A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.

I get my 2nd jab tomorrow, pretty excited but emotional. I just hope I get the certificate thing so I can prove I’ve been jabbed.

you def should get a ridiculously impractical a4 thing. I have heard that they are in the process of making us little credit card sized things which would be better. I suspect neither will let us out the country right now but hopefully that will change soon. Hope it goes well. My DH got AZ this morning. Am feeling a bit emotional about that too!

On the fb page there was supposed to be some important call from Novavax today but no word.

They're doing a 6-12 year old study too.
I just don't get the delay.
Scotland are not giving AZ to under 30s so Novavax would be perfect.
Plus India and Brazil are in desperate need.
It feels like they've said it'll be next month since January.
I watched the stage 3 stuff from Oxford it didn't take this long.
I read a comment that said their no planning to release till 2022, but hoping that's just nonsense.

If that was the case we would need vaccinated by an approved vaccine.

MrsHamlet · 05/05/2021 07:45

I'm at Chorley for my last dose. Hope they'll let me do the pregnancy test immediately... I am desperate for a wee!!

MrsHamlet · 05/05/2021 08:53

All done. I've got a cuppa, a biscuit and an A4 piece of card with the details on

Vargas · 05/05/2021 08:55

I had my 2nd crossover yesterday, very nice doc but she had no info on approval or boosters. I have my A4 certificate, and I'm happy to pack it on my next trip despite the size!

I feel absolutely fine today, not even a sore arm, so I feel even more sure that I had the vaccine in October/November.

For those worrying about travel, if there is an issue with having vaccine passport for Novavax surely we can also have a negative PCR test and travel? There will be lots of people who can't take a vaccine so that must be an option for most places surely?

I've seen that Novavax is in the Com-Cov 2 study so that seems like a high likelihood that it will be approved soon.

I joined the FB group but it is too annoying so I've stopped looking...

Frazzled2207 · 05/05/2021 09:13

@vargas yes but we'd have to pay and it would be extra hassle. Which definitely does not fit with the promise that 'you will not be disadvantaged'.

As for @andadietcoke's cruise though, I have heard cruises insist on vaccines entirely. That said if it's just a UK cruise it will be up to the cruise operator on which vaccines to accept, not some burly and intimidating immigration person at a mediterranean airport.

Vargas · 05/05/2021 09:18

@Frazzled2207 yes, I see what you mean. I will need to get my kids tested so no extra hassle for me, but would be an extra expense...hopefully it won't transpire.

Vargas · 05/05/2021 09:19

@MrsHamlet No cuppa or biscuit for me! But the hospital has a Pret a Manger, so that's always my treat afterwards - Grin

indeed I have kids too...I'm kind of hoping kids will be exempt from testing but that might be one hope too far! Tbh it's probably going to be easier to just cancel (again) and try again next year but I'll be very annoyed if it's basically difficult for me because I had the 'wrong' vaccine.

andadietcoke · 05/05/2021 09:38

Yup. For the Disney cruise everyone over 18 has to have had two doses of an 'NHS programme' vaccination. The children have to have negative PCR tests prior to departure and everyone has to have negative LFTs at the port. Everyone over 11 has to wear masks on board, with zero exemptions (including medical).

Fingers crossed...

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 05/05/2021 10:20

At Bradford now, final jab but NO GIFT 😧

Ha I was the same!
Frazzled2207 · 05/05/2021 10:39

Well done to everyone having their crossover shots and hope you don’t get poorly. Dh had Az yesterday and is flat out in bed (Tbf he’s not particularly suffering, just sound asleep).

I realised the gifts have all been branded Bradford Research not Novavax so the initiative is down to the test centre. Awaiting final jab. They advise us to have a photo of the enormous certificate on phone.

Those with appointments today, any gossip re approval?

I asked and the answer was pretty vague but “next couple of months”. Doc said she thinks they’re waiting for the crossover trial to complete (another two weeks), then crunch all the data. The crossover seems to be significant in that the batches they’re using in the crossover have been manufactured here, whereas the pre-Xmas batches weren’t. I inferred from that that they’re wanting assurance that the UK manufactured vax is as good / stable / reliable etc as the foreign made batches. Looks like they’re crossing all the i’s and dotting all the t’s, probably learning the lessons of the AZ PR disaster.
JosephineDeBeauharnais · 05/05/2021 12:56

And the doc did say that we’re all back in October for the end of trial appointment, at which we may or may not get the booster depending which arm we were in first round.

Frazzled2207 · 05/05/2021 13:00

@JosephineDeBeauharnais
That’s helpful though I don’t like the “couple of months” part. Our doc was quite sure it would be “May”. As you suggest though I think it is down to checking the actual stuff that has come out of the factory in the north east- I read that they have to check three different batches and at least one is being checked now.
There is no urgency in the UK now sadly. But even if the UK doesn’t use novavax, the world needs it.

Yes that’s what the doc said about rest of the world plus there’s talk of boosters for all over 50s this autumn so the more choice in the market the better.
In a funny sort of way I’m glad they’re taking their time with ours as it feels as if the process will be robust and watertight. I really want Novavax to come out top for efficacy and side effects. We’ve done a good thing.

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 05/05/2021 13:12

Interestingly, the jab this morning really really hurt, where previously it’s been a tiny scratch. Hmm

Mine was the same. It stung so badly going in.

Same for me too for the 4th injection. I felt pretty rough for about a day after but ok after that. I hope you don't feel too bad.
