Hello, any over 40s being called yet (by age only) and if so whereabouts (roughly)?
Thanks

Just watching Matt Hancock doing his briefing.

He is saying they WONT be moving into the over 40s until they have re-visited all those in groups 1-9 who haven’t yet taken the jab.

It seems this is their way of handling the shortage of vaccines predicted from April which are currently being reported by BBCs. It looks like they won’t be taking further bookings into April on the national site due to this expected decline in supply.

So potentially disappointing for those in their 40s who thought it was about to be them.

If you do get an invite from GP and the local led led services, book as soon as you can, because it might be that places are not available for long.

Disappointing....but I guess they are already ahead, but when it felt so close it is disappointing.

SpookieDookie · 17/03/2021 17:13

Called and had my jab in East of England this week, early 40s, no pre existing conditions. All the 40s at my doctors were called.

Borogroves · 17/03/2021 17:30

Very disappointing! I'm 49, have high blood pressure and have been hospitalised twice with pneumonia. I also work in a school. I was really hoping that my vaccine was just round the corner and that there was a chance I could be vaccinated by Easter before the start of term.

Frequentflier · 17/03/2021 17:31

Aargh am 49 too and have just missed the cutoff. So frustrating.

Stillgoings · 17/03/2021 17:32

Massively disappointed at the press conference news.

SixDegrees · 17/03/2021 17:34

I had a nurse appointment today (not Covid related), and the nurse told me that the GP surgery is onto Group 9 now (the over 50’s).

I was a bit surprised about that claim TBH, given that I received a text from the NHS vaccine booking service at the weekend inviting me for a vaccine on the grounds of underlying health conditions.
So if the GP surgery really is vaccinating Group 9, then NHS England think I’m Group 6, but my GP surgery doesn’t. Goodness only knows what’s going on with my medical records Confused

SixDegrees · 17/03/2021 17:38

And... just saw the recent posts about delays for the under 50’s. That’s going to be massively disappointing for a lot of people.

Catlover10 · 17/03/2021 17:40

@SixDegrees I’m having similar confusions. My GP service surgery is apparently on group 7-9 now, yet I got a text today inviting me to book (I’m 27). Only things I can think of are that I had gestational diabetes and was also prescribed an inhaler last year for some wheezing. But I didn’t think either would put me in group 6 so now I’m baffled, and wondering if it’s a mistake

Eccle80 · 17/03/2021 18:05

I’m gutted at the news on delays for the under 50s, as an asthmatic in my 40s with 3 kids at school I was really hoping to be vaccinated soon to reduce my anxiety around catching Covid.

WombatChocolate · 17/03/2021 18:05

Very disappointing.

Many over 40s expected the national booking site to open to upper 40s at the end of this week/early next week. Some GPs already offering.

The letter referred to which is to all vaccination centres now tells them to stop offering new appointments beyond end March immediately and that over 40s should not be offered until May except in exceptional circumstances which really mean they need to be in Group 6.

That’s a delay of 6-7 weeks from what many upper 40s expected. That’s why it’s so disappointing.

The gov never promised under 50s anything, behind they would be done by end the of July. So actually, they aren’t breaking any promises. But there have previously never been mentions of delays to the roll out and even tonight in the briefing, Hancock was loathe to refer to those, but instead talked about mopping up those in 1-9.

They will be able to say that they are doing that through April now. But that want the plan. The plan was to mop up anyone not done AND deliver 2nd jabs AND to expand to the 40s. It is the latter part which is being delayed.

No wonder huge numbers of people are gutted. It felt so near and feels like it’s snatched away.

middleager · 17/03/2021 18:13

Gutted about the delays too.
I'm 48, DH, 47 kids at different secondaries in high risk areas.

We managed to avoid catching Covid when one teen brought it back from school, but the other child hasn't had it yet.

TempsPerdu · 17/03/2021 18:14

DP and a few local friends just squeezed theirs in yesterday and today (DP is mid 40s, friends aged 43+). We’re in a north London borough whose vaccine delivery seems to have been particularly efficient so far.

I’m 40 but not holding my breath for my own invitation given this evening’s news.

sunnydaleslayer · 17/03/2021 18:17

@Catlover10

I know a few people who had GD that have been called for vaccine. I think it must flag up on some GPs systems as diabetes and therefore group 6.

WreckTangled · 17/03/2021 18:21

Yes Catlover it'll be the gestational diabetes. Those who have had it previously were all (mostly mistakenly) put into group six.

I read that as you having 47 kids!
KatherineJaneway · 17/03/2021 18:31

Looks like they're halting a bit and revisiting those who have not come forward to have the jab so far. I feel sad as I am 49 so just missed the 50 and above cut off.

WombatChocolate · 17/03/2021 18:38

The mopping up those who haven’t come forward is always part of the plan. GPs are told to follow up and follow and follow up. As time passes, it’s harder to get positive outcomes from those who really do t want the jab. Those people wouldn’t account for the millions being delivered each day.

The plan was mopping up AND 2nd doses AND next cohort. Now there isn’t enough, it’s next cohort who are delayed by 6 weeks. But they won’t say that.

middleager · 17/03/2021 18:41

Oh God Clara's Shock now that would give the Radfords a bit of competition!

Great, so if I decline, I will be harassed by my GP until I submit and have the vaccine?
WombatChocolate · 17/03/2021 19:04

Xeno, if you don’t book when invited, yes you will be followed up.

That’s because some people just don’t get round to booking. Some people intend to but are a bit chaotic and need 2 or 3 attempts and more personalised contact in order to book.

So yes, you can expect to be contacted several times. And that is because SOME people who haven’t booked, will book after those contacts.

If you don’t want it, you just have say it each time, clearly and firmly.

Someone on another thread reported hearing by text, letter, call from receptionist, call from GP - 7 contacts in all. They were an elderly person with conditions that made them vulnerable. Personally I think the effort put in was admirable.

In the end it is everyone’s choice, but given we believe the vulnerable particularly need the jab, plus the more that have it the bigger the benefit to all of society, there will be follow ups. At some point they will stop, but yes you’d an expect to be contacted and that they will ask you why you’re not taking up the offer.

I can see you might see it as harassment. If you really do t want to be contacted again, then express that very strongly. It might reduce the times you hear. But know some people who haven’t taken it up aren’t resisters to the vaccine..they want to have it, but they need more support to book and actually get it....and it’s right that support is there. Some people will need help booking, some will need transport arranging for them, some will need a home visit, some will need to understand what is being offered or where it is...you’d be surprised how many people DO want the jab but don’t book when they get a letter for a wide range of reasons.

Frequentflier · 17/03/2021 19:17

Honestly I am not sure what I think of this '.mopping up' plan. I wish those of us who are very keen to have the jab and will travel hours to get it could have it now.

WombatChocolate · 17/03/2021 19:21

Mopping up was always on the cards and they will be mopping up after the jab has been offered to the whole population. They just have to keep following people up and getting a few extras done all the times, especially amongst the vulnerable. But that isn’t a new idea. They always knew they would be doing that right through. So suggesting April will be used JUST for that and 2nd dosers is dishonest, because that wasnt the plan. 40s were intended to have it rolled out to them after 50s alongside the mop up and 2nd dosers. There is a big delay of 6-7 weeks.

He will be pressed on this in the coming days but I wonder if he will ever be honest or just keep saying ‘we said July 31 for all people and that still applies’...not much help if you’re 49 and thought you’d be able to book next week and now have to wait until May.

CrocodilesCry · 17/03/2021 19:29

DP is 56 he had his yesterday. He was booked for one of the last slots and asked if there were any spare doses for me (40) due to no shows- and there were. I have a lifelong lung condition but I wasn't in group 6 despite querying it with the GP.

I'm very grateful. Especially with it looking like first doses are going to be delayed through April now due to the supply issues.

Lulu1919 · 17/03/2021 19:31

50 had text two weeks ago ish...clicked link got first available slot..it's on Saturday !!

TomBarbara · 17/03/2021 19:58
