How many people do you know that have lost their jobs since COVID?

For me it is about 5-6 people. And many others who have seen a huge loss of income so they are on the bring of losing their business.

To think we could see a lot of restaurants , pubs, hairdressers and other businesses not reopen due to lack of funding.

Has COVID impacted your job?

So many, about 500 in my company alone.
Approx 10 within my family/friend circle. Devastating.

DenisetheMenace · 13/02/2021 12:06

Thankfully, none so far. We don’t have a huge circle of friends though.

Figgygal · 13/02/2021 12:08

Personally 1
Professionally hundreds

Popsy321 · 13/02/2021 12:08

No one. HR, insurance, senior exec, nhs, teachers, bar staff (work on the takeaway side now), finance....all still in their jobs.

OllysArmy · 13/02/2021 12:09

Too many, and I don’t think I am aware of everyone’s position, nor do 8 think that we are near the end.

WeDontTalkAboutLove · 13/02/2021 12:10

1 that I know of.

ProfYaffle · 13/02/2021 12:11

None so far.

My business ceased last year, event florist. I know of 4 who have lost jobs. Two have lost businesses. A few been on furlough pretty much the entire time with a brief return in September who are expecting redundancy in coming weeks. Three local village pubs have gone and my husband does some works for several small commercial landlords and he is very busy changing locks and clearing businesses and shops who have gone in recent months and weeks sadly. Devastating for so many.

rosierose10 · 13/02/2021 12:12

None. Mine and everyone I knows job hasn't been affected thankfully.

fingersdoublecrossed · 13/02/2021 12:14

We lost our business, so everyone we employed.

Don't really know of anyone else but lots of my friends seem to be turning to MLMs so I'm guessing many are struggling but not really talking about it.

OppsUpsSide · 13/02/2021 12:16

No one.

Covetthee · 13/02/2021 12:18

Apart from myself no-one, it’s great to see everyone I love not having to worry about their income, they are all in secure jobs.

Although I do feel a sad (for myself) to see some are actually doing so much better financially than before covid and don’t seem to realise not everyone has been lucky.

They all thought i was having a jolly good time when i was furloghed, but As I worked in the travel industry i knew my days were numbered

the80sweregreat · 13/02/2021 12:18

One friend has wound up her little business as it's just not worth them trying to continue.
Another has taken years to build up her one and is struggling as she can't open. She is having to borrow from family. She hopes to start up again, but when who knows?
Another person I know was made redundant last year and can't find a job. On UC which isn't much.
Family member couldn't claim anything as they had savings and as self employed he was one of those who fell through the cracks for any money. Her dh is working now , but the deposit towards buying their own home has gone I would think.
Friends son is a cabbie in London and struggling. Lack of workers out and about and no tourists.
The ones I know wfh are faring better.
I feel for those in hospitality , even with furlough money it must be hard and not knowing if places will open again or when?

DinosaurDiana · 13/02/2021 12:19

None.

hilariousnamehere · 13/02/2021 12:20

Two, and I'm still waiting to see the impact on a lot of small businesses which make up the majority of people I know.

TheySeeHerRowling · 13/02/2021 12:20

I live in a tourist town and personally know 6 people who stand to lose their businesses if they can't reopen for the season at Easter.

Obviously there are many more I don't know too.

MrsPotatoHead2021 · 13/02/2021 12:20

None at all in my friends and family. Some people were furloughed in lockdown 1 but no one is furloughed now and no one has last their jobs. Mix of public and private sector with a wide range of jobs.

MrsPotatoHead2021 · 13/02/2021 12:20

Lost not last

Lieinrequired · 13/02/2021 12:20

I know of 100s. The music industry and theatres might never recover. If bands can’t get back to touring soon, festivals in summer, and theatres able to have full capacity audiences, the people who work to make these happen with have to get other jobs and will therefore be lost to the industry.

WonkyCactus · 13/02/2021 12:21

Just one person.

2pinkginsplease · 13/02/2021 12:24

Just me. Lost it on the 31st December and thankfully managed to secure another job a fortnight later. I start this week! 🎉

PivotPivotPivottt · 13/02/2021 12:24

One. I've had two jobs fall through myself due to covid. Been unemployed for years and finally had an excellent opportunity which fell through last March. I then got another job offer to start in November but my background checks took too long to come through as the background checking company have to priorities NHS jobs. I was told I could start with the next intake in January but that got cancelled too.

DBML · 13/02/2021 12:24

I’m thankful to be able to say 0.

PivotPivotPivottt · 13/02/2021 12:25

I mean I know one other person who has lost their job I wasn't talking about myself in my last post.

SpnBaby1967 · 13/02/2021 12:25

5 including my younger brother & older sister. Brother was in hospitality & sister worked for Arcadia. The rest were small business owners who have had to fold.
