So many talking about how this is the great reset, how this doesn't stop until we say it does and how we are never coming out of lockdown etc.
Think they are going to feel a bit stupid over the coming weeks!

OP posts:
CuthbertDibbleandGrubb · 05/04/2021 15:27

No sympathy for anyone who has elections on May 6th and votes Tory. Make your feelings known through the ballot box.

warmandtoasty2day · 05/04/2021 15:27

@Bluntness100

It's just like Brexiters constantly claiming that Remain forecast WWIII, economic meltdown, mass starvation etc if Brexit went ahead

To be fair sone folks did predict that, who can forget the prepping threads with folks hiding tins of beans under their beds ans urging others not to tell their neighbours they had them,

this shit in spades how's saying it now or feels a bit stupid for believing it ?
mylifeisajunkdrawer · 05/04/2021 15:28

I have not heard that OP, not even in the DM or on MN.
What I hear is the opposite - people saying the vaccine programme is working so well, we can now all go on holiday to countries that mostly have higher infection rates than us and lower vaccination rates (USA, UAE, among others) and more variants of concern than us (USA) and not need to quarantine on return. That is a very fast way back into lockdown. Maybe that is what the people mean when they say lockdown will last forever. Because this leaky borders policy is a fast track to lockdown on repeat forever.

Jo99996 · 05/04/2021 15:28

@MaxNormal

Some of the conspiracy theories are looking a lot more plausible than they used to, tbf.
Given that a lot of them are coming true...

Lets be honest this "reopening" is only temporary. come september the hystera will increase again and restrictions will slowly creep back for the winter

mylifeisajunkdrawer · 05/04/2021 15:29

I just wanted lockdown lifted internally. I would forsake foreign holidays for normal life within the UK - which we are in touching distance of now.

About to the totally screwed up by this new foreign holidays traffic light shit.

WeAllHaveWings · 05/04/2021 15:29

OP, Must be hard to be so perfect you have never said anything and then it turned out not be true?

People interpret information, put their own feelings or experience on it, voice their thoughts, and, shock/horror, sometimes get it wrong. Some thoughts are borne out of anxiety, ignorance or malicious. This is their thoughts and feelings, why do you feel the need to ridicule or tell them they are silly?

EveWasReframed · 05/04/2021 15:30

@LemonSherbetFancies

There are people on twitter calling the rest of us fools, saying we will never get back to normal and there is all part of a plan. Just because some of you haven't seen it, doesn't mean these views do not exist. Hmm
And?

The writings of Bertrand Russell exist, but I don't go looking to read them every day.

Witchesbelazy · 05/04/2021 15:31

I was the first to shoot down covid conspiracies , now we’re looking at needing to be vaccinated to do something as simple as going to the cinema and a bill introduced that makes it incredibly difficult to protest. Honestly I don’t think they were completely wrong.

toocold54 · 05/04/2021 15:36

OP from the amount of replies on this thread supporting conspiracy theorists Hmm i don’t think you’re going to get anywhere far.

The rest of us know what you mean - when it turns out that there are chips in the vaccinations to track us, or that covid was released to cull the poor, or masks are a way to remove our freedoms by removing our facial expressions or whatever other ridiculous claim was made then I might have to disagree with you.

OhShitShit · 05/04/2021 15:37

I’m not a conspiracy theorist but it will be hard to put the genie back in the bottle once we have vaccine passports.

It won’t just be a piece of paper or a picture on your phone. Or rather that passport will be back-ended with your data, your medical records... and when it’s successful? What might govt bolt onto it? And who will they bring in to deliver these projects? And what will the data protection rules be?

I’m sorry but coupled with the police bill I think we’re seeing the thin end of the wedge and I’m fucking aghast.

OhShitShit · 05/04/2021 15:38

I think it’s a real shame that many people can’t disentangle concerns about big data and civil liberties, from the Q Anon style nonsense re: masks etc.

Masks i have no issue with.
Being asked to carry proof of my vaccination status? I don’t like the smell of it.

AcornAutumn · 05/04/2021 15:39

@LemonSherbetFancies

Twitter is full of people saying lockdown is forever and they just seem so sure of themselves. Will be interesting to see how they react once all restrictions are eased.
When do you think restrictions will be removed please?
EveWasReframed · 05/04/2021 15:41

And regarding the Preppers:

You do know that most of the 'prepped' food discussed on here was either used by the person who bought it, or given away e.g. to foodbanks at a time of need?

And all the while, we continue with our extended-extended faux-post-transitional arrangements in order to soften the hard edge of the type of brexit that preppers were quite understandably a bit worried about.

We could still have major troubles in August (and onwards) with imports, just as we already have issues with exports and N.I.

But they weren't the ones who were down to their last bog roll by the day after Lockdown #1 was announced - nor were they the ones queuing outside supermarkets at 5am, were they?
EveWasReframed · 05/04/2021 15:44

I agree the police & protest Bill is appalling APPALLING I TELL YOU and I did actually write to my MP about that.

toocold54 · 05/04/2021 15:45

I’m not a conspiracy theorist but it will be hard to put the genie back in the bottle once we have vaccine passports.

I think covid passports are a good thing. Why is it fair to spread covid to a poorer country that can’t cope with it. We have furlough schemes and benefit but other countries don’t have those luxuries. Why have we been in lockdown for so long only to let lots of people with covid come here and spread it forcing us back into a lockdown.
Not to mention how many business haven’t had customers for months - why should they risk their livelihoods for the few that don’t want to be vaccinated.

SarahBellam · 05/04/2021 15:45

Twitter is full of people saying everything. It’s a cacophony of noise - hence its name.

  1. The economy needs to get moving again - I don’t think anyone would disagree with that.
  2. We need to make sure the NHS isn’t overwhelmed - again, I don’t think anyone would disagree with that.
  3. Because of 1 and 2 we need to be really careful about how we can get people back to their daily activities as safely as possible.
  4. The vaccine is a chance to do that. It also makes everyday life much safer for people who can’t have the vaccine. There are a lot of whack jobs out there with absolutely no medical training and that one bonkers nurse who spouts nonsense about vaccines on Facebook all the time, but the vast majority of proper experts support the use of the vaccine to protect us and get us back to work and play. And I am totally on board with that.
EveWasReframed · 05/04/2021 15:46

Well indeed, @NeverDropYourMoonCup. There's no no need to mock the prepared.

frozendaisy · 05/04/2021 15:48

As you say OP it's just people on Twitter with a point of view nothing more nothing less.

Sandyd1035 · 05/04/2021 15:49

Amylou 8
I totally agree with u .

bookworm1632 · 05/04/2021 15:50

Gosh Hitler got it all wrong didn't he.

If only he'd have known achieving a totalitarian state was as simple as offering people the option to take two tests a week.

I wonder what the next despotic act of the fascist state will be? Suggesting people say hi to their neighbours maybe?

Gosh the sooner the revolution arrives the safer we'll all be.

CatsHairEverywhere2 · 05/04/2021 15:51

I’m not so sure the people of Twitter really should be listened to OP, considering a large majority of them have several screws loose.
