A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

Frazzled, When I was invited for my NHS vaccine I followed the link and declined, giving the reason that I was a participant in a clinical phase 3 trial.

I think our original Novavax paperwork tells us not to have the NHS vaccine but to contact them to discuss unblinding etc. The new paperwork may be different (and you've had two crossover jabs now so defo shouldn't) but they accidentally kept my copy and I didn't bring it home with me so I can't see what it says!

@PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears

Thanks for that - I have just emailed the centre, for reassurance really.

The truth is that theoretically we can travel abroad from 17th May but if we have been vaccinated with an as -yet unapproved vaccine, I can totally imagine that that puts us at a disadvantage. I hope I'm wrong about that. I imagine that once it is approved and hopefully that will be this month it will be sorted out. After all it's likely/hopeful that jabs in arms will start in earnest in June and the government is probably counting on it (and/or J&J) being approved so it has plenty alternatives to AZ for the under 30s.

The truth is I am hoping to go abroad in august, yes there's plenty of time between now and August but in the hopefully unlikely event that I need to get vaccinated with something else I need to do so now to get the 2nd dose in time.

The more concerned emails centres get about this then hopefully that will put the pressure on to sort us out even though I imagine their hands are tied until it gets approved.

Yes, quite right.

I overheard a doctor telling a participant, "Things are in place with the govt for this precise reason. You will not be at a disadvantage." I hope they were right.

Frazzled2207 · 01/05/2021 11:57

Yes I was told similar and I am hopefully worrying unnecessarily. However we are at the “business end” of things now and I think we should be given the detail as soon as they have it. But from what I can tell it’s a closely guarded secret by the government right now.

@Frazzled2207

Sounds rough. Hopefully that really is it now. When I was at my last appointment the nurse told me I didn’t need to record side effects unless I was seriously unwell in which case I should call the on call doc. Only use the app if I actually thought I had covid. That’s wrong isn’t it? They need to know when people have been ill like you have.
We did call the on call number as I was so ill. They took a list of side effects and said if I got worse or it lasted as bad for over 24 hours they would see me and check me over.

I think some of the Americans on the FB are a disgrace. I don't think Novavax is the problem its their employer or travel.
Novavax shouldvhave stuck to only paying those who completed the study. Ad it looks like they're dropping out left,right and centre. And when they say oh it just covers my time and travel. Its $300 per visit even if its only a blood test. They were whinging about one of the original blood tests being cancelled due to the crossover.
As for them doing antibody tests I asked one of the study nurses about that and she thought they were breaking the contract....

I was also told to ignore the app unless I get Covid symptoms. Got 3 new sets of swabs though as the others are apparently out of date.

Frazzled2207 · 01/05/2021 14:50

@Torvean
There are def some interesting characters on there! As previously discussed if you are paying people to do it it takes on a whole different dynamic

So I posted a link to a BBC new article about a prominent anti vaccer who died of Covid, he caused a lot of damage in his country telling ppl to get Covid vacc , tetanus, hpv plus more.

I've had it pulled down as apparently it was contentious to post about someone that died!

Meanwhile anti vaccers have a whoe thread of lies including the swabs giving you cancer and more.

Social media are taking down posts like this. I think mumsnet needs to take responsibility to as the crap those ppl post stop ppl from getting vaccinated.

Total joke....

Torvean · 01/05/2021 18:14

Telling ppl not to get vaccinated..

Torvean · 02/05/2021 04:25

Interesting article on ppl using antibody tests.

Exactly!
If you post this in the group, you'll get chucked out!

Torvean · 02/05/2021 18:47

@PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears

Do you mean posting stuff against anti-vaccers,?

I sent mn a private message querying anti vaccers being allowed to post medical misinformation. I got no reply.

andadietcoke · 02/05/2021 19:05

I'm in a similar holiday situation - Disney 'staycation' cruise which requires adults to be fully vaccinated or they can't board. It's not until the end of July so hoping there will have been temporary authorisation by then, but if not then there's no chance of me having two doses on the normal programme by then.

Sorry, no, I meant the article criticising volunteers who unblind in the US. That Facebook group will hate it!

Frazzled2207 · 02/05/2021 19:39

@andadietcoke
I shall post back any response to my email though with the weekend it would be Tuesday at the earliest.

Thanks @Frazzled2207
I'm sure the answer will be 'we expect the vaccine to receive temporary authorisation in the near future'. I get it, but it's an insane amount of money for the cruise. Still...plenty of time between now and July.

Torvean · 04/05/2021 00:50

I have no travel worries. Some ppl are saying the nhs app will update to show your vaccinated and can be used as proof.

I was really disappointed in my last appt. They had no information.

I didn't ask about passport stuff.
But nothing on boosters at all. And not knowing if the booster had to be Novavax?? And no word on the likely approval date. This feels like a lot longer than it took for Oxford to get from Stage 3 to being available.

If it doesn't get approved we would have to get vaccinated again.

Seem those in the States are in melt down an dropping out. It riles me that they're not finishing the study and they've still been paid a huge amount.
I could really do with the money that they've received.

It's obvious a lot of them did it for money.
They have the advantage that they can get vaccinated at any point.

Still no call for my first in Scotland.

BG2015 · 04/05/2021 06:07

I just can't believe it hasn't been passed and production hasn't started.

I have a holiday booked to Kos for the last 2 weeks of August. It will be hilarious (not really) if we can't go because of me. I know travel is up in the air anyway and we could get a refund/amend - it's a trip booked in 2019! But if we can go I would like to.

My DP has the NHS app and it shows his COVID vaccine on there.

When I go on Thursday for my bloods appointment I shall be asking lots of questions and want to know who can give me answers.

Just hope our generosity of spirit and wish to support medical science in a global pandemic doesn't backfire on us all!

LittleRen · 04/05/2021 06:32

Sorry to interrupt your thread!! I have been invited on another trial and one of the benefits cited was travel... EU have since announce the vaccines they will accept and no way will mine be on there (Valneva).

Something for me to think about I guess..

Frazzled2207 · 04/05/2021 08:18

I’m not sure eu will accept novavax but am hopeful as they are apparently about to sign a big deal to buy it.

It would appear novavax are trying to do a trial for 12-17 year olds in the US which is on theory good but apparently Pfizer are about to get full approval for 12+ in the US and in the trial a third will get a placebo. I can’t see that one being popular sadly. We were trailblazers back in October but I’m worried now about (perhaps literally) being left behind. Hopefully I’m stressing over nothing.

Second crossover jab tomorrow - I'll ask around in Bradford if they have any info on passports etc.

Frazzled2207 · 04/05/2021 19:50

hope it goes well. I suspect there will be no info tbh at least until the government produces info on its passport app which I think should be in the next week or so.

Is this what they're calling it? Weird.

Novavax vaccine trial part 2
Frazzled2207 · 04/05/2021 20:51

I saw that and thought it was odd. I thought it might be what they're planning to call it in India though as they all have different names in India for some complicated reason I can't remember.

OP posts:
Frazzled2207 · 04/05/2021 21:08

sorry ignore me it's called Covavax in India. No idea what that is about.

But on the topic of India they have the potential to manufacture tons of the stuff out there once it gets approved and they arguably need it more than the rest of us. You'd think that would put pressure on the powers that be to speed up approval.
