A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

Dh (who had AZ ) has his under the ‘consultations and events’ section of the app.

Frazzled2207 · 14/05/2021 11:44

@Torvean

Some ppl are saying the NHS app. Some the MYGp one.
The way I understand it the nhs app is going to be the “official” way but my gp might also show. It’s not however been agreed with any countries yet that that this method will “let you in”.

I have been following this thread because my DD is part of Novoavax trial so I have been feeding back information to her!

I have just been on the NHS app now (not the covid one) and there is a new Covid-19 vaccine record that wasn't there a few days ago.

Just thought I'd mention it!

ItsSnowJokes · 14/05/2021 15:59

This is what I get on mine. I gave my gp the Novavax cert over a week ago.

Novavax vaccine trial part 2
WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 14/05/2021 16:00

I keep getting text messages telling me to book my vaccine, and today got a letter from the NHS. So called the GP who looked and said they have received notification I am in the trial, but nothing else since then to confirm my status. The receptionist said if I bring the certificate to the surgery they will update the records and then the app will update in turn. Frustrating the paperwork isn't going through the way I was told it would but not the end of the world.

QueenAnnesHat · 14/05/2021 16:05

So I had a phone call from my GP in response to the last of my emails. He has fixed my immunisations record, which now shows my two vaccinations on the correct dates. He explained that as Novavax has not yet been approved, it's not available as an option for him to record on my record. However, he said that this should not matter (a friend who has been vaccinated through the NHS has no other details on her record) and that eventually this information will be pulled down into my GP record from the main NHS Pinnacle system - it's just not a priority at the moment. Booster shots are more likely to be given to priority groups at a fixed point in time, rather than, say, one year after initial vaccination, so this will also not make a difference.
I feel better about all this now, but disappointed at the lack of communication from the trial team, particularly as some centres seem to be more proactive than others.

Torvean · 14/05/2021 16:18

I just got rejected from the MY GP app as apparently my middle name wasn't on my medical records...I waited 5 days for that.

My gp also has nothing on my record but they've said if I email in a photo of my vaccination certificate they'll add it to my records. Everything in Scitland is made bloody awkward.

same here with the text and letters. If the practice gets a certificate can they make them stop? I suppose I'm slightly wary of being struck off the 'needs a vaccine' list because in my mind it's not totally impossible that novavax will not be signed off at all in which case I suppose we will have to get another vaccine? Hopefully that's extremely unlikely.

@Frazzled2207. I hat to cancel mine as we get it by letter. I've every faith in Novavax. Or they wouldn't use it in mixed studies.

If a disaster happens we will be eligible for nhs vaccines.

Same here....my app hasn’t been updated either, even though I gave them the cert last week

I've heard several ppl being told they will get a booster at the final appt ( if they got vaccinated last year) along with one last blood test plus being unblinded. I mean some of us first got vaccinated nearly 8 months ago.
Frazzled2207 · 15/05/2021 10:58

@Torvean
Yeah this is what has been suggested to us in Stockport but I don’t think is anywhere near definite. Truth is however that antibodies for those of us vaccinated last autumn could be waning by then.

OP posts:
Monkeygirl68 · 15/05/2021 16:32

They couldn’t commit to any booster vaccination when I went for my last appointment. When I asked the question they told me that ‘everything was up in the air’ and that I would more than likely be invited through the NHS vaccination programme for a booster before having one via the trial (I’m mid 50’s).

Torvean · 15/05/2021 19:46

To be honest I think it's a bit crap if ppl that got their first vaccine in March sometime April who've been 5 months since 2nd vacc get a booster before trial participants who will be close to 11/12 months.

Looks like My Gp might be not for Scotlsnd either. Or my GP surgery is as controlling as Nicola Sturgeon.

That's what they said to me.

Infact the dr even said boosters hadn't been decided yet by the government. Nobody knows.

And with the Indian variant now appearing the race is on to get 2nd vaccinations done!

Frazzled2207 · 17/05/2021 09:20

A lot of general hysteria on the fb group. Clearly people are getting quite anxious. On the nhs app now it shows what brand of vaccine you got which is a bit worrying as I was under the impression it might not say what we had.
I’m still holding out for the “fix” whatever that may be. However what’s most worrying me is that they might decide not to do anything at all.

Surely the second best scenario now is to admit that they can’t put us on a level playing field with the fully (approved) vaccinated, and let us all have two doses of something else ASAP (and agree to speed up second dose if needed). Leaving us all in limbo would be awful and def put me off joining anything like this again for life. Crossing fingers for some kind of plan in next few days.

I find it hard to believe this might happen. I wholeheartedly believed their "participants will not be disadvantaged" rhetoric. How utterly disappointing if they don't sort it out.

User89044 · 17/05/2021 11:57

When will this vaccine get MHRA approval :-( I thought it would have come long before now

Not until Q3 it seems now. They’ve had issues with supply of raw materials for manufacturing and are struggling to get the trial data reporting done. The CEO briefed the market last week that they were moving to Q3 from their anticipated Q2, which is disappointing for all of us.
Frazzled2207 · 17/05/2021 13:43

I'm now a bit worried that novavax will end up missing the boat entirely for at least the middle/high income nations.
It's all going to be about the Indian variant for the next few months I think. Let's hope that it works against the Indian variant but the truth is there may be very little data about this. Countries are going to want the stuff that is proven to work against the Indian variant and it looks like the data regarding Pfizer, AZ etc against the Indian variant is going to be quite forthcoming.

OP posts:
WhyIsMyKitchenSoCold · 17/05/2021 13:43

I would really appreciate more and better central comms. A short email update to everyone once every couple of months with information on participation, boosters etc would be so helpful (even if the answer is “we don’t know) and would surely help with retention in the study.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 17/05/2021 13:54

I fear this might be where see the company's immaturity and lack of experience exposed. It got lucky with a vaccine that worked and had money thrown at it, but that will carry it only so far. I hope I'm wrong. I've got a lot invested in Novavax, vaccine and shares. I'm not planning on a foreign holiday this year, but I feel for those that do and I so desperately wanted it to work out well.

Frazzled2207 · 17/05/2021 14:00

Agree @PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears
As well as not actually getting a vaccine to market before, novavax has clearly struggled with getting production up to scale. Presumably the likes of Pfizer, AZ have those really good relationships with the supply chain already which means that issues can be ironed out more easily.

That all said, I'm still hopeful that it will be very useful longer term as the world will need Billions of vaccines over the next few years.

If it’s any comfort, communication on the Janssen trial is no better.

Frazzled2207 · 17/05/2021 16:17

@JustMeAndWheatley
reassuring to know it's not just us!!!

Meanwhile someone on the fb site has spoken to Leeds trial team today and they have basically confirmed to him that they are trying to come up with a fix for all of us however no timescales still.
