Of course, we have only allowed India to become such a large pharmaceutical producer ...

I hope something has been lost in translation there, and what she really meant was that they have allowed the EU to become too dependent on India.

I can't keep up with the EU/AZ saga. Do they want it or don't they?

After fiasco of the EU's vaccine procurement, she still thinks 'more Europe' is the answer?

jasjas1973 · 24/04/2021 13:02
Right wing Spectator puts the worst possible slant on what Merkel actually said, which is Angela Merkel said, “The truth is, we haven’t treated our pharmaceutical industry so well for many years…I am glad that we still have pharmaceutical production in Belgium, Holland, Germany.” Highlighting the issue of vaccine shortage, she said, “We now have a situation with India where, in connection with the emergency situation of the pandemic, we are worried whether the pharmaceutical products will still come to us.”
jasjas1973 · 24/04/2021 13:04

This whole thread plus the 2 before it, has been about bashing the EU for not sending every single to vaccine to the UK, despite the EU having an awful covid infection rate.
With poster after poster demanding we vaccinate our young, whilst the elderly in europe die.

Hypocrisy indeed.

Baileysforchristmas · 24/04/2021 13:12

Is this not not true?

Merkel added: "From the European side, in the expectation that this should then also be complied with.

We expect it to honour its promises.
"And if it can't, we will have to rethink.”

Baileysforchristmas · 24/04/2021 13:14

I don’t think India will be able to deliver to the EU or the UK, I also think the UK should hand back the 5 million vaccines we’ve already had from India

TheHoneyBadger · 24/04/2021 13:19

“ Steerpike wonders how Merkel can be so tone deaf as to publicly worry whether pharmaceutical products 'will still come to us' when bodies are piling up at Delhi crematoriums.”

She also fully backs vdl which is shocking

BBC reported yesterday that Matt Hancock said the govt is talking to India about what help we could offer.

Whats wrong with that? Europe and the UK will need to stop relying on cheap labour and facilities making their medicines, just as the UK has started to do with PPE.

Anyone would think Merkel is threatening sanctions against India.

Why? The EU has had over 662k CV deaths, they have their share of bodies piling up & are now in the midst of a 3rd wave ....so of course they have concerns over vaccine supplies.

The UK has offered India therapeutics only, no vaccines... what a surprise.

Baileysforchristmas · 24/04/2021 14:37

@jasjas1973 you’re so quick to defend the EU, I think you will always see them as perfect and the UK as wicked 😊

@Baileysforchristmas I ve criticised the Eu plenty of times & praised the UK for its vaccine procurement and roll out.... as well you know :)

BUT you and others are attempting to hold the EU to higher standards than other countries (inc UK) is unfair, basically you don't like being called out for it.

Baileysforchristmas · 24/04/2021 15:16

We’ll see how reasonable the EU are going to be dealing with India.

Succintly: bollocks.
jasjas1973 · 24/04/2021 17:26

A truly amazing argument.... well done you.

jasjas1973 · 24/04/2021 17:32

EU has already said they will help India (as have other countries inc the UK)

Though the meeting between Jaishankar and Vestager largely focused on preparations for the virtual India-EU Summit next month, the two leaders also discussed India’s Covid-19 response. “Appreciated the support offered by EU on Covid-19 challenges currently faced by India. Confident that EU will help strengthen our capabilities at this critical juncture,” Jaishankar tweeted after the meeting 23rd April 2021.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/04/2021 18:27

I feel like if you say anything that isn't 100% lavishing praise on the EU people pounce instantly on here.

Doesn't feel like you're allowed to discuss the EU without being policed and jumped on.

I think you might find its exactly the opposite... i get jumped upon the moment i try to put another POV.

the whole point of these threads isn't to be even handed and dole out criticism to either side but to pick holes in the EU at every opportunity.

imho both sides have lots to learn after this pandemic, the UK on its lazy inept response to CV last year and the EU in tying to centralise everything, instead of focusing on the common threat... CV.

Both sides have caused unnecessary deaths and suffering.

but when it comes to the UK vaccinating young people whilst some vulnerable folk go without in europe... thats just wrong.... just as it is for any country, on top of CV, not to send vaccine to India.

TheHoneyBadger · 24/04/2021 18:53

All this sides crap. I don't see it as sides.

Purely a figure of speech... see, can't do or say anything without being jumped upon lol!

@jasjas1973 you have consistently proved that trying to debate with you is a waste of time and effort. You’re not interested in facts or debate. You’re interested in creating strawmen to support your propaganda points.

This is why people are now consistently disengaging from you on these threads.

...again... stunning argument, you are excelling yourself today.

You have presented zero argument or debate, just insults.

I 've presented a critic of both the UK and EU, rather than agree/disagree you and 'honey just attempt to insult & bully.

MRex · 24/04/2021 19:39

Oh dear, best that we end the thread

MRex · 24/04/2021 19:39

MRex · 24/04/2021 19:40

Peace, love and harmony between all posters, UK and EU.
