This thread seems to be divided between “it’s too quick, we’ll be in lockdown again before we know it!” And “such a wait for hairdressers, however will we survive?!” MN is a funny place sometimes! 😂

I cut my own hair beautifully (🤣) yesterday so I’m good for a few more months. I just want to go for a swim and see my family indoors and overnight after driving 3 hours to see them and introduce my 5mo baby who hasn’t met them yet...

Btw I’m SE and my boys went to school in September and stayed there until Christmas, it’s not just the schools spreading, it’s the high levels in the community too, lots of 60+ Covid cases here after Christmas, they didn’t get it from school!

Celestine70 · 22/02/2021 19:01

When were foreign holidays not allowed?

Loverofoldfilms · 22/02/2021 19:02

@MGMidget

It’s great for now until a vaccine-resistant variant comes along. Then it may take months to develop a suitable vaccine. We will have another “feel-good” summer like last year but next winter is an unknown at the moment!
The more you allow the virus to go and circulate the more likely we will have new mutations. It's all very sad.
Parker231 · 22/02/2021 19:04

Nothing has been said yet about when international travel can restart. I imagine a lot rests on whether other countries will let us in, vaccine passports, quarantine on return etc

Loverofoldfilms · 22/02/2021 19:05

@VinylDetective

In Germany it has to be 35 for them to open up

They’ll be locked down for ever then because they’re not vaccinating anyone. We’ve done a third of the adult population already.

I thought that too until I realised that Germany has inoculated much higher number of people with the necessary TWO doses than the UK.

Their rates are much, much lower than in the UK but lots of people died too. Nowhere near as bad as the UK mostly because they have stronger healthcare but still.

All I really care about is indoor mixing. I miss my little grandchild so much. Have had depression and this has made everything so much worse. I just want some time with my granddaughter.

Would you be able to meet her outdoors? Or bubble up, sorry to hear that Flowers

Thought It said mid nay earliest?
Although personally I don't think holidays abroad should happen until indoor mixing for families is allowed and not just 6 people

Harmonypuss · 22/02/2021 19:27

Colleges and universities going back to pepper teaching?

Yes they are, they have already vaccinated 6% of the population.
Mumzy2020 · 22/02/2021 19:50

I give it 3 months Max before we're back in lockdown!

Oh snap

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 22/02/2021 19:58

Ok I am changing my post.

Why three months and not two or four?

VinylDetective · 22/02/2021 19:59

Yes they are, they have already vaccinated 6% of the population

Goodness, a whole 6%. They’d have done a lot more if they hadn’t turned their noses up at the Oxford vaccine.

I agree.

Elections in May will be the start of the end of the United Kingdom.
Boris is also having his arse nipped by those in his party who want to see an end to lockdown.
This is also a sop to them.
Boris has no way of predicting how the virus will play out in the next 6 months, having people book summer holidays based on his wild guesswork is irresponsible.

Nobody has. There are a few crystal balls working overtime on here tonight though.

More people in Germany have had both doses if the vaccine compared to the UK, 6% have had both vaccines.

The start of the end to the United Kingdom

Ok then😎

Look, I know how keen a certain 'progressive' section are in Britain on praising every country but our own, but I thought it was established that one inoculation if near as effective as two? As someone on Mumsnet put it: You and your mum can have two doses, or the pair of you can have one each, and the couple next door can be vaccinated two. Which do you prefer?

(And shouting TWO in capital letters doesn't make your case more moral)..

I have doubts about the official Covid death counts in most countries, though I suspect the German ones are less dubious than most. I'd love to know how the obesity-rate compares.

VinylDetective · 22/02/2021 20:09

My sil and bil in Hamburg, both over 70, are still waiting for their first @SimonJT. So the German rollout is clearly going wrong somewhere if 6% have had two vaccinations.

speakout · 22/02/2021 20:09

I know that is of no concern to many.

But Boris doesn't want to be the one responsible for the break up of the UK.

Xenia · 22/02/2021 20:15

The UK is well ahead of Germany and most of the Eu and the world (other than Israel which I think is the best).

The lockdown largely continues so I regard this as a continuation of lockdown speech not a removal of the breaches of our rights and freedoms.

SimonT said "More people in Germany have had both doses if the vaccine compared to the UK, 6% have had both vaccines".

I was never great shakes at maths, but doesn't it mean that 94% of Germans are facing tomorrow with no vaccine protection?

One inoculation seems to protect people, for the time, from hospitalisation and death. You seem almost to wish that it didn't.
