Inastatus · 11/03/2021 16:46

Thanks Bigwoolly and Mindymomo. I hope you feel ok after yours Mindy but definitely have takeaway anyway!

EekThreek · 11/03/2021 16:46

New thread day!

Good news here is that my county is now firmly dark green, after hovering for a week in the blue.

And DH had a last minute call inviting him for his pre-op assessment, he's got to have part of his vertebrae shaved to relieve a slipped disc. Was meant to happen in Feb, but the orthopaedic hospital closed to routine ops to accommodate covid patients needing intensive care. So happy he might be comfortable again!!

BigWoollyJumpers · 11/03/2021 16:47

Alexadomyhair on the government coronavirus dash board, on the vaccinations page, you have to click on "data" above the general graph. It then splits it out for you.

Strike that, my county went light green today!

MadisonAvenue · 11/03/2021 17:13

Our area went dark green today, we were one of the few blue ones in the wider area and seemed stuck there.

Lovely to hear that more of you are getting your vaccinations! I was rough for a couple of days after mine but our 24 year old son loves to cook so he kept his Dad and brother well fed (I lost my appetite) 😃

TheChineseChicken · 11/03/2021 17:25

Woohoo, my area is white!

Although cases are up recently if you monitor the breakdown by age, as I do, there are more child cases. 8 March there were 178 10-14, 9th 336, 10th 421, 11th 436 (England figures). Increases in 15-19 too. Probably most asymptomatic so finding them and not having them transmitting the virus is actually a good thing.

So those cases aren't increasing... they're just being found, therefore reducing transmission, therefore should soon reduce despite more testing? Sorry, I know I am slow.

Have the number of cases in adult age groups continued to decrease?

2020CanDoOne · 11/03/2021 17:44

Thanks for the new continued good news thread. I was wondering, is there anyway of finding out the demographics of the latest deaths - I’m just wondering how many were unvaccinated, or just vaccinated. I’m sure this stuff must already to monitored but maybe it’s too soon to be published?

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2021 18:05

Brill thanks Woolly

alreadytaken · 11/03/2021 18:06

Reachers Todays figures are not great, really - there are increases for adults (but not much change in the oldest age groups). The increase over last week isnt as bad as it looks because a lot of the increase was children.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2021 18:08

Basic question alert which I’m sure I’ve missed

But are LFTs included in daily case figures?

OrangeBananaFish · 11/03/2021 18:12

Checking in. Thanks again for the new thread.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 11/03/2021 18:12

My borough has had no deaths reported for well over a week now

Our health care trust of 5 hospitals now only has 170 covid patients between them. Plus less than 50 people on ventilators.

So much improved picture here

Yes, they are
Pomegranatespompom · 11/03/2021 19:10

I WFH today. Empty house - was bliss!

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 19:14

America's got this beat, stunning 1.8% decrease in covid cases (and 1.9% decrease in covid deaths deaths) due to mask mandates:

^During March 1–December 31, 2020, state-issued mask mandates applied in 2,313 (73.6%) of the 3,142 U.S. counties. Mask mandates were associated with a 0.5 percentage point decrease (p = 0.02) in daily COVID-19 case growth rates 1–20 days after implementation and decreases of 1.1, 1.5, 1.7, and 1.8 percentage points 21–40, 41–60, 61–80, and 81–100 days, respectively, after implementation (p

@tootyfruitypickle just catching up on the last thread and you said your dd was struggling with glasses misting up - i have ones with a wire over the nose & find making sure i put it high up with glasses kind of wedged over it so that there are no gaps to allow breath to escape that way works best. If you're interested i can recommend the ones i got my dcs & they seem to be getting on fine with them.
Hope she had a better day today, it's horrible thinking of them not being happy at school Flowers

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 19:35

Ask her to look at her fingers and toes (20) then imagine 3 of them missing, that's like the weekly death rate from covid among under 60's due to covid. I think.

Figures for COVID-19 deaths with no underlying health conditions are available on Table 5, this means where no other underlying condition was listed on the death certificate.

*No pre-existing condition: England and Wales – 4476^

4476 too many! selfishness is normal for young people but come on.

MarshaBradyo · 11/03/2021 19:39

Cornish thanks

Katy who are you posting to?

KatyNonRoyal · 11/03/2021 19:50

@ArianaVenti, sorry I was shaking after someone trolled me and forgot the @

tootyfruitypickle · 11/03/2021 20:35

@ArianaVenti thank you that's a really kind post , she seems a bit better today, she said it's still a pain but it didn't seem such a big issue today, she does pull the mask really high up but I think it's taken her a day to work out how best to do it as yesterday the fabric was getting in her eyes.

Think it's v tiring for them with all the changes to routine , this week has reminded me of starting reception- and shes y8! Have got so used to her even moods this past lockdown it's been a shock to have her with after school grumpiness ! But so good she's back with her friends, I did worry with her stuck with me 247!

Novavax becomes latest vaccine to show high levels of efficacy

The Novavax vaccine, which will be produced in Teesside if approved, has been found to be more than 96% effective in protecting against the original strain of COVID-19.

It was also found to be 100% effective at preventing severe illness.

The UK has 60 million doses of the Novavax vaccine on order.
