AZ side effects

AZ yesterday. Have to say I think I’ve just had the illest night of my life. The bed is literally sodden. Chills are an understatement. OH was the same. Headache now but getting better. Don’t want to put anyone off. Delighted to have got it. Just wondered how many were the same? And what the reaction is likely to be after the 2nd jab?

I had my first AZ vaccine in Feb, my arm hurt almost instantly and I had a weird sensation in that hand. I felt unwell for approximately 36 hours afterwards with aches, pains and an overwhelming exhaustion.

Had my second AZ vaccine on Friday, felt fine immediately afterwards, but in the early hours I woke up and can only describe it as feeling as though ice cold water was shooting through my veins, accompanied by an awful headache and aches and pains everywhere. I couldn’t get warm, felt cold to the bone but by morning I was hot to touch, but shivering and shaking. I couldn’t stay awake on Saturday and felt lousy. Nausea started yesterday, followed by dizziness. Today is more of the same, headache is barely touched by painkillers, eyes feel heavy and light sensitive, brain fog, dizziness, blood pressure is low and lowers further when standing. My resting pulse has dropped to 45bpm (I’m in my early 40’s) which normally sits around 53bpm. I couldn’t go into work today, I am not capable of driving, the exhaustion is overwhelming.

In my case, 2nd dose has been far worse than 1st. I’m normally at the gym every day, this has floored me! But, despite all this, I’m still glad to have been vaccinated but not sure I’d want to repeat this annually. I don’t react to the flu jab.

I had the AZ yesterday night and was woken at 7am with crushing chest pain. It was so agonising I could barely think and I called 999 in a panic. While I was on the phone to them I passed out. It was awful, I had the absolute conviction that I was dying. I hadn't had any anxiety about getting it and actually thought I'd escaped without side effects as I felt fine all night. They checked me over in the hospital and everything seemed fine so we put it down to an odd reaction. Has anyone else had something similar? I'm massively pro-vaccination and I'm still glad I had it but would feel reassured if someone else had experienced the same!

daisybrown37 · 26/04/2021 19:43

@ApplyWithin. I know it seems scary, but you will probably be fine or just have mild side effects. I had one day feeling less than 100% and I am fine today. Try and go for a Friday so you have the weekend just in case.

EmmaStone · 26/04/2021 21:04

@ApplyWithin my GP friend told me it's 50/50 whether you'll have any reaction, and within that 50% that do, symptoms may only be slight. Don't let it put you off, a thread like this would tend to attract those who"ve suffered more. My reaction was very slight, like a very mild hangover, tiny bit of a headache, a little bit sleepy, but didn't stop me from doing anything. It's not all bad 😀

Could that have been a panic attack? It sounds more like a panic attack than a vaccination reaction

What ever it was, it sounds very scary!

Shopaholic100 · 26/04/2021 22:39

Did anyone else get a random bruise?

peachgreen · 26/04/2021 23:50

@LynetteScavo no, because I was woken by the pain so nothing going on in my head beforehand! I also wasn't anxious about it at all. The faintness was also because my blood sugars were very low. Just one of those freak things and quote possibly coincidence rather than related to the vaccine. I will definitely still be getting my second jab!

MrsHastingslikethebattle · 26/04/2021 23:55

I've has my 2nd AZ Thursday, but for about an week my leg has felt stiff. Now it feels like pins and needles. I'm paranoid it's a blood clot.
I'm not someone who buys into the scare mongering shit, I know its 1 in like a million chance but knowing my luck, itll fucking me.

Meredusoleil · 27/04/2021 00:28

Did anyone else get a random bruise?
Yes. I've got one on my arm, but not where I thought I was jabbed lol. Slightly underneath iyswim?
Shopaholic100 · 27/04/2021 01:31

Mine is in the same place.

Hettylala · 27/04/2021 08:05

I had mine on Friday so I'm 4 days post jab now and after feeling crap on Sunday and tired and grumpy yesterday, I've woken up today feeling grand. I've been for a walk in the sun already this morning, yesterday the thought of any exercise was exhausting. I'm glad I've had it.

WarriorN · 27/04/2021 08:32

Had AZ yesterday lunchtime; I feel a bit crap and tired today but was feeling worse before jab actually with a body achey period. Hoping paracetamol helps.

It's always 50/50 with the flu jab; I sometimes feel a bit achey and meh for a few days.

One year had to take time off but I think was also coming down with a cold at the same time which didn't help. So no idea if it was the jab or cold causing temp and aches .

crackofdoom · 27/04/2021 15:03

I had mine about 24 hours ago, and have spent the day in bed with mild flu like symptoms. Just slept for a couple of hours, and now I’m feeling less fluey, but really exhausted- struggling to keep my eyes open.

WarriorN · 27/04/2021 18:16

I had a woozy morning, managed a short nap with toddler and felt better. So far all within 24 hours.

I'm tired but always am at this point of period.

Moonwhite · 27/04/2021 22:13

all had a horrible night after it. Fatigue is still an issue a few days later

Me too. Full on fly symptoms. But I was fully back to normal within 5 days though.

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 27/04/2021 22:26

I had mine just over 3 weeks ago. I had aches and tiredness for the first 2 days, then just generally felt tired. Feel fine now but weirdly have had a really tingly foot for the last few days, don't know if it's connected, but it's not something I had pre vax. Anyone else had this? Should I be worried?

TheSockMonster · 27/04/2021 23:12

I went to bed early on the day I had mine, feeling cold and with a bit of a headache. I woke in the middle of the night feeling very nauseous then spent the rest of the night shivering violently and vomiting up stomach acid. Banging headache too, but I’m a migraine sufferer so nothing unexpected there. I was a bit worried the next day as I was having horrid stomach pains and it hurt to take a deep breath, before figuring out that I’d just strained my stomach muscles with all the vomiting!

I’m glad I had it but dreading the next dose. I have honestly not felt that bad since having norovirus when pregnant. Hopefully they’ll be able to tinker with the adjuvant before next year’s one comes out to reduce the side effects for those of us with overreactive immune systems.

nutmegsteddytoes · 27/04/2021 23:47

I had Covid last March and the mild side effects from the first jab was minimal in comparison.
The only thing I've had now for a month since the jab is a mild headache every day.

I had pin and needles in my left foot very soon after the jab. But they soon went away!

More than once now, I've had a sharp pain in my right arm in the equivalent place where the jab is on my left arm. Very weird that. Anyone else?

capercaillie · 28/04/2021 07:08

I’ve had a very sore arm and felt slightly flushed for about 24hours. Also didn’t sleep well that night. But after that fine.

HappyThursdays · 28/04/2021 10:43

@Ifyourefeelingsinister I had mine last wednesday and had really tingly foot for the last few days but it seems to have gone now. I can't say I've ever had a tingly foot before and hopefully I won't have it again!

WarriorN · 28/04/2021 19:01

Feeling ok now, started to feel better exactly 48 hours later. Washed out and fitful achey sleeps both nights, woozy in the morning 24 hours later.

It coincided with a terrible period which started before the jab; I actually think I possibly ached all over more from that than the jab.

Slightly sore arm.

pashmina696 · 29/04/2021 07:43

I am glad I found this thread- I am on day 8 of the low level headache following my second AZ jab, only had a headache for a day or two following the first one and this headache is driving me crazy - painkillers don't really touch it and the top of my head is sore to touch now as well.. my neck is stiff too. I have been fully checked out in a&e blood tests and CT scan... all clear but would love to know if anyone gets to the bottom of this. It isn't going to be resolved by a 2nd vaccine!!!!

penni00 · 29/04/2021 09:00

Pashmina696, gosh I quite thought the second dose might be 'easier' with the side effects. Do the doctors have no idea why this is happening? Do they say it is the nerves being upset by the vaccine? Do CT scans show that sort of thing? Do CT scans always show any inflammation or maybe they do not show mild inflammation? I am on day 41 of mild headache from the first dose, and am reluctant to get the second dose, especially if a second dose is worse on my head than the first dose! It is good that you have managed to complete the 2 dose course, at least you do not have the dilemma of deciding whether to have a second dose. You will have the immunity from Covid at least. Hopefully the headache will all resolve quickly for you.

pashmina696 · 29/04/2021 09:07

Thanks - well I had different side effects of the first that resolved in 2-3 days apart from my injection site which was inflamed for 2 weeks - I am waiting a referral to a neurologist so I really don't know anything other than I am not dying of a blood clot. Apparently the neurologist would see more in the scan. So I am waiting - I don't know how you have got through 4 weeks of this!! I hope it goes away - have you taken painkiller every day? Which ones? So sorry
