I just want my cut and colour.

Framing it as anti-feminist to have guidance that says highlights not recommended strikes me as massively missing the point of feminism.

Quite. And if you read the guidance – something the OP is giving the impression she hasn’t done – it doesn’t actually mention highlights, or colouring, or hairdressers actually being told they can’t do anything.

MercyBooth · 10/04/2021 00:23

@MyDcAreMarvel The way the Government has handled this whole pandemic is psychologically abusive. Im not a bloody Covid denier. Im aware it is a serious disease. But the country cant go on like this.

OP posts:
MercyBooth · 10/04/2021 00:25

A lot of the stand alone salons are owned and run by women. Its more than just hair. its also peoples livelihoods.

OP posts:
AcornAutumn · 10/04/2021 00:27

I hope Mercy doesn't mind me saying this

Mercy has made many measured contributions and absolutely sees all sides in a calm rational way.

In fact, unlike me, I think Mercy did not begin from a place of being anti lockdown?

But there is bound to be a last straw and some moments where we feel completely unable to cope.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/04/2021 00:29

No it’s not been psychological abuse what is wrong with you! I haven’t been able to leave my home like millions of others for months on end that was/is hard psychologically but was absolutely necessary.
Shielding disabled children is heartbreaking. But your fucking roots!
It would be easier to deal with attitudes like yours if you were so unintelligent to be a Covid denier.
But you understand the pandemic is real but think your hair takes priority.

MercyBooth · 10/04/2021 00:30

Thank You @AcornAutumn Flowers I did post on the worried about Coronavirus threads on here originally but after seeing the absolutely disgusting way ppl who cant wear masks were being treated i slowly began to revise my opinions over time.

OP posts:
Sbk28 · 10/04/2021 00:30
@Sbk28 Ive mentioned those other issues as well. They arent mutually exclusive. I am capable of caring about more than one thing. So thanks for the whataboutery but no thanks.
There was no whataboutery.

I really don't think this is a feminist issue in the slightest.

Sbk28 · 10/04/2021 00:32

If you actually read the article linked in your first post, it is clear that salon owners are taking the guidance with a huge pinch of salt anyway and will be operating in the way they see fit. As they should.

MercyBooth · 10/04/2021 00:33

@MyDcAreMarvel DH is disabled. He is 71 and has COPD. Flu could be dangerous to him. But no one. NO ONE ever offered to wear a mask to protect him in the past pre Covid.
And im well aware about the shielding of disabled children. My niece works with them.

My friend is having chemotherapy and is losing her hair. I have dyed blonde hair with terrible brown/grey roots, but there’s no way I’d complain, because I actually realise what’s important. Get a grip OP and have this Biscuit

Fridget · 10/04/2021 00:36

I colour my own hair so couldn’t personally give a shit, but although it is guidance, it is stupid guidance.

Consider providing more basic treatments? Why in the fuck would or should they when they’ve been forcibly closed for not far off half of the last year?

Consider how to shorten appointments for treatments such as a massage? Isn’t the point of a massage that you pay for a specific duration?

People have already had enough of the restrictions. I want us to come out of lockdown successfully and permanently - idiotic guidelines like those don’t actually help to foster goodwill and compliance.

LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 10/04/2021 00:36

@MercyBooth

Im fucking sick of how we are all being shat on and shat on and shat on. The sacrifices the public have made and the abuse from them just keeps on coming.
I'm not sure that not being able to have your hair dyed constitutes abuse...
mooonstone · 10/04/2021 00:36

What am I missing? Where does it say that highlights are banned in that article?

doublehalo · 10/04/2021 00:37

I'm with you OP. It's a load of absolute useless fucking nonsense.

notangelinajolie · 10/04/2021 00:37

@MercyBooth

Im fucking sick of how we are all being shat on and shat on and shat on. The sacrifices the public have made and the abuse from them just keeps on coming.
Blimey, it's just the hairdresser's Hmm Tesco sell hair dye and can you not do a trim yourself? I have hardly any hair after years of hair loss and what is left is white and wispy so I need to see a hairdresser just as much as the next person but it's hardly a sacrifice. We are all in the same boat - just chill and wait like everyone else.
MercyBooth · 10/04/2021 00:39

I find the whole ad campaign (look them in the eyes) and the way they behaved (especially in the run up to Christmas) psychologically abusive.
This country does not have a decent enough infrastructure to cope with a lockdown (see eon security hack where ppl were left without electric) lack of wifi and internet for children for home learning because some cant afford it.
They lock us down and instead of acknowledging the sacrifices we make they shit on us or add to the mental load. The bloody census could have been postponed till next year. THEY are happy to carry on like there isnt a pandemic with their magic non growing hair and only giving us a matter of days to fill a census in as if there isnt a lockdown and like its normal times Filled ours in . But what about ppl who might need help filling it in. How are they going to find that help in a a matter of days and b. in a lockdown.
They want it all ways and im fucking fed up with the psychological abuse and the gaslighting.
A long time ago i was in a emotionally and financially abusive relationship and i find this worse. I walked away from him I didnt live with him fortunately. I cant walk away from this. Its everywhere. On posters on the TV in newspapers.
I remember playing that game as a child where if you avoided the cracks in the pavement bad luck/illness wouldnt befall you. Never in my wildest dreams did i think i would be forced to play it in my town centre as an adult!! To cope with the fact that i feel abused i turned to food. Friends have turned to wine to cope. 48% of people have gained weight during lockdown due to using food and drink as a crutch. Because everything else was taken away. I was badly psychologically affected by their behaviour in the run up to Christmas. Then they dare to moan about weight when they have shut gyms. I usually have my hair cut and coloured at a hairdresser which is a local stand alone family business. Im sorry but looking and feeling like a scruff bag does not induce motivation. I KNOW how to be healthy I successfully lost ten stone in the early 2000s. But i cant bring myself to care that much anymore.

OP posts:
MercyBooth · 10/04/2021 00:41

That was from another thread. I never said i found not having my hair done psychologically abusive. But i found the Governments behaviour to be that way.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 10/04/2021 00:43

I'm guessing this isn't just about a guidance regarding hair highlighting, OP? Confused

MercyBooth · 10/04/2021 00:44

Its my last straw moment Everybody has one

OP posts:
Sbk28 · 10/04/2021 00:49

Ok OP, I hear you now and I get that it's not just about your hair, but about everything being too much. Lots of us have felt like that at times throughout this.

If you can, try to avoid the news and talking about covid for a while. To find articles like the one in your op, I imagine you're reading a lot of covid news. It's not going to make you happier.

Is there something you can look forward to at the moment? Or someone you can talk to? Is this thread helping you or making you feel worse?

Lovesacake · 10/04/2021 00:49

I think it really will be ok and your hairdresser will do your hair as planned

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2021 00:50

@MercyBooth

Its my last straw moment Everybody has one
True, it happens to us all Thanks

It's a bit like opening a cupboard and bursting into tears because a glass jar has fallen out.

It's never about the actual jar.

jessstan2 · 10/04/2021 00:53

Who cares, honestly. Aren't there more important issues about which to be concerned? I can't imagine anything more tedious than having to sit in a salon for ages with tin foil stuck on my head, listening to inane chatter.

jessstan2 · 10/04/2021 00:54

I do 'get' that everyone has a last straw.

5zeds · 10/04/2021 00:54

I think shaving your head would be a good reset OP. Having uncut/coloured hair is not important and you are perfectly able to cope with far worse things.
