AZ side effects

AZ yesterday. Have to say I think I’ve just had the illest night of my life. The bed is literally sodden. Chills are an understatement. OH was the same. Headache now but getting better. Don’t want to put anyone off. Delighted to have got it. Just wondered how many were the same? And what the reaction is likely to be after the 2nd jab?

@penni00

For those like me that have prolonged mild headache since the vac, I also have sensitivity to bright light and eyes hurting slightly when looking at screens that has accompanied the prolonged mild headache. It is making me wonder whether as peoples blood tests are coming back ok what these headaches are. Could the AZ trigger chronic migraines? Could the AZ upset nerves that take weeks to settle? I want to know exactly what the headaches are all about plus whether they will definitely go away altogether eventually. Mine has improved over time but if the AZ doses were 4 weeks apart as originally planned, there is no way I would have wanted to have a second dose at the 4 week point. I will not have the second dose if I still have the headache at the 12 week point. I assume AZ looked for prolonged mild side effects in their trials???
I'd like these answers too @penni00

@IncyWincySpiderOnRepeat

Question for those who have been unwell after the AZ jab.... do you think you would have been able to look after a 6 month old solo during the first 24-48 hours after the jab?

I can book mine now but have no help with my 6 month and 6 year old overnight for 6 nights (and days) of the week so am feeling a bit nervous about the severity of the side effects being discussed on this thread.

No way on Earth. I had to be taken to the toilet as I was not able to stand up unaided.

AZ on Wednesday. Felt general not great and needed to rest on Thursday. Friday feel ok and functioning as normal but still feel quite wiped out and unable to exercise.

Kitcat122 · 24/04/2021 11:57

I had my jab in the morning. Went to work and felt fine. Started to feel very cold by 8.00pm then very achy. Took paracetamol, Went to bed at 10. Slept very well and felt abit achey and tired the next day but went to work with paracetamol. 2nd day felt slightly heavy headed. I have had Covid already, as a fit healthy person I would take the Jab over Covid any day.

MsTSwift · 24/04/2021 14:02

How long did people’s fatigue last? I am on day 3 don’t feel unwell anymore but low energy am functioning can work chores etc. but can’t face exercise.

marchishere · 24/04/2021 14:06

AZ jab tues 10.30, felt tired and achy by 10pm, felt "fluey" and a bit sleepless all night but not terrible, felt very fatigued and a bit achy all the next day and then perked up by weds night. Absolutely fine by thurs am. Sore arm too.

My fatigue has lasted a week so far. Which is annoying because I want to go back to the gym.

@ofallthedays2

I’m seriously considering not getting the jab after reading this thread. I’m in my 30s and the chances of me catching Covid and getting seriously ill from it are tiny.
The side effects are a bit scary to read, but I know a couple of people in their 30s who got Covid, one was off work for 2 weeks. The other was unable to get out her bed for several weeks and was still only able to work part time 4 months later.

I would rather take my risk with the vaccine than covid.

HappyThursdays · 24/04/2021 15:47

I had mine Wednesday morning and went for a run this morning. I forced myself to do it mind and ran 1km short of what I would normally do and was slower!

I missed going out Friday night as I felt shite still and I still have a headache despite nurofen and paracetamol but my energy is back, I haven't got that brain fog anymore so I'm hopeful that's it!

I had mine on Wednesday and feel fine today. Felt a bit fluey Thursday and Friday.

Day 3 post AZ here. The vomiting has, I hope, finally stopped. Fever easing a bit, sudden period has ended. Sweating is unreal.

Trying to eat now in the hope regular meds will stay down for the first time in 3 days.

Supersimkin2 · 24/04/2021 17:28

@IncyWincySpiderOnRepeat - no way. I'm tough and live alone, but I was throwing too hard to move for some hours. Get childcare, good luck.

Oh god, that sounds awful. I thought I was bad with the headache from hell along with horrific sweats and chills and aching from head to foot, thank god I wasn't actually sick but I felt very sick during the night. I really can't cope with feeling/being sick. I'm now finally up but feel so weak and dizzy. I desperately want a shower but haven't got the energy yet 😩
galliton · 24/04/2021 18:23

If it helps anyone, I had AZ second jab earlier in the week. My first jab made me very poorly indeed for 48 hrs with the sort of symptoms others have described on here. However, with the second jab I just had a very slight rise in temperature and a bit of a headache, but very mild indeed, especially when compared to the first. I hope that this helps reassure folks that the second is way better. Good luck!

IncyWincySpiderOnRepeat · 24/04/2021 19:01

Thank you for the replies, sounds like I’d better wait until dh can book some annual leave.

I really hope everyone feels much better soon, slightly dreading this now 😬

TweedFox · 24/04/2021 19:26

Had mine yesterday lunchtime. Went to bed feeling cold but ok. Woke up in the early hours with a high fever, rigours, a splitting headache, and every muscle/bone aching. Brutal! Odd to be boiling hot and freezing cold at the same time!

Woke up feeling okish but back in bed with another high temp and aches this afternoon.

Quite reassuring reading others' experiences! I was fully expecting to feel unwell this weekend but really did not expect it to be as bad as it has been!

Praying for a better night and a catch up on lost sleep.

Hope everyone suffering feels better soon, what a vicious jab!

provencegal · 24/04/2021 21:09

penni my thoughts exactly. I have spoken to gp who is convinced it is nothing to worry about.

ofall the new variants are affecting much younger people - a headache is nothing compared to CoVid.

Glitterblue · 24/04/2021 21:49

@tweedfox you're 24 hours behind me, I have begun to feel a lot more "human" since managing to eat something around 6ish tonight then had a shower. Apart from very tired, I feel more or less normal now. A massive difference from how I felt even 10 hours ago. Hopefully you'll be over the worst by tomorrow.

Glitterblue · 24/04/2021 21:51

@IncyWincySpiderOnRepeat you might be one of the lucky ones, fingers crossed! DH had his the same time as me and he's been absolutely fine, just a sore arm. PIL both had the AZ and both were fine. Fingers crossed for you!

Supersimkin2 · 24/04/2021 21:57

Turns out eating on day 3 post-jab wasn't a good idea. Neither was trying to shower when you're this dizzy. Managed to get clean but tonight will be the third fever night of not much sleep.

Very tired now.

If we'd been warned about this, I could have arranged cover for work/bought in flu meds/had the shopping delivered.

Holshicup · 24/04/2021 23:27

Day 3 sore arm much better, still no other symptoms.
Sympathy to what appears to be the overwhelming majority of posters here who are suffering, but for anyone due a vacation please don't take it as a given you will be ill.
Ex partner reports a sore arm and fatigue but no other side effects.

Holshicup · 24/04/2021 23:29

Vaccination even!

longingforthesand · 25/04/2021 00:47

I also have sensitivity to bright light and eyes hurting slightly when looking at screens

@penni00 I think I mentioned this on another thread. I once had bad light sensitivity and eye pain as a result of a bad flare up of herpes simplex (cold sore). It resolved in a couple of weeks but was quite scary and uncomfortable. I later read that light sensitivity sometimes follows a viral infection. So it may be a symptom of your body producing antibodies against the antigen in the vaccine.

penni00 · 25/04/2021 01:12

Thank you longingforthesand.
Strangely I had shingles almost 18 months ago that has felt like it has never completely gone out of my system, the shingles on my side and back, not near my head. But it is a similar virus to herpes simplex I believe, which is interesting after your experience.

I am relieved to say thank God, that this is exactly the same for me. Had the first dose on Friday afternoon, so nearly 2 days ago now. Apart from a very sore arm, worse than for the normal flu jab, I seem to be OK. A bit grumpy, but that might be just my usual self 😜
