Vaccine passports and mask exemptions

The language around the vaccine passport debate has been really shocking - dehumanising, completely unnuanced and very dangerous indeed. It seems like the majority of posters on MN would support vaccine passports for everyday activities and the posters who admit to not being keen on getting the vaccine are called selfish, a danger to others and told that they ought to live as hermits.

I remember when there were a lot of threads about mask exemptions and the overall consensus was that people who felt unable to wear masks for various reasons should be allowed to go about their business without challenge, despite the fact that they posed an additional risk to the health of the people around them. This is in spite of the fact that an unmasked person posed more of a risk to others in the time before anyone had the protection of a vaccine than an unvaccinated person would pose to a person who had been vaccinated. The view that many held was that a mask exempt person should not be questioned about their reasons for not wearing a mask. And that it would be discriminatory to not allow them into indoor public spaces.

I would like to hear from people who make a distinction between people who are mask exempt and people who are unvaccinated for various reasons and why the two should be treated differently.

My 85 year old parents said no to the vaccine a while ago Ive tried to change their minds and so has DB but its up to them. So what happens here.

We crossed that rubicon a year ago

Rhubarb officially I can drive, I choose not to because I think my health means I'm no longer good at it.

It is clear that the green revolution is coming too and getting a car and driving in London will be expensive even if I choose to start again.

Parking near central london office impossible.

I'm trying not to upset myself because I've had a year to prepare and think it through. But I am still recovering from the shock.

Seems like we have stepped back to the days when we were all institutionalised.

I don't go to the countries that require vaccinations against malaria etc. I didn't chose a job that required vaccination as standard.

Why stop at forcing this vaccination? What about things like TB?

I’ll be protesting too. There’s more people than you think opposing this and the fact that this government are ignoring it is revealing a lot about them, they cannot be allowed to continue.

The psychological abuse we have been put through over the last year has really affected my mental health. And it continues.....

Wtf- they can’t just announce this surely? With no consideration for the public’s wishes? This goes way beyond lockdowns or restrictions so far. So fucking way beyond.
If they can set this up for vaccinations, there is nothing to stop them pushing other medical treatments in future.

I'm another one who thinks there has to be something else going on here.

Nothing adds up. Nothing makes sense. Everything about this has been the biggest overreaction. It's completely illogical, and so many people are eating it up like pudding.

A year ago if someone had posted that ^ I would have silently judged them as a little bit of a loon.

But now the only thing I'm not sure about is WHY. What is the agenda behind this nonsensical behaviour?

As I said in my pp... a high risk vaccinated person can now go to a shoe shop, but a person who has always been low risk and has worked throughout the pandemic can't? The same person who was only locked down to "flatten the curve" and not "kill granny"?

How can a man go from the photo attached to mandatory ID just to get your children's feet measured or go to a gym??

I’ve spent the last couple of months getting abuse on here from people calling for this. I’m furious, they should be ashamed.

The government are citing ‘dodgy’ polls as support but I would honestly say far more are against.

I'm counting on a lot of people getting really quite rowdy over this. It is just totally unacceptable, and I think many will not stand for it.

But, if you had asked me a year ago if I though people would stand for even 20% of what we've been asked to do without major disturbance, I'd have said no. And yet here we are. It's genuinely terrifying.

I do wonder if they gov are deliberately starting their vaccine passport 'negotiation' at a purposely quite high level, so that people can kick off, sure, but then the gov will take things down to the level they always planned in the first place - only covering gigs, cinemas, pubs and restaurants. And people will actually feel grateful that it's not worse! That's how abusive this dynamic is, and how screwed we are, that that's even my first thought.

I am absolutely getting fed up now about long covid and I have it.
I got medically screwed over after my hysterectomy I don't go around telling people I have long hysterectomy, long flu, long shingles or anything else yet these have all left me with life long illnesses including some nasty life limiting stuff and some very rare things.

Presumably people will be walking around naked unless they order clothes online as they wont be able to enter clothing shops without the NHS app.. job centres presumably will ask for it or will people be sanctioned for not injecting the vaccine? Luckily I drive but not sure how people will be able to catch public transport either.. if this is the future of the Uk I may seriously consider moving abroad to a country like sweden which still has some sanity left

Very close to been there done that. Thanks to the comfort eating ive done to deal with the restrictions and the psychological abuse i no longer fit into my 32HH bras. Been fine for a few months as hidden under a winter coat. But not on the humid Wednesday we have just had. #freethenipple. They now hang below the bottom of some of my tops. Well if they will shut close contact services. And id be useless trying to do a bra fitting on Zoom.

I did the boob or bust calculator online and it was actually spot on for me.

Jesus, this is terrifying. I genuinely didn't think they'd do this. This vaccine has taken on a mad moral aspect way beyond it's actual purpose. I want to wait a while before getting it as I'm young, healthy and have already had covid. For this I've been called a selfish anti vaxxer, despite being a huge advocate of vaccines in general and organising clinics as part of my job. Just what is going on here?!

Does anyone remember the media reports coming out of Wuhan, before Covid hit the rest of the world? There were photos of people who had 'dropped dead' on the streets from this new coronavirus. I remember thinking "wow, what a terrible virus!'. Why were there no photos of Europeans dropping dead on the streets? No pictures of Brits just collapsing on their way home from work with Covid? Why were the pictures from China telling a certain story, which didn't translate to be true when people outside of China started getting Covid? What was the point of that propaganda?

Yes I considered starting a thread asking "if anyone would have thought I was crazy this time last year, have you changed your mind". It would be like an amnesty thread, I'm not looking to shout at anyone who has realised what's going on.

But then I thought, I'll get 0 - 2 replies and tonnes of abuse. And I think people welcome the horrible new world.

For the newbies, I am too exhausted and drained to put myself at risk with any more protesting. The only thing I can do is look after myself and my savings.

There has to be a new lot of protestors. Last year's crew are mostly sick of it, feel we got nothing but abuse for it and most people must support the vax passports or we wouldn't have got so many fools being angry at us and telling us vax was the way out. Or - my personal "idiotic" favourite, those telling me "this is the last lockdown".

Even my mum and sister said I was foolish to say they'd extend furlough. My head screams Taylor Swift "don't say I didn't, say I didn't warn you".
