Blood type and side effects of vaccine?

Just a quick straw poll as we've been having this discussion at home and wondered if there might be something in it.

What blood type are you?
Did you get a lot of side effects from the vaccine?
Which vaccine did you have?

Ah ok. They didn't put blood type on maternity notes when I was pregnant.

SwedishEdith · 03/04/2021 18:14

My hunch is people are mistaken about their blood type. IIRC there are always too many ABs reported on MN threads.

I'm definitely AB+. Found out during 1st pregnancy then a few years ago, after having some blood tests at the hospital, one of the documents I came home with was a credit card sized thing with AB+ in big letters on it.

yeOldeTrout · 03/04/2021 18:24

I'm one of the AB myself. I was a blood donor for many years, had regular "Please come give us your rare blood type" donation requests. I wonder why so many on MN. Maybe ABs are the people most interested in our 'rare' blood type so then we can actually remember what it is.

I will ask DD about her side effects in a minute.

knittingaddict · 03/04/2021 18:24

@knittingaddict

O negative - sore arm for 2 weeks. No other symptoms.
I did this post earlier, but forgot to say which vaccine. It was AZ.
GappyValley · 03/04/2021 18:28

B+
AZ
Mildly sore arm, hangover like grogginess for 2 days

ShowOfHands · 03/04/2021 18:34

I think as MN is populated by a lot of parents, there's a good chance that lots of people know through having been pregnant. I only know from pregnancy.

Also possible that ABs are over reported as it's a slightly more remarkable blood type so their ears will prick up at a subject where they're more interesting than the majority iyswim. A slight confirmation bias.

ConnieDobbs · 03/04/2021 18:59

Maybe ABs are more likely to have had the vaccine? Are there more ABs in the older generation? Could being AB be associated with health conditions that would result in being offered the vaccine early? Are ABs more likely to be a particular ethnicity?

SwedishEdith · 03/04/2021 19:10

Being an AB, I have looked into this a bit Grin. "Ethnicity" (not sure how categories are derived here, look a bit odd) distribution here - seems to be higher in Japanese, Chinese, Koreans and Hungarian gypsys.

DGRossetti · 03/04/2021 19:12

Blood groups are also subject to geo-ethnic factors. For added complications. The A/B/AB/O distribution varies around the globe

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blood_type_distribution_by_country

For example my (and my 2 DBs) blood grouping (all O -ve) would have been skewed by our non-British father.

allthingsred · 03/04/2021 19:13

O+ 1st jab (pfizer) completely fine
2nd nausea, painful arm, loss of appetite, chills exhausted had to take day off work.

BramStoker · 03/04/2021 19:13

B+ Pfizer - no significant side effects after 1st or 2nd jab, arm slightly sore for 24hr but nil else

DenisetheMenace · 03/04/2021 19:14

No idea of my blood type. No Ill-effects at all.
Helpful, not 😁

ReallyReallyReally · 03/04/2021 19:18

A+, AZ, Fluey (nausea, chills, fever, aches) after 24 hours which lasted 36 hours.

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 03/04/2021 19:52

A+ AZ vaccine. Nothing other than a sore arm and a sore armpit for a few hours the following day. Age 34

Mollymalone123 · 03/04/2021 20:31

I am B- and was given a card to carry with my blood group on it from the hospital I gave birth in - this was going back 31 years today 😂

Blyatiful · 03/04/2021 20:34

O+, AZ, no side effects. I’m 50.

DH is A+, felt fluey for two days and had a headache he couldn’t shift. He’s 56.

Blyatiful · 03/04/2021 20:35

BentBastard · 03/04/2021 20:48

samenwitch · 03/04/2021 21:14

Doublechins · 03/04/2021 22:35

Felt physically fine after second but had insomnia for about 5 days which is very unlike me.
I had Pfizer

Parky04 · 03/04/2021 22:47

O negative. Had both jabs (Pfizer) and no side effects whatsoever.

Idontbelieveit12 · 03/04/2021 22:49

A+

Sore arm, shivering and couldn’t get warm, general feeling of being bit under the weather.

mrshoho · 04/04/2021 07:28

RH B Neg. Had the AZ and had flu symptoms for about 36 hours. In bed with high temp and aches. Felt well enough to return to work after 48 hours with just the sore arm lasting a further few days. I'm really not looking forward to the second one.

Inthevirtualwaitingroom · 04/04/2021 07:33

o positive
just a sore arm

i think age is more important? but i am not sure.
