feel like this.

BunsyGirl · 25/04/2021 21:31

@provencegal How long was your headache? I am on day 8 and still have a headache.

MrsLeclerc · 25/04/2021 21:44

DF had his second dose 3 days ago and is fine after having really rough side effects from the first jab. He was ill for over a week from the first AZ jab.

I had my first dose on Friday and have spent the whole weekend lying in bed or on the sofa. Chills, aching muscles and a headache were the worst of it. I have been taking paracetamol and surprisingly it’s helped a lot.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 25/04/2021 21:55

I had my second AZ dose on Friday. Had no side effects apart from a sore arm from first one, however after this one (at 5pm) I was in bed at 10.15 pm as was shattered and had a headache. Slept nearly 12 hours ( which was actually lovely!]. have had the headache all weekend, it is slowly wearing off now.

Supersimkin2 · 25/04/2021 22:51

Day 4 - I wish someone had warned me, is all. Dizzy, exhausted and in pain: but the vomiting has stopped.

Went for little bag of cat litter from corner shop and fell over trying to lift it. Had to bail out of work, and am facing a week off.

Cross. I’m not a squealer, but this jab is like being beaten up.

frozendaisy · 26/04/2021 08:18

Thanks for this thread everyone.
AZ yesterday, 8 hours later shivering, got warm in bed was then the temperature of hell.

Bizarre boring, hallucination dreams.
Feel bit weak but better this morning taking paracetamol for a couple of days.

Immune system hasn't had a work out like this for months.

Trying81 · 26/04/2021 08:33

Mine yesterday, about 5/6 hours after it started to burn up and couldn’t keep eyes open

Slept a lot, arm is now painful and just generally feel run down - it’s not horrific, the fatigue is the worst of it currently

daisybrown37 · 26/04/2021 08:35

Just under 48 hours from first dose, arm is already less sore than yesterday. Had a good night sleep and feeling fine today.

provencegal · 26/04/2021 10:20

bunsygirl four weeks just over the headache lasted. Please go to the GP and get a quick blood test if you still have a headache now or in the next few days. It only takes a second, but it will rule out clots and will make you feel less worried.

My headaches are still coming back a little, but easing off finally.

Glitterblue · 26/04/2021 10:25

I just came on to ask if anyone else found the exhaustion absolutely crippling and I see some of you have commented about it. It really is something else, isn't it? I was over the worst of the really awful symptoms by Saturday night but my goodness, the exhaustion! And on top of that, I can't even sleep! I was so exhausted last night, I could have burst into tears, I was also very grumpy which isn't like me at all, yet when I got to bed, no sleep was to be had. I can barely drag myself about - I feel as if I'm so very heavy.

MsTSwift · 26/04/2021 10:44

Had mine last Wednesday exhaustion was gone by Sunday. In between I had to keep napping and could just about work and do my usual chores albeit slowly but no exercise possible whatsoever.

Orchidflower1 · 26/04/2021 10:46

Just wanted to add my 2 pence worth. Had my second dose and side effects nowhere near as bad.

MsTSwift · 26/04/2021 10:56

Good to hear!

Trying81 · 26/04/2021 13:13

@Glitterblue I feel the same with the heaviness

It’s like I have weights tied around my limbs - managing to work from home but it’s a struggle

Glitterblue · 26/04/2021 14:09

@Trying81 yes!! That's a perfect description!

MiaRoma · 26/04/2021 14:11

@penni00 I've messaged you

MadisonAvenue · 26/04/2021 14:13

Had my second yesterday and the side effects aren’t anywhere near as bad as with the first one. I don’t feel 100% but it’s not stopping me from doing anything.

Shopaholic100 · 26/04/2021 16:25

I had the AZ vaccination at 1pm yesterday. Felt completely fine, thought I’d escaped any side effects, until 1pm today (24 hours). When the following occurred:

  • A bruise appeared lower down my arm from the jab site about the size of a 10p coin.
  • The jab site was tender to touch, but no bruise. Similar to when I’ve previously been vaccinated.
  • I had very slight nausea but that passed in about 15 minutes.
  • Chills inside my body, I feel really cold. No high temperature though.
  • My body feels very achy, especially my legs like when you have the flu. This has been the worst symptom so far, feels like they’re being crushed inside.

I’m lying down on the sofa feeling sorry for myself with a nice fluffy blanket.😀

Shopaholic100 · 26/04/2021 16:29

My friend on the other hand, was completely fine, no symptoms at all. It’s funny how every body reacts differently.

penni00 · 26/04/2021 17:49

Does anyone know whether it is just the UK who are saying the rare clot is only occurring after the first AZ dose? I am just concerned that second doses in younger people may not have been rolled out in high enough numbers in the UK to know this yet. Also abroad, France and Germany for example, they are giving a different type of vaccine for the second dose ie MRNA Pfizer to those under a certain age who had AZ as their first dose. Why are they gambling mixing vaccines when not trialed, unless maybe they believe that rare clots can happen on the second AZ dose. Have other countries found the rare clots happening with second AZ doses?

Scratchpostkitty · 26/04/2021 18:11

Thought I'd share my side effects. Had AZ at 3pm yesterday. During the night I started to feel cold, then hot; kept alternating. I couldn't sleep. My body aches, but fortunately, no headache. I have done nothing all day and still feel as rubbish. Really hoping I feel OK tomorrow. Did not expect to be so floored by this.

ApplyWithin · 26/04/2021 18:19

Gosh, I’m dreading this. I got my text today inviting me to book. I don’t want it! I’m too busy to have several days of illness right now. It sounds awful. Worse than Covid for most healthy people.

Scratchpostkitty · 26/04/2021 18:38

@ApplyWithin I am still glad I had it. Will have the second. I think it is a case of tryng to planning it, so you've got time off work etc, although that's difficult if your symptoms persist. I know quite a few people that have been absolutely fine after anyway.

Meredusoleil · 26/04/2021 18:50

This is exactly what I thought before I had my first dose on Friday. Touch wood, apart from a very sore arm, I have been fine. Although was feeling very cold today, but probably just the weather rather than me personally!

I do almost wish I hadn't read this thread as people's comments did worry me before getting it done. Ignorance would definitely have been bliss in this case I say!

Randommother · 26/04/2021 18:51

I had my first in Feb, and had bad chills the following day. I also had lots of mouth ulcers, and hot flushes (I'm peri menopausal, so these may be coincidental, but it was an obvious increase)

I had my second 2 weeks ago, and no side effects at all. However... last week about 10 days post vaccine I started getting what I thought was a muscular pain in my back, its gradually worsened and I have pain in my back, shoulder and chest on my right hand side, especially when i breathe in. I had a phone consultation with my GP today, who thinks its muscular as I'm not short of breath. I've just been told to monitor it, so it may or may not be related.
