A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

@Frazzled2207
Go ahead! The email from the Team carried on to say to get your GPa to call them if they are uncertain about this process. We are in London, but surely the system should be the same across the country.

  1. nothing
  2. nothing
  3. nothing
  4. painful injection, felt 'not right' about about 6 hours later - shivery, spaced-out, fatigue (napped a lot). Gradally felt better after about 30 hours, sore arm for about 4 days.

I've been getting the same emails from Stockport study centre. It must be a good sign that they are trying to keep us updated with what's going on. No holidays on the horizon for me, but I can imagine it's stressful if you wanted to go away this summer. I keep thinking of the phrase, "You will not be at a disadvantage by staying in the trial" - I really hope not.

Update on NIHR website as of today, posted below

You'll be aware from reports in the media that there could be plans for Covid-status certification (sometimes referred to as 'vaccine passports'). These would allow an individual to demonstrate that they have been vaccinated, tested or have natural immunity. This could be used to give them access to certain places or events like concerts or football matches, or with the agreement of other countries, to travel internationally. The review is ongoing and no final decision on whether domestic certification will go ahead has been confirmed at the time of writing (13 May).

We are in discussions with the Government about the inclusion of all trial participants who have received an active vaccine to be included in this. This would mean if you were on the Novavax or Janssen trial, and had received a cross-over vaccine, or been unblinded and had had an active vaccine, you would be included. There is no need for you to take any action at this stage or to request unblinding. We are working on a system so that all the information from the trial team about whether you had received a cross-over vaccine, or been unblinded and had an active vaccine, will flow through automatically. We are very keen to make sure trial participants are not disadvantaged and to reduce the need for participants to request unblinding. We will issue further information on the Be Part of Research website as soon as there are further developments.

Excellent! Concise and from a trustworthy source. Thanks Frazzled. xx

andadietcoke · 13/05/2021 21:54

@Frazzled2207 do you have a link? I can't find it on their website at all.

Frazzled2207 · 13/05/2021 21:56

It’s in the depths of this

Thank you!!! That's my favourite update so far! And also feels like if there's no movement in a month or so someone somewhere might be able to help manually

Frazzled2207 · 13/05/2021 22:48

I feel there will be clear progress by the end of the month.

I think we’re lucky in that the NIHR is the direct link (I think) between our trials and the government. Hence there will be a “joined up” approach, I hope. Meanwhile in the US I think the arrangements are directly between the study centres and novavax itself. So no one body to sort this out.

This was the reply I got from my study centre. And as I don't know anyone else is Scotland I have noone to compare with.

There currently is not a system in place for Scotland for a centralised system as proof of vaccination, so we will know more in due course. It may not be through GP practices as not everyone has been vaccinated via GP, such as healthcare workers and people in trials.

In the meantime, if your surgery requires to see the certificate as evidence of vaccination you should be able to send them a photo via email. They were informed of your participation in this trial back when we started.

Not helpful at all.

Thank you so much for this. I’m on the Janssen trial and had the trial vaccine. We’ve not really had much information about how things will work out.
Frazzled2207 · 14/05/2021 08:18

@JustMeAndWheatley

Hello! I guess you guys are in a similar boat? That said for travelling abroad it should be a better boat to be in because at least Janssen is approved in the EU I believe. We have no date for novavax currently having been assured it would be in the spring.
I am intrigued why the above text does not mention Valneva which are at an earlier stage- recruiting now for stage 3 I think. Unless they have clarity it won’t help the recruitment process don’t think! As of last week I think it was on hold because they’re targeting young people and giving some valneva and some Az and the latter part is suddenly more complicated.

@Torvean
That is rubbish but atm at least not discriminated against compared with other Scots. Similarly my parents are double vaccinated (Pfizer) and in Wales and there is no hint of any kind of proof plan there. They just have atm a particularly flimsy looking card.

JustMeAndWheatley · 14/05/2021 08:47

I have a letter from the clinical lead doctor with the date and batch number and saying that the letter should be accepted as proof of vaccination, but who knows if anyone will accept it in practice. On the NHS app it doesn’t show that I’ve been vaccinated, and I’m still getting the daily texts telling me to book a vaccine.

Woventabby · 14/05/2021 08:53

Excellent. Thank you. Frazzled.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 14/05/2021 09:15

Does anybody know how this vaccine passport will work in practice?

All I've heard is that our vaccines will be on the NHS Covid-19 app. I'm expecting it to appear on that like magic on Monday 17th May. Having sent my A4 card to my GP, in theory, I should be included. (I'm not holding my breath!) My daughter certainly should be having had two AZ jabs. But what about my father who has had two Pfizer jabs but no smart phone?

How will we be let in to a country? Just flash the app at immigration?

Frazzled2207 · 14/05/2021 09:22

@PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears
I have def heard that there will be a non-smartphone version. Apparently can be sent to you by calling 119. Possibly not yet though.

Tbh sounds like worthwhile getting as my phone always runs out of battery at the wrong moment!

Monkeygirl68 · 14/05/2021 09:33

I sent a copy of my vaccination certificate to my GP on Monday, but nothing showing on the app at all 🤷🏼‍♀️

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 14/05/2021 10:02

I gather the vaccine passport element on the app will be going live on Monday.

andadietcoke · 14/05/2021 10:48

@PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears I think it's the normal NHS app not the covid-19 one.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 14/05/2021 10:56

Ah ok. Thanks

Frazzled2207 · 14/05/2021 11:00

Our centre (stockport) has sent an email this morning basically with the NIHR link that I posted last night. Surprised that we are basically ahead of them with info.

Torvean · 14/05/2021 11:02

Some ppl are saying the NHS app. Some the MYGp one.

Monkeygirl68 · 14/05/2021 11:14

People I know who have had the AZ NHS vaccine can see their registered doses on the NHS app and the GP my health app, as evidence of vaccination. Funnily enough it came under ‘medications’ and not ‘immunisations’, which I thought it would.
