@Torvean I'm in Scotland too. Got a blue letter and called to cancel, and was advised that my records would be updated as "received 2 doses in a stage 3 trial"
We can now access a vaccination record here: www.nhsinform.scot/covid19status

But mine says I've not had any doses. 😭
Coincidentally was at gp for something else and was told by the nurse that the vaccine record wouldn't be updated by them....

Torvean · 19/05/2021 18:30

Hi @NotMrsTumble. Thank you for that. I think I must have thrown out my appt letter and I need the code to register. I'll try calling them again tomorrow.

andadietcoke · 19/05/2021 23:57

I wonder if we'll have the opportunity to participate in the cov-boost trial. It's involving Novavax and Stockport is mentioned as a trial site. I guess they'd have to unblind us though as it says December / January for the first doses whereas for us it would surely be earlier than that.

Torvean · 20/05/2021 00:27

We can't. It's for ppl that had their first vaccine in Decemr 2020/Jan 2021.

I notice they've only allocated one study to Scotland. London alone gets 3.

1200 ish ppl applied for the Novavax vaccine. Over 4 times the available places. We have done 2 vaccine trials currently Valneva and a vaccine I can't remember the name of.

I'm wondering if my dad might be able to it says Devon and Exeter. If it was Plymouth it would be perfect.

andadietcoke · 20/05/2021 07:34

@Torvean but as far as I'm aware no one had Novavax in December / January? So I assumed that was a sweeping statement. No one had Valneva then either.

In terms of trial locations trials apply to take part - they're not allocated.

I assumed that although novavax is being used as the booster shot they want people who had Pfizer/Az as their first shots as that applies to the vast majority of the population and we’re outliers

Reassuring that there is sufficient confidence in novavax to use it for this though

Ah @Frazzled2207 that makes sense. Especially if they're about to come into 60m doses of it! Yes definitely encouraging.

Frazzled2207 · 20/05/2021 08:28

I’m going to ask my dad if he fancies it (two shots of Pfizer)

I assumed by this that they mean they want a lot of elderly available. It says specifically AZ participants are joining.

I couldn't apply if I lived in Aberdeen as the only site in Scotland is Glasgow.
However I plan to move to 1 of 2 places. It won't be till Sep/ October. I might be close to a study base. But I maybe too late to apply then.

Frazzled2207 · 20/05/2021 09:56

ok so anyone concerned about the vaccine passports situation please email Sarah at the guardian today as she's running a story.
[email protected]

I have emailed her this morning and already got a response from her so she's taking it pretty seriously. She says she's going to quote me (I've asked not to be named though).

On top of this, have just been told underwriters of an enhanced Covid-19 travel policy will not accept Covid-19 trial vaccines.
The injustice of it all. How where vaccines achieved for those who do qualify with their NHS vaccines!

I've also spoken to Sarah. I'm happy to be named, but I have tried to stress that if this is all resolved quickly, and in line with what has been promised, everyone will be happy, it's just the uncertainty at the moment. I am also concerned about implications for travel if novavax isn't approved. Didn't know about insurance complications at that point though!!

I agree - i think in practice it could all end up being ok it's the uncertainty which is bloody stressful. I am booked to go to Spain in August and tbh there are a thousand reasons right now why it looks like we won't be going - having to test the kids and the cost of that, IF it ends up being a green country is the likely sticking point. But if it ends up being basically because of this I'll be extremely cross.

This just in from Bradford re booster trial bit.ly/3yp9CK3

WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 20/05/2021 11:23

I have a holiday booked for August rolled forward from last year. I am not assuming we will go, and have been fairly relaxed about it being cancelled. But if my parents and siblings are able to go because they are vaccinated, and we can't travel because I volunteered for a vaccine trial in good faith (or have to pay £££ for PCR tests), and I can't get my money back, I will be really disappointed.

CardinalCat · 20/05/2021 12:09

I'm in Scotland too! Thanks for that link @NotMrsTumble.
I've entered my details and it's showing that I've not had a vaccine. When my blue letter came through I called the helpline and was assured that they would take a file note which detailed that I was in a crossover trial and to contact my GP for details. However they've obviously not got to that stage yet. I'm now really starting to regret taking part in this trial if we are going to lag behind on record keeping (and if insurers will only accept deployed vaccines then that means no holidays for us until novavax is approved!) I might tweet Zahawi as he is also on a trial and seems extremely responsive and on the ball.

WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 20/05/2021 12:22

Yes, I agree CardinalCat. I was and am happy to do my bit to help, but if I'd known there was going to be a disadvantage of this nature, I'd have requested that I be unblinded in March as then if I'd had the placebo I could have had an approved vaccine. I believed at the time that staying in the crossover trial was the right thing to do. The insurance thing is infuriating, if true - I realise that isn't Novavax's fault, though.

Ragdoll4 · 20/05/2021 13:20

Working my way through list of travel insurers who firstly give me the cover I want. Just found 1st that doesn’t ask about vaccine. Will be spending hours comparing.

Ragdoll4 · 20/05/2021 13:24

May be easier for others. I need insurance for existing medical problems. All infuriating and time wasting for me that my existing insurance doesn’t give me the Covid-19 cover with trial vaccine.

Ragdoll4 · 20/05/2021 13:46

Novavax vaccine trial part 2
Frazzled2207 · 20/05/2021 14:12

@Ragdoll4

"anyone that's taken part in a medical trial in the last 2 years" is a pretty huge range of people. That's insane. Hopefully there will be other insurers willing to help out. Insurance for those with preexisting conditions like me is always a bit of a nightmare anyway. Obviously Brexit etc doesn't help.

WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 20/05/2021 14:21

I do think if that is the case, they will be forced to reconsider. That would really be a scandal if anyone who has volunteered for vaccine trials was unable to get insurance. They wouldn't have a viable business selling insurance if no one was prepared to be a volunteer as we'd all be in lockdown forever!

who would be forced to reconsider though? Insurers can pick and choose who they insure. The vast majority of people didn't take part in a vaccine trial so it's not likely to reduce their target audience much.

However I struggle to believe that all insurers would do this. It is probably a case of shopping around and unfortunately yet more hassle.
