@icantthinkofanamehelp

It's not a fuck up. We have very effective vaccines. We need to get on with life.
This 100%
jomeow1 · 22/02/2021 13:33

@Parker231i think 30-50 for a wedding is very reasonable and should be allowed, starting from May.

If some people only want a big party with 200 plus then yes they will be waiting a while. People might not even feel comfortable going.

jomeow1 · 22/02/2021 13:34

@PufferFishGoneWrong @icantthinkofanamehelp

Not until 2022 now apparently. 2021 is cancelled according to MN.

BettysButtons · 22/02/2021 13:35
@BettysButtons I am really hoping it is more of a flexible/some years only approach. I am all for kids getting back to school but not at all costs.
So do I but so many people here seem to think the news means everyone is back at once.
I'm hoping that early reports seemingly stating that 'EVERYONE IS GOING BACK AT ONCE' are just crappy headlines and poor journalism.

The fact that the BBC has put this out in the last hour seems to indicate that there will be some sort of phased return.

user68901 · 22/02/2021 13:55

@AllAroundTheWrekin

I'm not a teacher.

Teachers have not been shown how to do lateral flow tests.

I did a lateral flow test for work. It literally took someone 5 seconds to show me what to do .
Oblomov21 · 22/02/2021 13:55

I don't want to be restricted anymore. I want to be given the choice. If my mum chooses to stay at home and see no one that's her choice.
But I want the choice back. I want to be able to go out if I want to. In someone's garden for a glass of wine. I've been vaccinated, soon to have 2nd dose.

We can't carry on for ever with this miserable existence. My secondary ds's have had enough now. Do have I. I think we should do a mahoosive push on getting more vaccinated by Easter. And then open up restaurants and hairdressers etc.

Unmellowbirds · 22/02/2021 13:56

As much as I hate to drop in some positive news amongst all the doom and gloom, some very positive research about both vaccines from Public Health Scotland.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-56153600

Sounds like it's time to open up, to me.

rawalpindithelabrador · 22/02/2021 14:00

I'm with you, Ob.

Oaktree55 · 22/02/2021 14:00

Face masks in class in Secondaries apparently.

TwirpingBird · 22/02/2021 14:04

I completely agree Ob. At this point, we have done our best to protect the vulnerable (and subsequently the NHS), and yes some people wont feel comfortable going to a pub or a hairdresser, or it's still too risky for them, but for me, I feel I need some freedom of choice. The vaccines are ploughing on, huge amounts of vulnerable people have some immunity now, it's time for everyone to make decisions for themselves now.

userxx · 22/02/2021 14:05

But I want the choice back. I want to be able to go out if I want to. In someone's garden for a glass of wine.

Glass ? Just bring me the barrel. God I miss my friends, drinking wine alone is no fun.

Vargas · 22/02/2021 14:07

@Unmellowbirds How dare you put good news on this thread of Doom! Grin

One third of adults in the UK have had at least one vaccine dose. The UK has ordered more than enough vaccine to immunise everyone else in the country. Huge numbers of younger people have had Covid already and will have some sort of immunity.

I know some people on MN would like to stay locked down until we reach zero Covid, but that is not going to happen, so let's get the kids back to school. And maybe open the hairdressers too? Grin

Unmellowbirds · 22/02/2021 14:07

Me too, ob. Your wishes don't seem unduly unreasonable either - a glass of wine in someone's garden isn't exactly a mass rave.

I also have to say that, much as it would pain me to watch the vaccinated able to have greater freedoms (mainly overseas travel) that I don't, for entirely selfish reasons, we need some people out and about spending for all of our benefit. And, in fairness, I can't imagine it's been much fun being vulnerable throughout this, so there's probably a greater need for it!

Unmellowbirds · 22/02/2021 14:08

@Vargas I'll get my coat.

withlotsoflove · 22/02/2021 14:11

So this was asked earlier & l can’t see what the replies were ( if any)
What is to stop me from asking my hairdresser to do my roots in her garden?
I’ll wash it all out as l live minutes from her home?
She has a salon in her house usually.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2021 14:14

Ditto want the choice. To go for a meal /hug a friend /etc

COVID is going to be here next year’s day possibly forever line the flu

People can still catch it with having the Vaccine but unlikely to die or use nhs resources

Our wedding last year was meant to be 75 day and prob another 75 eve so 150

We know no way will be 150 tho everyone said last year when rebooking a year +later will be fine

We are now at next year

Now saying that for 2022

Prob will say that next year for 2023

We would get married with 15 but prefer 30 like funerals /wakes

But just want to get married so if they allow wedding we will in early may

jomeow1 · 22/02/2021 14:20

@Blondeshavemorefun fingers crossed for you! I hope you’ll be allowed at least 30.

If there’s no big weddings this year, I don’t know if the industry could survive another wedding season so 2022 might be redundant.

LongDistanceClaret · 22/02/2021 14:20

If all school years really are going back on the 8th then thank God for that. I am unable to homeschool properly as work takes priority. DC on computer nearly all day, I have little time to check work completed etc. Rarely wants to go out for walks and has become insular. Thank goodness the government have realised that covid is not the sole priority anymore.

CheltenhamLady · 22/02/2021 14:21

@frakas

*What about weddings? Mine is late June, postponed from last June. I have 100 guests in a big church. Would like to know where I stand*

Not being rude but it should already be obvious to you that won't be possible.

Weddings seem to be largely forgotten, which is really unfair when you consider the logistics of such an event. My son just rang, he and his Fiancee were due to get married in May, but are now looking at alternative dates.

Surely, a workable option would be 50% of the venue/church capacity?

Oblomov21 · 22/02/2021 14:21

Why aren't more people being vaccinated?
Some days only 200,000. Some days 600,000.

Looks like the plans are now leaked.
MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2021 14:22

@Oblomov21

Supply is limiting factor
DinoDisco · 22/02/2021 14:24

I have heard via friend who works in journalism for big newspaper (trust it as much or little as you want) that wedding restrictions will be lifted from 21st June, along with larger events like theatres.

Nightclubs then opening from August

Let's see...

I am really hopeful but it seems optimistic. I guess the numbers vaccinated will be high by then.

Teardrop2021 · 22/02/2021 14:25

This was on the papers don't how true it is

Looks like the plans are now leaked.
m0therofdragons · 22/02/2021 14:25

@user68901 exactly. I got emailed a YouTube link and at first I was a bit baffled but I now do it while walking round the bedroom getting ready and talking to dh. I had a spare and used it on dd when she had a headache because she’s in school and I was worried but she didn’t quality for a pcr. Totally fine, slightly more than taking your dc temp but not much.

Sitchervice · 22/02/2021 14:25

At this point all I want is to beable to meet with my mother so I can pick up the buggy she spontaneously brought for my son (she brought it just be for lock down and I'm due in June)

She lives in a different county to me so I can't meet with her or risk getting fined. 🙄
