@BonnieDundee I hear you.
I posted this elsewhere.

I find the whole ad campaign and the way they behaved (especially in the run up to Christmas) psychologically abusive.
This country does not have a decent enough infrastructure to cope with a lockdown (see eon security hack where ppl were left without electric) lack of wifi and internet for children for home learning because some cant afford it.
They lock us down and instead of acknowledging the sacrifices we make they shit on us or add to the mental load. The bloody census could have been postponed till next year. THEY are happy to carry on like there isnt a pandemic with their magic non growing hair and only giving us a matter of days to fill a census in as if there isnt a lockdown and like its normal times Filled ours in tonight. But what about ppl who might need help filling it in. How are they going to find that help in a a matter of days and b. in a lockdown.
They want it all ways and im fucking fed up with the psychological abuse and the gaslighting.
A long time ago i was in a emotionally and financially abusive relationship and i find this worse. I walked away from him I didnt live with him fortunately. I cant walk away from this. Its everywhere. On posters on the TV in newspapers.
I remember playing that game as a child where if you avoided the cracks in the pavement bad luck/illness wouldnt befall you. Never in my wildest dreams did i think i would be forced to play it in my town centre as an adult!! To cope with the fact that i feel abused i turned to food. Friends have turned to wine to cope. 48% of people have gained weight during lockdown due to using food and drink as a crutch. Because everything else was taken away. I was badly psychologically affected by their behaviour in the run up to Christmas. Then they dare to moan about weight when they have shut gyms. I usually have my hair cut and coloured at a hairdresser which is a local stand alone family business. Im sorry but looking and feeling like a scruff bag does not induce motivation. I KNOW how to be healthy I successfully lost ten stone in the early 2000s. But i cant bring myself to care that much anymore.

Very short clip
Succinctly says there's a tiny window because - gasp - people are behaving normally!

Ooh I know that song...it's on the tip of my tongue....

Good for them.

I agree with this - I really resented doing the census this year - unpaid work and time spent that would have been much more usefully occupied doing something else. I bet it was mainly women doing it - adding to our mental load which has already been huge this year.

Also, the data isn't going to be comparable to other years. There was a question on normal place of work, I was unsure whether to put the normal office location or WFH (which has been happening all this year).

The gaslighting from the government is extreme. They clearly don't care about normal people at all.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 03/04/2021 13:27

YY to the previous posters about the inability to get away from the propaganda surrounding this whole thing - every single proposed plan, be it domestic or work related or health related has to be carefully planned in the context of Covid. And it's not just the logistics, it's the having to walk on eggshells and constantly qualifying every thought and conversation because everyone is a bit traumatised - or very traumatised - and their reactions may be slightly more extreme than normal.

The comparison with being in an abusive relationship is very resonant with me, and I don't think it's hyperbole to wonder how many people have a form of CPTSD now - it's partly characterised by long periods of feeling as though you have little or no agency over your own life, which is what the last year has been, with the control coming from an authority which can implement laws and punishments for those who resist, either intentionally or misguidedly. This can actually re-wire your brain FGS.

After a long period of relative freedom in this country (and some others) encouraging people to utterly turn their lives on their heads for the greater good has been done by such ham-fisted subterfuge, that I have no faith in TPTB. And I have experienced institutional gas-lighting by SS and HCPs years ago, and have worked really hard not to let that colour my behaviour towards them overall. Trusting the government in any way, ever again looks really unlikely to me right now.

Ah yes that bastarding fucking census bullshit. Who the fuck really needed that doing this year?? Lost over an hour filling it out. So many intrusive questions too.

BonnieDundee · 03/04/2021 15:14

I notice they have put it off for a year in Scotland. No idea why we couldn't do that here Confused

MercyBooth · 03/04/2021 16:11

@BonnieDundee Like minds. They should have put it off till next year instead of adding it to the mental load but no. We filled it out and sent it off on time yet we got a letter AND a visit on Thursday saying they havent received it threatening a fine. So i rang the number Recorded message telling me to ignore if id sent it off. Yeah Easy to do that when you are threatening a £1000 fine Hmm Seems they get to carry on as if everything is normal and its only us plebs who get told to suck it up because we are living in unprecedented times.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 03/04/2021 16:12

Oh my word - I've just checked out that Twitter link about the Well Health safety bobbins.

It's a private sector third party company that businesses can pay to get a rating to make people feel self.

Disaster capitalism in bold action right there.

Funnily enough recently I saw a UK company related to the environment called B-Corp being touted so that businesses can prove their green credentials being promoted on Sky News recently. A bit of a dig reveals that accountability and oversight may be a tad sketchy and unverifiable.

Feel safe I meant in first post. Feeling self is obviously another whole can of worms Grin

Blimey the census took about 10 minutes (though to be fair that was about 9 minutes too long!). It was hardly a massive inconvenience. I did make DH do his bit though.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 03/04/2021 19:02

That looks interesting @MercyBooth - does anyone have a share token?

I notice from what I can see it says less than a year - but I bet it will have a caveat that allows extension in certain circumstances.

I bet Boris's speech writers have steam coming off their laptops trying to keep up with all the subtleties required to sell this without making it seem like authoritarian creep. And it's interesting it's gone a fraction quieter in the last couple of days now that they have completed their consultation. I suspect a very gentle strategic drip or two will occur between now and Monday.

Oh lordy

I got one of those letters too

I was hoping if it had gone AWOL, they would just call me!

Why did they visit?

MercyBooth · 03/04/2021 21:01

Was about 11am ish Heard a knock on the flat door and DH went to ask who it was. I heard him reply, "its been sent in the post" I heard him mutter "cunts" on his way to the bathroom. I then asked him who had been at the door and he said "that bloody census" And then he showed me the accompanying letter. I do actually have photos of the form being filled in on my phone. I was Hmm at the way some of it was set out so took a photo. But unfortunately didnt take a photo of myself posting it. The Gov, are full of threats and moaning about people not self isolating yet it hasnt entered their teeny tiny brains that Royal Mail workers might be doing just that.

MercyBooth · 03/04/2021 21:05

I read an article that fines are almost unheard of because the only people who get them are those who refuse to fill it in - you would always be given chance to complete before you were fined, even if you get to the court stage - they give a last chance.

Apparently some people refused last time due to a defence contractor getting the contract.

So the upshot of my ramble is - I don't think you need to fear the fine. They would have to be able to prove you hadn't completed it, which of course they can't if you did a paper form.

I didn't take pics

Oh well, hopefully they can't instantly fine me.

Interesting so many are saying it’s been the worst gaslighting and like being in abusive relationship ... “ One regular Sage attendee said: “The British people have been subjected to an unevaluated psychological experiment without being told that is what’s happening.“

Football cup finals, the World Snooker Championship, a comedy club and a cinema will be used to test vaccine passports over the next few weeks, as the government unveils its route out of lockdown.

The pilot venues will be unveiled on Monday by the prime minister, Boris Johnson, with the NHS drawing up a system that will allow people to use an app or a paper certificate to gain access to major events and reduce social distancing measures.
