Looks like Europe may have got their way

OP posts:
ancientgran · 17/03/2021 17:37

Matt Hancock just said it is normal, supply always lumpy and a standard letter.

Re the EU he said their statement says contracted deliveries would go ahead and ours contracted so not an issue.

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2021 17:37

@IloveJKRowling

I’m angry and frightened. Schools are not COVID-safe and I was looking forward to being vaccinated and feeling a little less anxious about being at work.

So we're going to have a 4th wave of unvaccinated teachers and parents of school aged kids mainly in the 40-50 bracket.

Lovely.

Who's going to look after our kids when DH and I get it?

Why do you think you’d need someone to look after the kids? The odds of that are very very low. In addition why do you even think you’d get it? So far we are not seeing the spike with schools open, obvs time will tell but huge increase in testing and it’s not happening.
Avondklok · 17/03/2021 17:38

The strategy of U.K. has been to do as many jabs as possible. Now they NEED to do 2nd doses this was inevitable as a consequence.

GoldenOmber · 17/03/2021 17:38

@EerieSilence

So one thread is all fury, because some EU states temporarily stopped A-Z vaccination, due to potential side effects. Clue fury because the EU is looking down on the UK, revenge for Brexit etc. Then the EU says, sure, we need enough vaccines, we'll make sure we have enough - clue fury because the mean EU wants vaccines. Seriously!
It’s not quite ‘fury because the mean EU wants vaccines’, is it?

‘EU has suggested using emergency measures to block export of vaccines destined for elsewhere including UK, while sitting on a bunch of AZ vaccines it’s not using, followed by UK announcement that vaccines are going to seriously reduce, leads to people drawing quite annoyed conclusions’ is more like it. (And I don’t know, maybe these things are totally unconnected, but the EU are not exactly playing a blinder on the vaccine rollout front right now.)

Wellbythebloodyhell · 17/03/2021 17:38

@Beebityboo

Is this going to delay lockdown ending?
I truly hope not!
MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2021 17:38

Ok good. Is that the briefing? Keep missing them these days.

Orangeblossom1975 · 17/03/2021 17:39

I don't really understand the panic- the over 50s and group 6 should still be vaccinated relatively soon which is the main thing. The risk to others is low.

The same people who would have looked after them if you had had COVID already? Why do you think there is a higher risk now? Millions have already been vaccinated, so the risk of you catching it are getting lower all the time.
Bluntness100 · 17/03/2021 17:39

Gosh the panic and misinformation on here.

I’d have thought if folks were concerned they’d at least watch Hancock. And of course rhe op is also wrong.

HSHorror · 17/03/2021 17:39

This is the problem everything was always going to be opened up before the 40s mostly had it.
It is t acceptable though for 20/30 to get it months before 40yo though.
And actually it may well have gone down to 45 countrywide if hadnt dont some young ones elsewhere.

I bet it's international pressure about vaxxinating non vulnerable when other countries are still on cev etc.

LoudestCat14 · 17/03/2021 17:39

I feel properly gutted now. Not just because I won't be getting the vaccine any time soon (I'm 48) but also because I'm worried there could be a knock-on effect of us coming out of lockdown.

Florabella · 17/03/2021 17:40

I feel absolutely gutted. I turn 50 in 3 months, can't believe I am that much safer than someone to turned 50 today. . Honestly thought I would be getting it in April.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/03/2021 17:40

Some people really thrive on being dramatic.

If the EU had put its money into the game sooner, and taken the risks the UK did, then they could legitimately claim unfairness. But they didn't, so they can't. They should go and read their own contracts, which say 'best endeavours', not 'guaranteed supplies'.
poppycat10 · 17/03/2021 17:40

Well this is all very frustrating if you are 49!

ancientgran · 17/03/2021 17:40

Yes today's briefing with JVT and a woman who I can't remember.

Very positive about results of vaccinations, reduction in serious cases and transmission.

Once over 50s done they want a catch up to try and get anyone who has been missed before the start on under 50s but he stressed the targets they have set will be met.

I feel the same ☹️
IloveJKRowling · 17/03/2021 17:41

Most people that age don't suffer that badly so the odds are you'll still be able to look after them.

Well I know 3 people of that age with long covid who are still really struggling. Do you know what it's like for kids to have to become carers?

I wouldn't mind so much if schools were safer and they were doing everything they could to reduce transmission, but they're not.

LoudestCat14 · 17/03/2021 17:42

It's not panic, it's people reacting to yet another setback after a year of bloody setbacks. For example, my partner is a teacher and has 30 kids in his class. He's been vaccinated due to an underlying condition but I'm still vulnerable. I'm not panicking, just pissed off.

LoudestCat14 · 17/03/2021 17:43

If you haven't got anything more constructive to add, bugger off.
megletsecond · 17/03/2021 17:44

I'm totally gutted by this. I was hanging on thinking school cases should be low-ish until Easter. Then I'd get my jab around Easter (46).
I can't go until the summer term with the risk dangling over me. DD is hard to control when she had a meltdown so I can't get ill.

Me too. I've just started watching it from the beginning as I want to see what UvdL actually said.

Currently news bods still raising eyebrows at the AZ pauses across Europe and wider.

sipsmith1 · 17/03/2021 17:44

Everyone is being quite dramatic. He’s said in the press conference that they are still on track for everyone else to have theirs by the end of July.

Originally they wanted to vaccinate groups 1-9 by mid May. They are on track to do it a month early. Everyone else will be getting their vaccines as per the original timetable.

Avondklok · 17/03/2021 17:44

I'm over 50 and EU and have to wait my turn. Feel glad U.K. will have vaccinated the main groups - hopefully with 2 doses - and stop getting your knickers in a twist!

Oohshortbreadfinger · 17/03/2021 17:45

This is hard to hear and has made me a bit tearful. Am back at work next week, face to face role, in an inner city area with very low vaccine take up.
