Hello, any over 40s being called yet (by age only) and if so whereabouts (roughly)?
Thanks

I'm also in Manchester. Early 40s with no illnesses. I'm having mine on Saturday. It feels like a lottery.

KatherineJaneway · 19/03/2021 09:08

This randomness is making the delay especially frustrating. Why are some so lucky and the rest of us have to wait for many weeks still.

I agree. I'm really pleased people are being vaccinated and am happy for them but the prospect of not being vaccinated until May time is a bit depressing when others are getting their chance and younger than me.

WombatChocolate · 19/03/2021 09:23

Yes, I think lots of upper 40s are having vaccine envy now. Envy towards the 40s who scraped in with a booking because their area was ahead, and envy towards those just a year or two older who are in the 50+ group and will certainly receive it soon if not already.

I was very disappointed on Weds. It felt handled poorly, in terms of no acknowledgement that something that the 40s had been told was very close, now wasn’t. The government HAD primed the media to post about vaccines for over 40s by the end of March and by Easter. But no longer the case.

However, I am getting over it now. I’m focusing on the positives of 25m done, all of grouos 1-9 being offered it now and the fact 40s will be next. I’m accepting there will be supply issues. There probably will be further supply issues. I’m accepting that perhaps we all got a bit complacent about the supply chain. When there’s a delay, someone has to wait. And this just so happens to be the 40s. If the delay had been a couple of weeks earlier it would have been 50s and if a couple of weeks later, might have been 30s. The 40s are just the unlucky ones this time.

Boris spoke about it better yesterday than Hancock did on Weds. he acknowledged supply issues and delays moving onto new groups. They have also been careful to only have very broad targets officially (all under 50s by end July) so they are still able to say they are on track. The mentions of 40s starting by end March and being done by Easter, was all unofficial.....although the picture of dropping ages through March and GPs offering to lots of 40s in many areas certainly showed this want just pie in the sky, but very much what was happening and coming. But I guess someone somewhere in government who knows about these things, ensured the office targets were broad, as they knew supply was unpredictable and that promising too many very specific things was likely to lead to disappointment. They very much want to under promise and over deliver now don’t they. This is a bit of a blip in this as 40s feel disappointed, but also, the official timeline is still on track. And we all do understand that supply is unreliable.

So, I’m going to stop dwelling on disappointment today. I’ve had 2 days of feeling sad that it’s a 6 week wait. I’m moving on now and thinking well perhaps it won’t actually be 6 weeks and maybe things will improve a bit. And I know 40s will be next and we will be jabbed soon, even though not as soon as I’d thought 3 days ago.

mrsknottschicken · 19/03/2021 09:38

@WombatChocolate I'm going to have to follow your lead, I think. I was really disappointed at the news. And it is galling seeing people you know are younger than you, with no health conditions, announcing on FB that they have been vaccinated. I thought Matt Hancock's press conference was awful and he really wasn't straight with people. But I agree that Boris spoke better about it (even though I'm not a fan of his). I'm hoping that maybe things will be better/quicker than we think and perhaps it might be some time in April that we get done after all. Matt Hancock said in the commons on Thursday "There will be no weeks in April with no first doses". So maybe they'll get to the 45-50 group at some point in April...you never know....

CappuccinoCounter · 19/03/2021 09:38

I do wonder if some of the 40s might still carry on being invited. They were never on the official schedule anyway, and areas were still inviting them if they had spare capacity. The government has said that there will never be a week in April where there aren't first doses happening, so I wouldn't be surprised if areas that have done all the over 50s and are coming on well with all the second doses they need to at that point, could still be inviting whoever is next on the list. There just won't be a song and dance about it in the media, as it's still unofficial. I know that areas have been told not to upload new appointments or something, but they will still have some appointments, and some areas are already pretty much done the over 50s, so it might be a slow and gradual slide into the 40s regardless. They will have to use up the doses anyway, and it'll be too soon for second doses for all the March people and even many of the Feb people.

Freshprincess · 19/03/2021 09:41

We’re on early 50s at the moment.

I’m 49 and have tried the NHS site a few times, as I’m the ‘right’ year group, but nothing yet.

Hopefully I’ll get mine before supplies drop.

Akire · 19/03/2021 09:43

They have said there will still be 1st jabs in April so hopefully they will change the booking to 49 then 48. Which they should have done anyway if there is enough spare for 20-30s to be getting for no reason.

WombatChocolate · 19/03/2021 10:40

The first jabs in April will likely be 50s who are booking now, plus all the mop up that they are always working on, of those in previous cohorts who didn’t book or attend for a variety of reasons.

I wouldn’t interpret the mention of 1st jab appointments through April as being 40s sadly. Those 1st jab numbers will be significantly down and they will be those of earlier groups. Boris and Matt Hancock have been careful not to talk about 40s specifically. They just talk about those above 50 and the date of 15 March and those under 50 and the end of July date.

Currently, 40s won’t be offered until May, unless they got invited before the letter of Weds told vaccine sites to cease new bookings to younger age groups and not to add further appointments. It could change if supply increases. Or potentially it could go on longer too if supply continues to have problems. They aren’t goi g to pin down dates further because it risks under delivering and that causes problems.

SixDegrees · 19/03/2021 11:30

I’d agree with this.
The national booking system only opened to the 50-54 age group this week, didn’t it?
Thats several million people who’d only just started booking appointments before Wednesday’s announcement. And certainly before Wednesday it was possible to book first appointments for April, I know a few people who’d done that because there weren’t earlier dates showing at their most convenient vaccination centres.

So I’d guess there’s probably a fair number of people in the 50 - 54 age bracket who’ll be struggling to get first appointments booked before April. Aside from others in the top priority groups who haven’t booked for whatever reason.

Pastanred · 19/03/2021 17:03

People in the priority groups can still book at end of month and in April I thought

WorriedMillie · 19/03/2021 17:16

Friend (46) got called by her GP surgery last week, she’s south Birmingham
But it seems to be very site specific, as other local friends of hers of a similar age and different GP practice haven’t heard yet

katkit · 19/03/2021 22:08

Yes- 43 and in Dorset.

SpringisSpinning · 19/03/2021 22:13

45 and getting done in a few days, south east, lots of 40+ getting called but sm telling me that many 50+ are actually still waiting!

Alleycat02 · 20/03/2021 07:20

I was very surprised that my husband got a text on Thursday and booked his jab for later today - he's 48 with no health issues, not a healthcare worker or carer etc, regular BMI...... We're in New Forest area.

toolatetooearly · 20/03/2021 08:19

Yes - I'm 46, no health issues. I got the text on Tuesday and had the first vaccine on Thursday. I know other healthy over-40s in my area (Enfield) who have had it too.

Pearl97 · 20/03/2021 09:08

It would be interesting to see if people under 50 are still being contacted after the announcement that they won't be called for 6 weeks?

scentoflilacs · 20/03/2021 09:12

I know a couple of people in their 40s who’ve got dates (no online booking system here - you get given a date) who were convinced it was due to age as they have no health issues, however on further investigation it turned out to be linked to issues during previous pregnancies.

nordica · 20/03/2021 11:34

Another local friend in her early 40s is having her jab today - no pre-existing conditions (she doesn't have kids so can't be related to previous pregnancies and she's slim so not BMI related). She got the invite on Wednesday just before the new guidance came in and said her other friends in the same age group and same GP got their invites too because our area is so far ahead... I'm guessing Wednesday evening was the cut off for invites for the younger age groups though and the rest of us are now waiting a while.

purplebagladylovesgin · 22/03/2021 17:23

My sister was called today for hers. She's 47.

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2021 17:24

Dh had his on Friday, 48

MarshaBradyo · 22/03/2021 17:25

London

middleager · 22/03/2021 20:31

It really looks like a postcode lottery as under 40s who've 'slipped through the net' in my region have had appointments cancelled according to this (though I'm actually aware of at least half a dozen on FB aged between 37 and 48 who did have vaccinations this weekend)

cptartapp · 22/03/2021 20:45

DH called today. Going on Friday. No health conditions. 49 in Lancashire.

Dh and I have both had invitations via our gp surgery to book our vaccines today- mid 40s with no underlying medical issues.

We're in Gloucestershire.
