Hello, any over 40s being called yet (by age only) and if so whereabouts (roughly)?

Is anyone else just about to turn 50 in the next few weeks? Do you think we will count as part of the mopping up process as soon as we are 50? Or will we have to wait until May?

TomBarbara · 17/03/2021 20:04

I think you will count. I know when they were offering the flu vax to 50+ this winter I got an invitation before I turned 50

@littlewhitestar

I'm 50 in August but I think all like us will have to wait. No mopping up for us.

underneaththeash · 18/03/2021 06:46

My brother and his partner near Winchester have been called. (41&46).

doublenotdobble · 18/03/2021 06:53

I got invited yesterday and going this afternoon, I'm 45 in London

Pushkinia · 18/03/2021 08:00

I'm 53, have two neurological conditions (although the GP surgery have not put me in group 6) and work in multiple schools through the week. The national booking site didn't open for me until yesterday evening, after Matt Hancock's announcement of no first appointments in April. Consequently there are no appointments at all in North East England. I tried for 3 hours last night and started again at 5 am - nothing available even 30-40 miles away. The Government saying they've "offered appointments to all over 50s" is a lie. Some of us won't be able to get a first vaccination until May.

Ask your GP to update your records. Print off the relevant details if you need to, most websites for neurological conditions have a page on being eligible for the vaccine.
Pushkinia · 18/03/2021 08:19

@WreckTangled Thanks but my surgery refuse to discuss vaccine groups with patients. They’ve put posts on their FB page saying don’t ring because we won’t be discussing it. Feeling pretty let down now.

WreckTangled · 18/03/2021 08:21

Send an email or letter for the attention of the practice manager.

Pushkinia · 18/03/2021 08:27

@WreckTangled Thank you, I’ll try that. It may not make any difference to the vaccine, since GP hubs won’t be offering first appointments in April either, but it might relieve some of the frustration with the surgery!

WreckTangled · 18/03/2021 08:29

It's really tricky as I see where the surgery are coming from, they can't have the phones clogged up with vaccination calls but why not set up a dedicated line? I know the local surgeries here have. If they code your notes properly you should be able to book through the national booking system so won't need it doing at the GP.

Pushkinia · 18/03/2021 08:32

That’s how I know I’m not group 6! Booking site only opened up last night.

purplebagladylovesgin · 18/03/2021 09:17

@Pushkinia email your GP practice manger. You can say you are eligible to book via the national booking system but would rather be vaccinated through the surgery. Say you can't get an accessible appointment online and can they book you in via the surgery please.
It puts the ball back to them.

Surgeries also get paid per vaccination they administer and are generally keen to organise vaccines directly if they can.

LoopyLockdown · 18/03/2021 09:23

Wales. My surgery (if.our local fb page is to believed ran out of vaccines for 2 weeks). As a result my surgery is now calling over 60s.

middleager · 18/03/2021 13:11

Just heard a friend who is 2 months older than me (48) and lives in same area has hers booked for this weekend.
Another, who is 37, no health conditions has also been called.

CxHB · 18/03/2021 19:23

Oh I was chasing my group 6 thing up today (I’d given up because of the previous over 40s news) but it’s not going to matter if you can’t book first appointments is it?

Also neurological, they really could have done with writing a full list because there’s so many rarer ones that weren’t automatically included but should have been.

PiersMorganBigMLittleOrgan · 18/03/2021 19:35

I was invited yesterday. 42, no underlying health conditions. Norfolk. Was absolutely flabbergasted to get invite so soon.

PiersMorganBigMLittleOrgan · 18/03/2021 19:35

*invited

OliviaBensonsEyebrow · 18/03/2021 19:37

I've been called. Not sure if it's a mistake.

I'm 44, no underlying conditions. Not in a front line job.

Got a text this morning, booked via the website for 1st dose on 29th March.

HSHorror · 18/03/2021 19:54

Cxhb
Our gp fb says group 6 can still book - but you have to be flagged already or it will get referred to a dr to look into where before they were apparently more flexible.
So worth a try.

I honestly cant believe they are still inviting much younger people in some areas.

OliviaBensonsEyebrow · 18/03/2021 20:04

@HSHorror

The only thing I can think of is that my GP is in central Manchester and the demographics of that area will be mostly young. So perhaps they got through the over 50s faster than average.

nordica · 18/03/2021 20:09

A 43 year old friend in London got her invite text this week and is booked for Saturday. She has no underlying conditions.

This randomness is making the delay especially frustrating. Why are some so lucky and the rest of us have to wait for many weeks still.

CxHB · 18/03/2021 20:24

Thanks HSHorror. I was trying to get flagged weeks ago and they didn’t seem to know what I was on about tbh (they said I was already but I couldn’t book) so when it looked like I’d get it on age first anyway I gave up. I sent a short essay this afternoon so we’ll see.

The randomness is frustrating nordica.

Wiifitmama · 18/03/2021 20:28

I was invited today. London, 48, no health conditions. I know many others in similar age bracket also invited. I was surprised given the news. However, I live in an area of low vaccine take up (which is true for a lot of London) so assume that is the reason they are moving to younger ages.

middleager · 18/03/2021 20:41

This is how I feel. My friend, my age, 48, two months older than me, lives two streets away (different GP) no underlying conditions, gets hers this Sat.
