Vaccines will definitely reduce hospital admissions and deaths. But when do you think we will reach a point where we never go back to a lockdown?

@BogDiscuits I think you need to take that up with the Prime Minister who is, as far as I can see, the only person that has accused home workers of chillaxxing. We normal people know how hard everyone has worked, juggling work and home schooling with no respite and nowhere to actually 'chillax'.

Yes!!! Sir Desmond Swayne said he had hundreds of letters from eminent scientists and academics who completely disagreed with what has been happening but asked him to keep their names quiet. We all know why.

@FoxyTheFox

The vulnerable will have to stay inside the rest of us to live

Oh yeah because fuck the disabled, the elderly, and the clincally vulnerable. How dare they expect to be an integral part of the society in which they live Hmm

You do know vulnerable people work, have children, have lives...? Locking them away is not the solution.

If the vaccines don’t work they will need to Shield anyway- how much longer can we justify shielding those that are v low risk?
Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 28/03/2021 20:48

Elites and governing classes love lockdowns so they will definitely continue.

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not Hmm

Elites and governing classes love MONEY

Lockdown = shit economy

Shit economy = no money

No money = very unhappy elites and governing classes

Pixxie7 · 28/03/2021 20:49

I don’t think that there is any guarantee until a large majority of the world is vaccinated.

Quaagars · 28/03/2021 21:07

In a couple of years when there's a far worse virus, we'll be used to the lockdowns, so they'll gradually increase in severity and length

Well, aren't you a little ray of sunshine Grin

Gosh the doom mongers on here. shock

30 MILLION HAVE NOW BEEN VACCINATED

Exactly, which is why I'm hoping and think we're in a much better position than last time we came out of lockdown.
It's hopefully different this time
Will still be being sensible and sticking to the rules and social distancing and whatnot though..

BogDiscuits · 28/03/2021 21:14

Thank you divided and I hear you Pregnant, thank you for all your work and hope you’re feeling better now. Flowers

FoxyTheFox · 28/03/2021 21:17

If the vaccines don’t work

The vaccines are working.

I think the people who want lockdown the most are those who seem to be feeding off the negativity and drama of ringing their little bell while wailing "dooooooom! Doom! Doooooom!" and predicting we'll be in lockdown forever. Everyone I know in RL, and most people on MN, are more or less of the opinion that we'll see some restrictions for the next 6-12 months but that we're on the downward side of things now and full normality will resume by some point next year at the latest.

What is it they call the doom-mongers? Dementors? It's a good name for them.

Then give them a choice of what they want to do. But you know, fuck the majority of society, punish them all and lock them all up for a virus that by and large doesn't kill them Hmm.
LeaveMyDamnJam · 28/03/2021 21:27

The number of epidemiologists on MN is remarkable.

midgeswithnofingernails · 28/03/2021 21:28

You are not being punished. You are being treated like an intelligent and caring adult.

You do not want to live in a society where we don't help each other , where we close the nhs because it's only the ill who need it and it costs too much , where we give people the option to die a horrible unsupported death or live in solitary confinement for ever

Look at Brazil , no lockdown and doing so well ... isn't it?

I think we can't ever rule out further lockdowns.

Oh, please, Brazil is vastly different from here. It's a total non sequitur. As yes, keeping people socially isolated from each other, destroying entire industries and millions of livelihoods over a virus that 95+% survive is punishment. Ridiculous.
ivykaty44 · 28/03/2021 21:35

If people entering UK are tested, if people in the uk are mostly vaccinated - why will we be locking down again

Europe will catch up with vaccination, surely by the autumn

midgeswithnofingernails · 28/03/2021 21:41

You think the economy would survive and no jobs would be lost if we just let the virus run?

No nhs any more that's a few million jobs gone

London was seeing decline in the month before as offices went wfh without any official lockdown

The french were about to cancel every lorry snd train coming from France with food . I doubt the rest of Europe would have been behind

Yeah hang in to your dreams
Or grow up accept that sometimes life just sucks and we just need to work out how to get out of the mess

Nameysamey · 28/03/2021 21:47

@kellehi @chaosrabbitland But why? That’s what I don’t understand? Why would they want to keep us all locked up? The only thoughts are then going into so called conspiracy theories

Nameysamey · 28/03/2021 21:52

@dividedwefall But how does Bill gates know that?

ClarkeGriffin · 28/03/2021 22:01

Are we immune from covid though if we've had it and/or had a vaccine?

There's people been saying they know people who have died from covid after having the vaccines. There's people who have caught covid more than once.

kellehi · 28/03/2021 22:03
**@kellehi* @chaosrabbitland* But why? That’s what I don’t understand? Why would they want to keep us all locked up? The only thoughts are then going into so called conspiracy theories
Do you mean conspiracy theories that were flying around last year that were saying that the government would use propaganda in order to convince the population to be vaccinated, including have them applying an element of coercive control by making it seem like the unvaccinated are second class citizens, and having all this being tracked/policed with a vaccine passport to make sure the unvaccinated would have to comply in order to go about their lives'?

What a world we live in...

diwrnachoflleyn · 28/03/2021 22:03

Yeah hang in to your dreams

They're not dreams. I'm carrying on living my life how I see fit and don't really give a shit about people trying to shame me or insult me for doing so. So crack on.

Nameysamey · 28/03/2021 22:08

@kellehi Exactly that..! But again, why? No one can give me a direct answer to that and if it’s true, why aren’t more people worried

CrunchyCarrot · 28/03/2021 22:14

@kellehi

But of course. You only have to see the attitudes of people on here... Last few months everyone was saying 'we just need to be patient, it'll only be a short while until we have vaccines and then we can get back to normal'... And now the attitude is shifting towards mandatory vaccines for all including children, and regular boosters, perhaps as frequent as every six months, policed by facial recognition vaccine passports to go about your daily lives. All cheered on by the 'whatever it takes' brigade...

The government has just extended its Covid powers for another six months. That will take us up to September, and I am sure that, soon after, the medical advisers who regularly stand beside the Prime Minister will warn us of an imminent flu epidemic - leading to a further six-month extension of these powers (as a precaution, of course).

After that, I suspect more Covid-19 variants will be discovered, requiring another six months. Soon enough we will have reached the winter of 2022 – and so it will continue.

I wonder how much longer it will take for those who support the restrictions to change their tune?

Eight months ago I'd have thought this was an extreme view, but now I think you've nailed it, and that most of what you've said is likely to come to pass. Sadly.
Lucaslucas1612 · 28/03/2021 22:16

I don't understand why there would be further lockdowns. We now have the vaccination, we can't get to the point of no deaths, we need to accept there will be deaths. We can't just lockdown constantly to prevent any deaths. We don't lockdown every year for the flu, how many die from that annually? Why would we lockdown for covid again or for another variant of it. It doesn't make sense to me.

Nameysamey · 28/03/2021 22:21

I don’t understand how people know there will be another, worse virus to come along?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/03/2021 22:21
