A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

I don't have any plans to travel for a couple of months (and at that point, who knows...) but I have assumed all the way through that the "no disadvantage" principle would apply to us. Reading this makes me less confident that is the case. I'd be very upset if travel was possible and I wasn't able to go because I volunteered to take part in the trial. I still have some faith it will be sorted soon(ish).

Vargas · 17/05/2021 17:43

So my GP has confirmed that they have my vaccination details and I now have my NHS app up and running, but the app says 'We could not find your vaccination details' which is disappointing. So I'm going to leave it for a week or so and then email the trial team. We are not planning to travel abroad until August, so there's no massive rush, plus the certificate will probably be fine (she says hopefully...).
I might get DH's app set up and see what his says as he has had one AZ dose so far and has the same GP...

BG2015 · 17/05/2021 21:05

My DP NHS app states his Pfizer vaccinations and dates.

Mine says nothing. I think I'd have to push my GP to add it. They've got a letter stating dates etc

I'm travelling in August too so it may mean I'll need a test if they won't accept the vaccine

Dreamer1989 · 17/05/2021 22:30

I emailed a scan of the certificate to my drs, nothing on the app yet. I wont be travelling overseas but I’d still like to see it registered on the app!

Torvean · 17/05/2021 23:59

We don't even have an app yet as apparently the Scottish govt haven't decided who will hold our data. I mean they've had months to work on it but nothing.

Does anyone know why ppl in the States are being unblinded by Novovax over the next 3 weeks and we still stay blind??

On an informative note I was reading a bmj article about Covid in India.

This link came up to a zoom session which will be discussing vaccine passports. You don't need proof of registration or anything. Afterwards it should be posted on YouTube.

Here's the link

Oh if anyone missed it from FB Novovax are aiming for approval between July-Sep.. That's from interview with the CEO of Novavax.
I read that MRHAZ have all the UK data know. That will take 25 days to go through. So it would fit with July approval.

I don't need any official documentation right now. But I may email my local mp to raise the issue.

It's the researchers that are unblinding, not the participants.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 18/05/2021 07:59

Bloody hell! How do you get something bold? I can never get it to work! It looked bold on my screen!

Ragdoll4 · 18/05/2021 11:13

Ironically @Torvean at trial visit in March overhead reply to question when approval would happen. July and Autumn were mentioned. Possibly the plan all along, but Novavax protecting commercial interests.
I mentioned myself that ultimately I will raise our dilemma with my MP. Question of disadvantage and equality. Will wait a while though as I think an effort is being made to resolve this.

I agree with you. The reason I'm going to write to mibd is Scotlands lack of decision to who is going to collect our vaccine data. Scotland neantioned a digital passport first yet no sign. So all we have is a certificate. And as there's only 2 study sites here I don't know if the MPs will aware. So it needs to be raised with Scottish govt. Sadly I've only managed to find 2 Glasgow participants who might help.

I knew it was the researchers doing it. I'd just like to know why they're unblinding them after 5 months. And we are made to wait 12/13 months.
andadietcoke · 18/05/2021 14:57

And there we all were thinking we'd have nothing to talk about until we got back together for our unblinding reunion

Frazzled2207 · 18/05/2021 15:32

@andadietcoke
i shall have to set up thread three soon!!!!

I have just emailed dr baxter again. Saying I hear on social media that plans are afoot which is all very well but I really need timescales or I'll have to consider getting a vaccine via the NHS. All sorts of reasons why I don't want to go down that route.

Torvean I'm not sure when the UK researchers are unblinding. Does it matter? How will it affect us? (Genuine question, not rhetorical or sarcasm!)

andadietcoke · 18/05/2021 17:21

@Frazzled2207 'next few weeks'!!!!

Frazzled2207 · 18/05/2021 19:09

thanks @andadietcoke
tbh the latest update on the NIHR website (posted above) does look to be quite reassuring, especially the bit under passports. I am pretty shocked that our trial people don't seem to know any more than this though. Someone on the fb group in Bradford seems to have had a fairly informative and reassuring chat with the lead doctor today who clearly knows a bit more than Dr Baxter.

this bit it reassuring
Vaccines not yet licenced are recorded as 'generic COVID vaccines' on the NHS system. We expect this will be recognised by all countries that require evidence of vaccination before entry.

@Torvean
unfortunately I have no idea if your trial comes under the NIHR being in Scotland. Hopefully the same applies to you too.

Basically I feel Novovax have treated US participants very differently to us. It frankly pisses me off that they're getting paid $300 per visit. They've cheated by using antibody tests. They all had a fit over no news on the EUA. When they've only been in tbe study less than 5 months. So they've gone and got alternative vaccines which should end their participation. But now some clause says they can still stay in and now they'll get more money again.

I asked once if this trial was not for any money would you all still do it???? They all said yes. Its proven by some of their actions that's untrue.

Back to blinding we are all in a stage 3 trial. Why are the rules different for them?

Sorry I went on a tangent there after being on the fb page.

Frazzled2207 · 18/05/2021 19:37

@Torvean
I agree that the attitude seems to be completely different. They are all being paid yet taking antibody tests hence unblinded themselves. And now they'r basically slacking it off and going to get Pfizer...and still being paid.
All this should hopefully lead to the UK data being a lot more 'sound' at the end of the day.
They do seem to be in a worse situation than us wrt possibly foreign travel though. But being paid to do it changes the dynamic entirely.

OP posts:
Torvean · 18/05/2021 19:46

Yep. I remember one person mentioning that they got 30$ as they had to change their appt.

And they must know their wrong in doing antibody tests. They have a rule in the antibody thread that you can't shame anyone that's done it.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 18/05/2021 20:19

From what I've seen on the fb group, the US trial is a total mess. It highlights perfectly the argument against payment for the trial. It undoubtedly alters their motivation for enrolling in a clinical study.

lisalandry · 18/05/2021 21:44

@Torvean I'm in Glasgow. I've been unsure of the situation here as to be honest I've lost track of what's happening with vaccine passports and what the consequences might be of not having one. I'm not planning any foreign travel but don't want to end up disadvantaged in any way because trial participants are overlooked. What's the best course of action - do we need to write to our MSPs and ask them to ensure trial participants are treated the same as NHS vaccinated people?

WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 18/05/2021 22:34

I just received an email from Kings. Not enormously enlightening in and of itself but with a link to a very useful document from the NIHR which has lots of info on vaccine passport status etc. That gives me confidence it’s in hand.

Torvean · 19/05/2021 01:09

Hi @lisalandry I'm so excited there's another Scottish person here.
Yes you've summed it up.
I'm going to ask when Scotland will decide on what proof is going to be used for vaccination. England have a working app.
Then a bit of us not being disadvantaged in comparison to those who waited for nhs vaccine.

lisalandry · 19/05/2021 09:45

@Torvean good plan, I'll do the same.
