Vaccines will definitely reduce hospital admissions and deaths. But when do you think we will reach a point where we never go back to a lockdown?

Pretty sure it was you who made this very specific claim and have been unable to provide evidence for it, despite repeated requests.

Heathermary1995 · 01/04/2021 20:22

Several links have been put up showing potentially more lockdowns.. if you think vaccine passports and no international travel in the same way as ever before is going back to 2019 times more fool you @IcedPurple

The government say one thing on a Monday and switch on a Tuesday, you keep telling yourself there will no more lockdowns if it helps you sleep at night- I'll believe it when I see it

You made a very specific claim. I asked you to provide evidence more than once, and you have been unable to do so. No point in continuing this discussion with you.

Giving an opinion on whether there will be future lockdowns isnt scaremongering

Gladimnotamillenial · 01/04/2021 20:42

@Heathermary1995 Is that true? It’s not ending for 10 years and never going back to before? There’s actually not much point in carrying on really is there

It's an opinion, not a fact. No one has the power of being able to predict the future so no one can possibly say.

It wont go back to as it was before for many sectors like travel and as Boris and his scientific sidekicks have said, covid will be around for years possibly decades

"Covid will NOT be eradicated, Vallance and Chris Whitty say 'don't expect it to disappear'
COVID will not disappear from Britons' lives completely as the chances of fully eradicating the virus are "close to zero" according to the Government's chief medical advisors.Sir Patrick Vallance and Professor Chris Whitty were united in the belief that people will be forced to live with coronavirus for a considerable while longer. Britain's top scientists told the Downing Street Covid briefing on Tuesday that the likelihood of the virus being eliminated completely was "next to zero"

www.express.co.uk/news/politics/1413771/covid-news-patrick-vallance-chris-whitty-will-not-disappear-cases-deaths-latest-vn

Of course we are all guessing whether the government will implement more lockdowns but even with the vaccine which will need to be given every few months with boosters, I suspect we will have lockdowns later in the year.. the government and the so called "experts " change what they say every day. We all remember last year they told us masks were no use and now children are expected to wear them in school all day

Heathermary1995 · 01/04/2021 20:57

I think lockdowns should never have started in the first place , the number of deaths lost to them will probably end up outweighing those that "died of covid" but society seems to have lost the plot sadly

Well, when the hospitals were bursting due to covid patients, ambulances were queuing outside, oxygen was running out. This is when you need lockdowns.

Do you need lockdowns when there are under 4000 in hospital and falling? Yes, because only 1 in 5 self isolate properly when testing positive. If people isolated properly we wouldn’t need such draconian measures for such prolonged periods. Of course the govt is to blame for some of this - creating a society of such inequality and poverty meaning large swathes cannot afford to self isolate, but I don’t think that equates to 4/5 not self isolating. A large proportion of those are arrogant, hypocritical cunts.

You felt a huge sense of self-satisfaction and smug when you hit 'post', didn't you?

Not particularly.

I’d prefer to live in a country where people took responsibility for their own actions, especially when they have the option to, but alas I do not, and here we are, being treated like the children that we are.

Heathermary1995 · 01/04/2021 21:39

@Doomsdayiscoming perhaps instead of having what looks to be a psychotic fit of rage self combusting in what appears to be a pool of drool infront of your computer you can ask why all the Florence nightingale hospitals bar one have remained empty or have now been knocked down despite the tales of the " NHS being overwhelmed" that we here every year

The NHS operates at 95% capacity most years, we always here that it is close to being overrun i

From 2017

From 2019 ^^

Going back a bit further patients were left drinking out of vases in corridors waiting hours to be seen but dont let the fact the NHS has been unfit for purpose for years get in the way of a good rant screaming about the NHS again

Heathermary1995 · 01/04/2021 21:40

Maybe move to this mythical country full of obedient automatons if being here fills you with such rage. But then, who would you get to feel superior to?

PrincessNutNuts · 01/04/2021 21:45

@Druidlookingidiot

From this afternoon’s Telegraph: “Lockdowns are unlikely to be needed again as Britain learns to treat coronavirus like flu, Prof Chris Whitty has said.

The chief medical officer said that up to 25,000 people die in a bad flu year without anyone noticing and that accepting some Covid deaths would be the price of keeping schools and business open and allowing people to live a "whole life".”

That's terribly selective and shockingly inaccurate reporting from the Telegraph.

The Sun reported him more honestly:

I’m learning Korean and hope to start taking the TOPIK exams in the Autumn.

Has no one considered the idea that a health service every year which is close to being overrun that needs people to lock away in order to protect it taking vaccines they don't actually need for their own health may be part of the problem Hmm

IcedPurple · 01/04/2021 21:47

I’m learning Korean and hope to start taking the TOPIK exams in the Autumn.

That's great -since last year I've often felt many on MN would be very much at home in North Korea.

The nightingales weren't used because they are not meant to be.

Very expensive PR bullshit. Not hospitals.

Gladimnotamillenial · 01/04/2021 22:26

I just don’t understand, of course it won’t go to zero cases, but that’s not the aim surely 🤷🏻‍♀️ We’re having the vaccines, they’re working, why would it go on for decades and why would we keep redoing to lock down?

LemonSherbetFancies · 01/04/2021 22:36

Yes, I meant more in the way of the deaths and infections being so low, we can get back to how we were before this all happened. There is no reason to think we will go back into lockdown what with all the vaccination progress and more vaccines are being developed all the time to help evade variants.
I am confident we are at the end of restrictions and high numbers of deaths and infections. Don't see how that is living in cloud cuckoo land.
