Looks like Europe may have got their way

Agree, it was a careless tweet

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2021 17:13

I just heard him say that too and was like 'whaaaat???' No jabs for under 50s unless special circumstances? WHY?

They could only continue to give 1st doses if the supply increased significantly because they have to start on 2nd doses thats all the supply being used on that.

My friends have all just booked in as they are over 50 and quite frankly have been insufferable about it.

This does not help my mood and how they have been incredibly thoughtless about how those just a couple of years younger and in jobs which are high risk, won't be getting it any time soon.

I had thought sometime in April was realistic for me. Not a cat in hell's chance now.

RedRiverShore · 17/03/2021 17:14

It's to make sure all over 50s have ample opportunity for jab, I'm 63 and getting mine on Monday, if they cancelled it for any reason it wouldn't be very good if all the people under 50 had nabbed all the appointments and I couldn't get the jab

WombatChocolate · 17/03/2021 17:15

Very disappointing for the upper 40s who felt it was so close.

Just watching Matt Hancock doing his briefing. He is saying over 40s will not be moved into at the moment. He is trying to explain it in terms of the fact they want to return to anyone in Grouos 1-9 who hasn’t yet accepted their invitation to be vaccinated. In reality that’s an excuse, as they were all geared up for it to go to 40s and actually lots of GPs have already been giving it to 40s. However, because of this reduced supply that’s expected, rather than focus on that and how it will limit vaccinations, they are instead saying the focus is in those not yet done in groups 1-9.

I know they are already ahead of where they said they would be, but it’s so disappointing for those in 40s who thought they might be able to book within the next week and are now unlikely to see the national booking site opening up to them.

VampireTheBuffetSlayer · 17/03/2021 17:16

Does anyone know why?

I am a bit gutted I'm 40 husbands 48 we have 3 kids at 3 different schools. He works in retail non essential so shut right now. April seemed like happy time frame .

I don't see how we can possibly vooen up everything and international travel if under 50s not done thats a sizeable part of the population who are mostly working age.

Monkeytennis97 · 17/03/2021 17:17

I'm a late 40s secondary school teacher. So angry.

Akire · 17/03/2021 17:18

Agree this isn’t about we love group 1-9 they must come first. If that was case why have those 20-40 with no health problems being getting it for months. When they could have started group 6 much much earlier.

Beebityboo · 17/03/2021 17:18

Is this going to delay lockdown ending?

Yep indeed. Its disheartening.

I completely get why they are focusing on making sure they get everyone in the older age groups done, but it just feels like someone just snatched something within touching distance away and is almost laughing about it.

RedToothBrush · 17/03/2021 17:20

@Beebityboo

Is this going to delay lockdown ending?
There is potential for that.

Too early to call yet.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 17/03/2021 17:21

Okay, so we know "what", but has anyone said "why"?

Akire · 17/03/2021 17:21

He just said shielding ends on March 31st so sounds all system go.

JorisBonson · 17/03/2021 17:21

I don't understand why either.

somethingischasingme · 17/03/2021 17:22

My second dose appt has just been cancelled.

thecatandthevicar · 17/03/2021 17:22

Is this going to delay lockdown ending?

far too many people believe, or act, like it already has!
It's amazing the numbers are not creeping back up already.

Pan2 · 17/03/2021 17:22

This is sod all to do with the EU.

MarshaBradyo · 17/03/2021 17:22

Annoying
Dh got his appointment today and I’m still waiting

AgeLikeWine · 17/03/2021 17:22

This is because the EU is banning exports of vaccines which they are not using, which their citizens do not want and in which their politicians have destroyed public confidence.

3asAbird · 17/03/2021 17:23

Somethings changed in a matter of days?

Which vaccibe supply is the issue?
We make az here

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/03/2021 17:23

Happy to wait for mine (30 years old) but I'm concerned about what this means for coming out of lockdown path.

windymillertheecowarrior · 17/03/2021 17:24

Should we not be looking at how far ahead of the initial rollout we are? The stories about the EU are sensationalist and seem exaggerated.

CallMeCleo · 17/03/2021 17:24

Sheer manipulation.

There are so many people now starting to think maybe they should not have it after all, so they need to ramp up the fear that you might not get a chance, that it's running out, in short supply, and this makes people want it more.

Don't fall for it.

We don't need a vaccine for a flu that 99.9% of people won't die from, anyway.

HSHorror · 17/03/2021 17:25

If this was coming then they should have been more careful about vaxxing 20/30 etc yo elsewhere.

cathyandclare · 17/03/2021 17:25

The targets were:

Monday 15 February for a first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to all older care home residents and staff, everyone over 70, all frontline NHS and care staff, and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable.

Everyone over the age of 50 and all adults in at-risk groups - amounting to 32 million people - by May ( revised to by 15 April )

And all adults by July 31st.

We'll be pretty close to those targets, even with a slow down in April.
