Have just had the call and am going tomorrow. Very excited. Anyone else doing this?

I'm not allowed to take part for health reasons. My NHS trust is one of the sites trialling this vaccine so I am following this closely. Good luck!

Yep I'm registered for this. Went for a screening visit last week and got the vaccination while I was there. Could be the placebo tho!

Already on it, get my second dose next Wednesday.

Brilliant! Is there anything I should know before tomorrow? Anything unpleasant?

It was all fairly straightforward. A few cups of tea, weight, height, blood pressure and a blood test. Then they did the vaccine injection. It was a bit sore for a day or so but nothing out of the ordinary xx good luck xx

Great. I’d be disappointed to get a placebo but it’s still important for the science though isn’t it

I'm going on Tue 20th.

I wasn't expecting to get the vaccine/placebo there and then. I thought they had to check your immunity and do a covid test first.
Am I wrong, or did you do that?

I was a surprised but yes - they did an antibody blood test and then the vaccine on the day. They unblind the trial at the end so you don't find out which you got til then. BUT they did say that you would get the vaccination early if you got the placebo as a bonus for taking part.

Biscuits, a pen, a cuppa, a thermometer and a ruler! And three tests for if you get symptoms. I've got a top up vaccine in 3 weeks x

I got my vaccination/placebo at my first appointment. They did a Covid test and a blood test but didn’t get the results on the day. Got the Covid test results about 4 days later, no idea on the blood tests.

@GreenPlum
i was told that unless there was an issue that hadn't previously come to light i would get it on the spot

I had mine yesterday. Also all in one go. Chat about the trial and the vaccine and COVID, then discussion of medical history, physical examination, obs. Then blood test and Covid test. Then injection and instructions on how to use the app to record any side effects.

400-600 people taking part from around 20 hospitals in the UK I’m told. I live very close to 1 which is probably a reason I was invited.

Yes, I think it's about 10,000 across the UK which would be 500 from 20 hospitals. I think ours is 600.

I clicked on something a while ago to say I'd be interested in taking part in a trial. I think it was on the Covid-19 Zoe app.

Then I had an email and a questionnaire followed by another email inviting me to call and arrange an appointment.

In the states they're getting 450$ for this study. I mean im happy to take part. £450 would have been very handy though.

@GreenPlum
They do do a Covid test (no result yet) and a blood test for antibodies but neither affect your ability to get the jab done.

I think most U.S studies pay. I mean men can pay their rent by donating 2 seperate body fluids. They're not so interested in some womens bodily fluids Wink

Free biscuits sound good to me too.

I dont mind blood tests/ vaccines.
It's the swabs I'm not keen on. I don't have tonsils , will they still do a throat swab?

Report
GreenPlum · 14/10/2020 07:52

My DD had tonsils removed years ago but they still did throat swab in a covid test when she had symptoms in July (not during vaccine trial).
