I makes sense, about minimising time spent and exposure and about allergies.

And I say that as someone who can easily pass for an extra in Vikings, except greyer.

I think I'll have a cut and make do with a box of Josh Wood's finest, until this is over.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 11/04/2021 19:20

@nannygoat50

My hairdresser says I have to have a skin test before she will colour . Despite the fact I’ve had same brand in colour on for years!!!!She said it’s because COVID can make you react snd her insurance won’t cover her 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️WTF
I used the same hair colour at the same salon for years. Didn't stop me needing to be blue lighted to hospital due to a massive allergic reaction in 2016. Tbh I think skin testing should be compulsory regardless of how often you get your hair coloured or what brand you use.
CLCB07 · 11/04/2021 19:34

I had highlights, root colour and cut and blow almost 3 weeks ago (Wales). Not heard of this guideline.

MotherofPearl · 11/04/2021 19:47

OP, I get where you're coming from. It feels like the goalposts keep getting moved and it's enraging.

To me it seems it's not just about the hair appointment, but what it represents: normality. The old normal, none of this 'new normal' BS. I really hope you get your roots done. Thanks

Actually, now I come to think about it, I feel sort of liberated.

Now I have an excuse to do my own colour, instead of having to sit for bloody hours in the stupid salon, and spend a bloody fortune. The thing is I started having my colour done and sort of got stuck with it.

I do however realise many miss it, this is just my take on it.

This is a thing. Apparently some people who have been vaccinated are having a reaction to colour that they have previously used without any issue. I'd be happy your salon is being responsible and careful.

FlattestWhite · 11/04/2021 21:03

do you have any more data on that? I'm due for a colour on Wednesday and my hairdresser hasn't mentioned it, so I'd like to make sure they know if it's a thing after vaccines! I'm sure it would upset their schedule to have loads of people going in early for colour, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. How long beforehand does it have to be, does anyone know? 24/48 hours I guess is usual, but I wonder if they could do it at the start of the appointment, then do all the hair cutting etc, and then a bit later do the colour. Or I could go in an hour or two earlier.

FlattestWhite · 11/04/2021 21:05

with my salon, I think it was only every 6 months that they were doing patch tests (i.e., if you hadn't been in for 6 months). but it sounds like some are doing them after 3 or 4 months. Normally I'd be happy with 6 months, but if vaccines are really increasing reactions, then that's different.

CrankyFrankie · 11/04/2021 21:05

Jesus wept! There are some sanctimonious arseholes around here! It’s not a fucking competition, Mercy shouldn’t be feeling she needs to prove herself as having adequately suffered to warrant her feelings in the eyes of the omniscient MN jury.

Fwiw (you’ve probably heard this already but) I think their reasoning for stuff like this is that we obv want to avoid a mutation or vaccine-resistant variant. And, apparently, those are more likely to occur when the virus is in wider circulation, hence the painfully slow return to life as we knew it. Guessing the mutation/variant scenario is inevitable anyway but there we go...

I’ve a mobile hairdresser coming to do my highlights next week. If she reneges, I’ll be cracking out the Domestos!

cologne4711 · 11/04/2021 21:07

I don't know about covid, but my usual salon do a patch test every 12 weeks.

I am using a different salon later this month so I've emailed to ask about a patch test but not heard back yet.

cologne4711 · 11/04/2021 21:08

(though I've not been vaccinated yet as (just) too young to have been invited)

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/04/2021 21:38

I can't remember the last time I had a patch test at the hairdressers and I'm not asking for one now in case it delays my long awaited appointment. I'm so dosed up on antihistamines I can't see anything getting through that! Even for my eyelashes I've only ever had a patch test when I've gone to a new salon, I didn't realise it was a thing to have it done more often.

FlattestWhite · 11/04/2021 21:51

I think it might be only if you haven't been in for colour during that period of time. Normally I'd go every 4-6 weeks, so wouldn't ever need to have a patch test, after the first one when I started at that salon last summer. It's been 4 months now, and I'd normally be OK with that, as long as covid doesn't really change anything. I'm also on antihistamines, so hoping it's fine.

keffie12 · 11/04/2021 23:49

I'm booked in at my hairdressers on Friday this week and she is doing highlights, cut etc. No I don't think this is the case at all.

I think the news has just made a sensationalist headline. I mean who decides what a short period of time is?

Beauty salons, spas etc are all going back to work normally this week. I'm in for my cosmetic yearly eyebrow top up on Tuesday too.

Pampering week here. Unfortunately I can't get my reflexology until the end of March. That is a health benefit so really looking forward to that too

MercyBooth · 12/04/2021 00:04

You mean end of April? Or May?

mimosaadorna · 12/04/2021 00:13

Honestly OP, yes, life is irritating, but

, you know what’s worse ?. Worse , is I lost my mum this time last year. No goodbye, no hugs, a funeral with 8 people. I’ve been shielding for over a year ( I have an auto immune disease). I broke my leg last Christmas, I’m still in wheelchair as I’ve not been able to go and have physio. My nephew and niece both lost high powered jobs, and now have nothing, they are worried about being evicted......

And you are losing your sh*t over your hairdresser potentially not being able to do your roots ????

Get a life, and a reality check whilst you are at it......

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 12/04/2021 00:46

Psychologically abused?

Stop being such a drama llama OP

MercyBooth · 12/04/2021 00:57

@mimosaadorna Im sorry for what you have been through. I will cancel my appointment. Out of respect. I will join DH in never darkening a hair establishment again. Oh and if you need some advice for your relatives about housing? AS HelenaDove. Its my former user name. I campaign on housing all the time. I have quite a history of it and information on here. Social housing and equality is something ive always believed in and campaigned for. Because you see i am capable of caring about more than one thing. Hope that helps Flowers Smile

@mimosaadorna Incidentally though i havent been abroad since 1986. You could try your ire on those who still insisted on going on ther ski trips in Feb last year. But you wont!!

Reality check? I live in social housing where ive had to rinse my hair with washing up bowls filled with water since 1994
Your niece and nephew are unfortunately going to be in for the reality check.

MercyBooth · 12/04/2021 01:13

If more and more ppl go bust and less tax is paid how exactly is your niece and nephew going to get housing help. Whats the solution?

OP posts:
Yapplepearora · 12/04/2021 05:38

@MercyBooth. I thought the same about the niece and nephew’s ‘high powered’ jobs Hmm

Carycy · 12/04/2021 07:19

I hate people that use their own bad stuff kick someone when they are down. Reality check everyone goes through bad things at different times in their life. You don’t get to use it to beat someone with and make them feel bad for struggling. I’ve had some pretty awful stuff happen to me this year but it’s got nothing to do with people being annoyed about hairdressers guidelines. I don’t use it against people.
