Can you please link where it says the German health authority has linked the cases directly to AZ?

Because as far as I can tell, from everything I have read, they haven't actually been able to prove a link to the vaccine yet. So it is still just speculation.

The one thing we know for sure about covid, is that it does cause blood clots, so I would like to see if they are ruling out the clots being caused in other ways.

AZ surely have rolled out tens of millions of vaccines now, they need to make a statement.

Itsalonghaul · 30/03/2021 17:52

Two men died so it can't be linked to the pill.

www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-03-30/germany-to-recommend-astra-vaccine-use-only-for-people-over-60

See that article reads like entire country.
Add to that Canada/ France and some scandi countries.
Its a mess and feel sorry for az.

I can see from some posts here its causing worry over vaccines in uk.
It not put me off I would be pleased to have any of them.
So many middle ages women have been really poorly with covid.

Says eu meeting and announcing Thursday so no doubt be another big blow up Thursday.

I would be surprised if this latest scare amounted to much, but it may be the case that our AZ rollout has disproportionately gone to lower risk groups for this side effect, so we’ve not seen it as much.

What sort of numbers of under 55s have had AZ by this point? The healthcare worker rollout has been Pfizer, I believe. So I imagine the numbers of female, under 55, getting AZ is significant but perhaps small enough to account for us not seeing this yet?

Baileysforchristmas · 30/03/2021 18:02

@ForeverAintEnough12 have any of your family been vaccinated, if so which vaccine?

Knowingitsallover · 30/03/2021 18:03

Its is worrying im 45 and had az 10 days ago and now concerned , It would be good if they could show the data from here of how many under 55 have had az and if shown as risk
I also know my friend ( female)53 had az approx 14 days ago and another male friend 45 had az about 3 weeks ago , all of us were fine but I am now more worried about clots reading things over last couple of days and as mine was approx 10 days ago still could be a risk?
I wonder if anywhere else has administered many to under 55's that has data too ?
As its important we look into it and makes me wary for dose 2 as well

Knowingitsallover · 30/03/2021 18:04

Know of a another 45 year old male and late 30's women who had az just over a week ago and they were sick for few days after but so far nothing else , so guessing az is rolling out to under 55's now

LimitIsUp · 30/03/2021 18:04

The Guardian article quotes a Canadian Immunologist as saying "the updated recommendations came amid new data from Europe that suggests the risk of blood clots is now potentially as high as one in 100,000"

Potentially is the key word here. Not incontrovertible fact

Dementedswan · 30/03/2021 18:07

I'm 45 and had AZ on 10th March just before all this kicked off. So far I'm fine and should be in the clear 3 weeks post vaccine right?

I did have sore arm and felt like I'd been hit by a bus for a couple of days after.

UserEleventyNine · 30/03/2021 18:11

BBC report. It's a relatively small study, considering the total number of doses given in the UK, and involves both vaccines, but these are the findings.

Covid: No vaccine blood clot cases in Wales, study finds

No cases of blood clots have been found in more than 440,000 people who have been vaccinated against coronavirus in Wales, a study has shown.

Research by Swansea University health data experts looked at vaccinations up to January with 180,000 AstraZeneca doses and 260,000 Pfizer-Biontech. link to full report.

The EU are having so many problems

Mrsorganmorgan · 30/03/2021 18:30

My husband, who although much older than many of you (69), has post stroke epilepsy. He had the AstraZenica vaccine. He felt rough for about 4 hours, took some paracetamol, and was fine, and has been ever since.

LimitIsUp · 30/03/2021 18:33

In 2019 there were 4.66 million in the 50-54 age group.

As at March 21 60% of group 9 (50-54) had received their first vaccine. This was almost exclusively AZ (by March that was the predominant vaccine for first jabs)

So 60% of 4,666,000 is 2,799,600 of 50-54 years who have received their first jab of AZ. Am going to assume that half of those were women, hence it is likely that somewhere in the region of 1,399,800 50-54 year old UK women have had AZ by 21 March, and this figure will be growing as the vaccine programme continues to target that group.

Okay this is an educated guess not the actual hard data - but if there is a significant issue we should be seeing it soon

Dementedswan · 30/03/2021 18:41

Are these blood clot events being seen after the first dose or second?

Knowingitsallover · 30/03/2021 18:42

@Dementedswan don't know ? Thats a good question

Knowingitsallover · 30/03/2021 18:43

What other countries are also using Az ? Would be interesting to see their data in the below 55 age group as well

EasterIssland · 30/03/2021 18:46

Id say fist as they’re doing second doses 12w.

Im 36 and had it. I was volunteering on my gp when cv people (below 50) were attending ans they got the vaccines. Not every health worker has had pfizer. Many have had az. Same as cv people.

Just read an article my SIL in Italy posted on SM, AstraZeneca re-named Vaxzevria. Basic gist if the article was suggesting it was at request of AZ in hope of losing negative connotations. I went away from the iPad and come back and have now lost the page. So didn't finish reading it. Has anyone else seen it?

Dementedswan · 30/03/2021 18:55

@Knowingitsallover that would be interesting to find out, and also what/if any contraceptive pill these women were on. I believe there have been cases in men... were they on hormone treatment?

Dementedswan · 30/03/2021 18:56

@EasterIssland I'm group 6 under 50 and have had AZ. I know quite a few people who have.

Knowingitsallover · 30/03/2021 19:00

@EasterIssland and have spain had any issues do you know ?

EasterIssland · 30/03/2021 19:03
@EasterIssland and have spain had any issues do you know ?
There was a case of a woman dying. But it was later rolled out

AZ has been rubbished around the world right from the beginning. I was listening to an interview on radio 4 where a link was made to the fact that it is also the only non profit vaccine, so big pharma and the £££ missing out. AZ have said they will never do another non profit vaccine again
