@Defaultname

SimonT said "More people in Germany have had both doses if the vaccine compared to the UK, 6% have had both vaccines".

I was never great shakes at maths, but doesn't it mean that 94% of Germans are facing tomorrow with no vaccine protection?

One inoculation seems to protect people, for the time, from hospitalisation and death. You seem almost to wish that it didn't.

I don’t know how many people are in the three week break between vaccine one and two. Might have a quick google to see if there is any data available.

Not sure who you meant to tag in the last paragraph.

Why aren't more people being vaccinated?
Some days only 200,000. Some days 600,000.

“Supply is limiting factor”

Yes, this.
Husband CEV, our surgery (in NW) told him that they would be starting his group today, subject to supply where they had had “some issues” Hoping for the call all day but nothing yet.
This leaves us a dilemma. Son, himself CV, will be required to return to College, Y13, on 8th when as we understand it online provision will cease. He has been wfh for over a year now to protect dad. He is desperate to get back because he is obviously worried about how missing out on 3 further weeks of full timetable teaching, having to do what he can independently with occasional access to his tutors, will affect his A level grade (however the hell they decide that will be arrived at). This lockdown is the first time in the whole year that he’s been on a level playing field with his peers and it’s made a great difference to the quality of his learning.

After Easter, dad will have been vaccinated with his first jab and have good protection after the 3 week delay. Good possibility that at 56, I’ll have been jabbed too and hopefully our son (though the surgery were extremely non committal about where an 18 year old taking daily meds for asthma stands: I don’t think they know!)

So, stuck in the middle. After over a year of extreme caution, potentially risking it for 12 days’ teaching is insane. The guilt though about asking our son to sacrifice even more is intense. He has already told me that dad is “obviously” his priority.

I imagine there are many families in the same dry difficult situation atm.

nevernotstruggling · 22/02/2021 20:27

What does that mean the start of the end of the uk?

DenisetheMenace · 22/02/2021 20:36

Very, not dry.

Boy, I’m far from dry these days 🍷

When were foreign holidays not allowed?”

If you are in the UK, since 26th Dec I believe. Essential travel only.

pollymere · 22/02/2021 20:41

They obviously haven't realised that both students and teachers need haircuts...

Xenia · 22/02/2021 20:45

And in London form 19 Dec as we had a lock down earl, ier and the state stole Christmas from us. That was when weddings were entirely banned- they are back on with 4 guests only from about 8 March.

I know right

Germany open hairdressers a week before other things. Much more logical.

With today’s fantastic figures from both the PH Scotland and PH England studies, I think we can relax a bit about the the gap between the two doses.
The figures are incredible, way beyond anything we could have reasonably hoped for after just one dose.
I imagine elderly and vulnerable people who have been vaccinated in the UK are feeling considerably more relaxed than their German counterparts this evening.

(MIL is German, love Germany, I’m a Remoaner”. This time, though, the UK (NHS and public sector workers, not the Govt. which still seems intent on ballsing it up) got it right. EU, initially at least, backed the wrong horse)

I know they are. My sil and bil are beside themselves with envy because we’ve had ours and we’re ten years younger than them. It didn’t help when the bloke said “Well, if you hadn’t decided to live in Germany ....”

Dontknowanymore2 · 22/02/2021 21:11

We have her if we were childminding but not otherwise. Apparently can meet outside end of march, seems crazy to me she went back to nursery today with several adults all from their families not to mention all the children. But can't be with us a household of two mixing with no one else crazy. By the time we can meet inside may!! Restaurant and pubs etc open indoors. Hardly seems fair I don't think they are comparable.

Carriecakes80 · 22/02/2021 23:50

Sorry, but a whole lot of it was indeed caused by schools, kids getting it, passing it to teachers, five teachers down in the secondary school my son works in in one week before Christmas, one still having massive troubles walking bless her.

How is this phased ffs....I agree and reckon lockdown 4 will be end of may.
This wont work...hospitals still have way too many cases to deal with, and once the kids start bringing it all back home again, a huge flare up.

And God do I miss my kids seeing their mates, but no-one needs another lockdown...I hope I'm wrong.

QueenPaw · 23/02/2021 01:13

@DenisetheMenace have you tried booking online if there's a hub or centre near you? I'm NW, CEV and had mine. Booked online for a local vaccine centre

Tzimi · 23/02/2021 04:50

There are two things I'm really in need of, getting a haircut & returning to my gym. Looks like both of these won't be till April, unfortunately..

Dontknowanymore2 · 23/02/2021 08:37

I don't believe the death rate numbers at all from covid. These are numbers of people who died within 28 days of a positive test. They died With covid not necessarily Of covid. That's very different we should have been told the actual covid deaths long ago. As for giving it three months before we are in lock down again 🤣 I don't think do at all I'm sure very few people will do it again!

Yes, he tried yesterday, thank you. It wouldn’t let him in and that he will be contacted by his surgery. They’ve said it should be this week, depending on supply but no call yet🤞
MIL in Cornwall is 87 and was only given hers two weeks ago (though they came to her house). My mum in Somerset is 81 and had hers in early January, stepdad 74 just a couple of weeks later. 🤷‍♀️

FrankieAlicemum · 23/02/2021 11:09

17th May, earliest.

Yes, I have wondered about this as well. I'm not sure why they would want to exaggerate the number of Covid deaths, can you think of any reasons?
userxx · 23/02/2021 12:16

@Tzimi To keep people petrified and compliant. It's worked.

So now with the vaccination campaign & the easing of lockdown, the powers that be will be seen as having won the battle..

Parker231 · 23/02/2021 12:35

Doctors are entering’with Covid’ in death certificates as it can be one of many conditions people have died from. My friend died of a heart attack but it was Covid which caused it. Both reasons were on his death certificate.

^I find it strange that the Government are considering people to have been vaccinated when they have had their first dose.

Surely the second dose is what "seals the deal" so to speak?^

Yesterday figures were released stating that ONE DOSE of the Pfizer or Astra Zenica vaccine reduces chances of hospitalisation by 81% and 94% respectively, so to all intents and purposes compared to someone who hasn't had their first jab, "YES", those people have been vaccinated, yes, there is still the 'top-up' from the second jab but even if that second dose take you all the way to 100%, it's only giving an extra 19 or 6%, so doing the maths or even just knowing the size of the numbers, 81% (1st dose) is bigger than 19% (2nd dose) and absolutely FAR bigger/better than 0% from not having it!

wanderings · 23/02/2021 19:17

@userxx Exactly. They’re deliberately making the death numbers looks worse than they are, to keep the public terrified. I’m sure that when our backs are turned, they will quietly redefine a “COVID death”, so they can say “Looooooooooooook!! The numbers really are going down!!!!!!”
