When does school and/or pubmageddon start?

Level75 · 26/04/2021 18:23

I'm booked in and made sure all my friends the same age (43) have booked too! Very excited. We all only had the choice of the huge vaccination center in our city.

OrangeBananaFish · 26/04/2021 18:34

I can just see it open officially to 43s tomorrow then the appointments will all go again. I've never been bothered about waiting for my vaccine before. I'm 42 with no health conditions so happy to wait my turn, but now I know I can book I just want to book, I don't even care if its not for a few weeks, at least it will be booked. The nearest place is 90 mins drive away though. We have 2 big vaccinations centres in our town plus a few other smaller ones nearby. I think the appointments near me have gone and I just need to wait until they get more online. Of course I still have to keep checking Grin

@Bordois

When does school and/or pubmageddon start?
Well the school one I blinked and missed itGrin

The pub one I suppose could still happen but no sign yet. No even a sniff. Maybe the guardian will get lucky and it will start next week 😉

PomLikeTheBattle · 26/04/2021 18:53

It’s so interesting. We’ve had no cases at all in our school (tbf only had 2 last year but certainly no outbreaks in other schools near us either ) , guess the vaccines group were correct with the priority groups 😊

TruelyWonder · 26/04/2021 19:05

Be careful walls have ears

Our school had a tsunami of cases by December. Only two cases since back. Both first week and with no contacts in school thanks to the school testing before back.
(So obviously the lateral flow testing for school kids was a complete was of time. Just like posters were shouting aboutGrin)

I suppose if we are fair. Community transmission is a big driver for cases. So unless that goes up again we can't judge fairly on schools.

I do feel masks and testing has helped enormously though. Even if some disagree. As well as giving teachers a little peace of mind until jabbed.

TruelyWonder · 26/04/2021 19:06

*was - waste

PomLikeTheBattle · 26/04/2021 21:02

Ears everywhere! But don’t think said anything at all controversial 😂

TruelyWonder · 26/04/2021 21:27

It was an advanced warning not too regarding schools. They are always watching 😶😂

PomLikeTheBattle · 26/04/2021 21:48

I am genuinely interested in transmission - honestly 🤣

I’m also interested in the other very controversial subject - holidays. I have to be careful about this at work too - firm uk holidayer in my team !!

TruelyWonder · 26/04/2021 21:57

Holiday wise the star wars style commissioner from EU republic of blame has said

"Anyone that is vaccinated is free to go there this summer."

I have no idea if individual countries will have their own rules tough. I only read a headline not the article 🤷‍♀️

Where is it you plan to go?

Strange times we live in when we are too worried to mention holidays, going out to places or social met ups with people. Just in case they give a lecture or get the hump.

EasterIssland · 26/04/2021 22:00

They’ve not said what the conditions are yet for Europe tho looks like if fully vaccinated then no pcr needed. However , they might request x days between vaccine and flight to avoid the pcr. Some countries are asking 2 weeks at least. We’ve some flights on the 15th of July and my husbands 12 weeks is on the 17th so we’re going to move the holidays so he can go fully vaccinated and avoid the pcr

PomLikeTheBattle · 26/04/2021 22:04

I know this is a safe place ... 😂

We’ve flights to America moved from last year to this July. I’m fully vaccinated, quite frankly DH is holding me back (went for a younger man).

Plus of course DC and risks there. I’m not cancelling yet though.

PomLikeTheBattle · 26/04/2021 22:06

Hope you can move it easily @EasterIssland

TruelyWonder · 26/04/2021 22:10

America by the time you would go should be a descent bet. Between us and them travel would be smooth. You picked well.

The problem you have with your toyboy is self made. No sympathy for cougers Grin

PomLikeTheBattle · 26/04/2021 22:17

I’m going to pretend I’m camping on Wales for 2 weeks for the sake of office harmony

Plus
Grumpy 40s DH will be delighted at his new title 🤣

EasterIssland · 26/04/2021 22:21

@PomLikeTheBattle

Hope you can move it easily *@EasterIssland*
Yes. It’s just flights as they’re flights to visit my family so no accommodations involved. Biggest problem might be my project telling me they’d not like the dates I’m going to propose ...
OrangeBananaFish · 26/04/2021 22:35

I'm currently trying to decide if I should book the last 2 weeks of the summer holidays for our usual trip to France. I've held off so far, but part of me feels its a possibility. No-one else has booked yet so thinking should I get in first? We can't go if there's any chance of isolation whether that's at home or a hotel, but late August is still a while away

PomLikeTheBattle · 26/04/2021 22:41

I’d book it. Very likely you’d be able to go somewhere.

EasterIssland · 26/04/2021 23:06

I know this is not the thread for it so don’t want to derail. I’d hold off for a bit. Specially because you can’t quarantine. France is starting to go better I think but still high numbers.
Bordois · 26/04/2021 23:27

We're going to Crete in August. DH gets his 2nd vaccination 4 weeks before we're due to go. I'd call that the universe telling us we can go 😉

OrangeBananaFish · 27/04/2021 06:58

Exactly @EasterIssland. That's what I'm thinking. @PomLikeTheBattle we'd only go to France as my parents own the accommodation, can't afford anything else.

Just tried to book my vaccine again and the website now says 42. Still no appointments near me though. Do they add more appointments everyday or am I waiting for a while yet now?

PomLikeTheBattle · 27/04/2021 07:09

Check every day, DH has just booked his @0600 - I was thrilled to be woken up and asked when I’m working next week !

Can you cancel your leave once booked ?

PomLikeTheBattle · 27/04/2021 07:32

Amazing progress

check every day I'm doing more than that. I just wonder if they do add more appointments throughout the day.
