Looks like Europe may have got their way

@CallMeCleo

Sheer manipulation.

There are so many people now starting to think maybe they should not have it after all, so they need to ramp up the fear that you might not get a chance, that it's running out, in short supply, and this makes people want it more.

Don't fall for it.

We don't need a vaccine for a flu that 99.9% of people won't die from, anyway.

It's not flu Confused

@Figrollface

Great news for the EU, they are correct to ensue they also get fair access to supply after all the money they invested.
But they don't seem to want it in many EU countries! AZ not being given in several countries, and very low uptake in countries like France.
itsgettingwierd · 17/03/2021 17:26

I may be being thick here but the EU suspended AZ, they have stocks because they suspended.

But they are blocking exports until they get their AZ vaccines which afaik was all sorted?

Chicchicchicchiclana · 17/03/2021 17:27

@Pan2

This is sod all to do with the EU.
What is it to do with?
Jaxhog · 17/03/2021 17:28

Oh great. I'm due my second jab mid April, and I'm not allowed to book it yet.

IloveJKRowling · 17/03/2021 17:28

I’m angry and frightened. Schools are not COVID-safe and I was looking forward to being vaccinated and feeling a little less anxious about being at work.

So we're going to have a 4th wave of unvaccinated teachers and parents of school aged kids mainly in the 40-50 bracket.

Lovely.

Who's going to look after our kids when DH and I get it?

GrumpyHoonMain · 17/03/2021 17:28

I think the EU will face sanctions as a bloc if it does this.

Isn't politics great! Talk about dogs in the manger.
covetingthepreciousthings · 17/03/2021 17:30

Is this going to affect second doses?

My second dose appointment was cancelled today, but it automatically seemed to reschedule it for two weeks after taking me to just shy of 12 weeks, hoping that's going to go ahead, otherwise what happens in that instance? Leave it? Or start again with a different vaccine or have it when it's available again?

Lurkingforawhile · 17/03/2021 17:30

I was thinking this would be addressed in the presser but Hancock has basically just denied it. Very strange. Lumpy rollout my arse - it’s been smooth and quick so far

LoudestCat14 · 17/03/2021 17:31

@somethingischasingme

My second dose appt has just been cancelled.
Yikes. Did they say why? Are you in the vulnerable category?
Lurkingforawhile · 17/03/2021 17:31

@covetingthepreciousthings do you know why it was cancelled? And which one did you have?

BellsaRinging · 17/03/2021 17:32

Fuck. I was just starting to believe I would be getting mine in April/May as per the calculator. Was thinking positive thoughts and hoping for a break in May half term, and return to working in the office/some human contact. This is unremitingly fucking depressing now. And we're going to start hearing about vaccine inequality any day now, both in terms of age and location in the country.

From whom ?
user1471600850 · 17/03/2021 17:33

why don't you wait until you know the actual facts before panicing

EerieSilence · 17/03/2021 17:34

So one thread is all fury, because some EU states temporarily stopped A-Z vaccination, due to potential side effects. Clue fury because the EU is looking down on the UK, revenge for Brexit etc.
Then the EU says, sure, we need enough vaccines, we'll make sure we have enough - clue fury because the mean EU wants vaccines.
Seriously!

Most people that age don't suffer that badly so the odds are you'll still be able to look after them.
cathyandclare · 17/03/2021 17:34

According to most reports this isn't related to the EU. It's maybe more to do with the demands of giving second doses as well as first ones, together with supply issues. It's a big ask to double rates. Moderna was meant to be coming 'in the Spring', so hopefully supply will improve.

Avondklok · 17/03/2021 17:34

@AgeLikeWine

This is because the EU is banning exports of vaccines which they are not using, which their citizens do not want and in which their politicians have destroyed public confidence.
No this is absolutely NOT what is happening.
Bluntness100 · 17/03/2021 17:35

People hAve to remember we are not in lock down to eliminate Covid. It’s to release the pressure on the nhs. People under fifty with no underlying health conditions are hugely unlikely to get seriously ill.

So with your over fifties and cev vaccinated you release the pressure on the nhs and hugely reduce the death rates, which allows society to open up.

In addition. It’s a four week delay on the over fifties only. People need to calm down and not panic.

Jaxhog · 17/03/2021 17:36

So to clarify, the EU wants to suspend the supply of legitimately ordered (and paid for) vaccines to the UK, because we won't divert our supplies to them. Even though they have stockpiled supplies that people in the EU don't want.
Confused Confused Shock

covetingthepreciousthings · 17/03/2021 17:36
@covetingthepreciousthings do you know why it was cancelled? And which one did you have?
Nope just got an automatic email saying it had been cancelled and then a second email saying it has been rescheduled to mid April instead, presumably supply issues. Due to have Pfizer.

Avondklok · 17/03/2021 17:36

The EU has NOT banned AZ and is not sitting on huge stockpiles which we keep from U.K. out of spite. This rhetoric is really pissing me off.

duffeldaisy · 17/03/2021 17:37

I did wonder about this, how they were going to manage to follow-up all the first doses in time and get to new groups with the first at the same time.

I know it's probably selfish but this has really hit me. I was looking at the over 50s starting today and was starting to relax for the first time in a year because it meant the over 40s would be on the horizon soon and we could have jabs at last. I've been worried sick with the kids in school and going back before Easter. Cases in England are flatlining, which might mean they'll start rising thanks to schools and there's going to be a whole extra month at least to go.

It's nothing to do with the EU, by the way, it's to do with them rolling out so many in the first round. They have to catch up or they'll miss the 12 week deadline they set.
I keep reading angry comments about the EU, but they've only threatened to limit supply. And that'll be on top of all this as well.

I know how lucky we are to have had more than 1/3 of the population vaccinated so far here, compared to many other countries, but in our household, apart from school, we've been sticking to the rules and not gone anywhere or seen anyone in over a year now, and this ongoing anxiety is horrible.

Sansaplans · 17/03/2021 17:37

I read it saying that first doses would be reduced, presumably as the second jabs start to become due? Might be wrong, another cynical part is saying it is perhaps to make people nervous since the scaremongering about the unfounded clots into think oh better have it before they run out. Either way, I'm sure it'll become clear soon. In the meantime, over 25 million doses have been administered, that's fantastic.
