Nightclubs then opening from August

Thank christ for that. Time to limber up, ready to throw some shapes on the dancefloor.

Downing Street has revealed four key tests which will be examined each step of the way, which are:

 1. The vaccine deployment programme continues successfully.
 1. Evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths in those vaccinated.
 1. Infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS.
 1. Our assessment of the risks is not fundamentally changed by new "variants of concern".

I'm another covid bride. I booked for May 2020, then October and now I'm late July. I have so many different numbers lists 20, 30 and 50. My church is massive, like a cathedral so I'll be so disappointed if it's still very low come July. I'm in Scotland though so we will be locked down until the end of times I think.

The pages I'm on I feel so bad for some couples, I had everything pretty much done as we were so close to the date when lockdown happened however there are some girls who haven't even managed to get a dress because all the shops are closed and they'll need time to get them sorted. So there needs to be a rough timeline.

Fingers crossed though!

Moonstone1234 · 22/02/2021 14:28
 1. What would you like to see happen please?

Society as a whole doesnt make sense. We locked down to protect the NHS from being overwhelmed with a very large percentage of those people being over 75. Yes, I know there are others who have sadly passed away but generally with underlying health conditions (which includes being obese).

Bel Mooney wrote in the Mail on Saturday that her DF at 99 had passed away very recently. He had multiple health conditions and was 99. He was classed as a CV19 death. She was told by the consultant that NO flu deaths have been registered this year. Not one! There is something not quite right here.

People saying its far too quick - well bar the vaccine being given out in double quick time, the people who were likely to have caught CV19 severely passing away, infection rates dropping dramatically, spring is around the corner. What more do people want. Jesus - there are some doom mongers around...

So w

@Teardrop2021

This was on the papers don't how true it is
'March 8-29 Schools re-open'

Not ON March 8th then? ... We'll be told later.

TwirpingBird · 22/02/2021 14:31

@DinoDisco

I have heard via friend who works in journalism for big newspaper (trust it as much or little as you want) that wedding restrictions will be lifted from 21st June, along with larger events like theatres.

Nightclubs then opening from August

Let's see...

I am really hopeful but it seems optimistic. I guess the numbers vaccinated will be high by then.

If that's the case, then I want to be able to get on a plane and go home to Ireland for the first time in 2 years. My family need to meet my DD if someone can go clubbing but my vaccinated parents cant get to know their grandchild, then that's purely cruel.
Oblomov21 · 22/02/2021 14:31

Marsha, no, supply had not been an issue for a while now.

Teardrop2021 · 22/02/2021 14:32

Who knows could be primary the 8th then secondaries afew weeks later however the papers aren't a reliable source.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/02/2021 14:32
@Blondeshavemorefun fingers crossed for you! I hope you’ll be allowed at least 30.

If there’s no big weddings this year, I don’t know if the industry could survive another wedding season so 2022 might be redundant.
Thanks @jomeow1

@Lyricallie same as. As wedding was just over 8w away we had all planned and paid for

Then venue shut for COVID. Then so,d and new owners shut totally leaving us 5mths to find a new venue for same date. Which we did amazingly

MarshaBradyo · 22/02/2021 14:34

@Oblomov21

Marsha, no, supply had not been an issue for a while now.
I think it’s what causes daily change

Maybe someone will confirm either way

Cuntosaurous · 22/02/2021 14:35

@ssd

November

4th lockdown

😂😂 right?
cptartapp · 22/02/2021 14:35

oak if that's true I would hope there's no need to self isolate half the class following contact with a positive classmate going forward.
It's how the NHS is kept running IME. Paper masks negate the need for SI.

Dahlietta · 22/02/2021 14:42

The TES is reporting that ‘political journalists’ have been informed that all schools will open to all pupils on the 8th of March.

Unmellowbirds · 22/02/2021 14:47

@withlotsoflove
In my entirely unqualified rules, I presume under the rules as they appear to be anticipated that it wouldn't be possible until indoor hairdressing is permitted as outdoor meet ups are still supposed to be socially distanced.

Unless your hairdresser has arms like Mr Tickle or a 2m long brush.

MH1111 · 22/02/2021 14:47

Teaching unions are a disgrace to their profession demanding a phased return and opposing all children back on the 8th.
Contemptible and disgusting, i hope teachers revolt in their droves and put children first

Unmellowbirds · 22/02/2021 14:47

Opinion. Not rules.

See what two months of lockdown has done - rules on the brain!!

RedGoldAndGreene · 22/02/2021 14:51

Peston is usually correct on early leaks

Looks like the plans are now leaked.
Unmellowbirds · 22/02/2021 14:52

I think my DD would go to school in a diving helmet and gas mask if that was the only way to get back in.

With shielding extended until 31st March some schools won't have enough teachers. What do schools do then?
Mythymist · 22/02/2021 14:54

Hopefully that's true about masks.

AllDoneIn · 22/02/2021 14:57

I did think about making some reasoned responses to the people shitting all over teachers and unions but I've done it so many times I've lost the energy. I'm leaving at Easter and so sorry for colleagues who are continuing to slog on in the face of this wall of hatred and misinformation. So if you're STILL crapping all over teachers at this stage of the game you're such a tool you're beyond all reason. I don't give a fuck anymore because I'm out. Do one, haters. And finally putting pupils in masks - about a year too late but better late than never, lads.

What is 'contemptible and disgusting' about unions (9 of the major unions, not just the 'disgraceful' teaching ones) wanting staff (and children) to be safe and to guard against the sort of disruption to education of repeated closures and isolations we had before Christmas?
studychick81 · 22/02/2021 14:57

@Mythymist

What’s the magic bullet that will fix it all in 2022 if the vaccines aren’t it?

Low community transmission & aggressive test and tracing. As has been said all along.

When we are still at 9k cases per day, it's too soon to open up.

I don't understand the view point that we shouldn't open up because of the number of cases. A tiny minority of those people will die or be omitted to hospital. Even less now we have the vaccination. We are not going to be able to stay in lockdown until there are 0 cases. It's just not realistic. We can't stay in lockdown on the off chance it might mutate or xy or z might happen. Most people get no or mild symptoms- are we seriously going to lockdown permanently for this at the expense of so many other things.
CallmeAngelina · 22/02/2021 14:58

@AllDoneIn. Sorry to hear that.
I don't blame you, however. Good luck with it all.

Mythymist · 22/02/2021 14:59

I don't understand the view point that we shouldn't open up because of the number of cases.

Because of the potential for mutations.
