A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.
Never had a thread continue to part 2 before so quite excited.

@Daftapath I would definitely contact them, it could be that you are allergic to something?

werekitty · 27/04/2021 12:51

I got my certificate today, I was told that I'm the first person to have the second crossover jab at Chorley. Next appointment in October for bloods and will then get told.

ItsSnowJokes · 27/04/2021 15:09

Off for final jab tomorrow. Will be great to know I am fully vaccinated. Just got to hope it gets approved now or I don't know what happens! I keep hearing any day now it will get UK approval but it never seems to happen.

Frazzled2207 · 27/04/2021 17:18

@ItsSnowJokes
@werekitty
Brilliant news.
I am still none the wiser as to when I had it except that today, weirdly, 5 days after having the last jab I have a sore arm where I had the jab last week.
This is my first sore arm of the whole trial!

@Daftapath
hope it all settled down for you?
Once we've all had our last jabs there might not be anything else to chat about!!! (sob)

I am so sure I had the vaccine in the crossover and not in November. Had side effects after the 1st crossover. Will see what happens tomorrow. Will be so interesting when we are unblinded.

We can have a reunion in November when we're unblinded!

Easeljeasel · 27/04/2021 23:18

Ohhhh I had my fourth jab today and I feel awful! Shivery, arm ache now become arm and neck ache, head feels like it’s going to explode. Wah!

I’ve never needed to record symptoms before - do I just put them into the patient cloud thingy?

Torvean · 27/04/2021 23:20

@Daftapath it might be worth showing a pharmacist your injection site. I know some ppl have been advised to use anti histamines.

@ItsSnowJokes your my study twin. I get my second crossover tomorrow too. Though I think I got the vaccine last year.

There's a chance I may move from Scotland to England before the unblinding appt. The area I'd move to has done the same study. Do you think they will let you be seen in a different study centre?

I've no idea how the Americans don't get that its not a blind study if they do what some of them have done, but they just say its not in the contract that you can't do it....

Now they're flipping out demanding certification or if not they'll drop out and get the single J&J vaccination. Novavax should have stuck to payment on completion. Not $300 per visit. I think they've spent money on some poor participants. So UK seem to be correct in not paying.

Seems they may not do crossover in Mexico studies. Thats a shame because they will now have to pay for something if they got placebo.

I saw on the fb page they're talking of a study giving Novavax as a booster to ppl who have had 2 of either ,pfizer/Oxford.

In the states they're recruiting 11-17 year old. They're talking of other studies age 6 up. I find it hard to imagine many children under 10 being able to cope with all the invasive procedures.

Frazzled2207 · 28/04/2021 08:18

@Torvean
They are going a bit mental about it aren’t they. I really don’t think it’s a very good idea to go out and get another vaccine unless specially told. I have become eligible as of yesterday but it hadn’t crossed my mind to do this.

I am trusting of what I was told which is that our trial info will be fed into the vaccine passports system. I think it’s tricky without novavax getting approval but it really should during May I’ve been told. And once it’s approved if they really can’t sort it (because we have four dates not two) then I’m sure they can if we are unblinded- hopefully it won’t come to this though. Am still sort of hoping to go to Spain in august if this can be sorted. Just sorted 1st and 2nd appointments for husband which helps.

@Torvean my daughters were put forward for a Moderna trial that hasn't gone ahead. They're 7. I think the protocols are different with paediatric trials but they were both happy to consent to blood tests (they do them with emla cream so no pain) and swabs and really wanted to take part.

Torvean · 28/04/2021 10:43

Your daughter's are tough. Will they get another opportunity @andadietcoke

ItsSnowJokes · 28/04/2021 17:00

4th vaccine done and got the very giant handy sized certificate. Won't be unblinded till November as they have a date when everyone's data will be released apparently. My husband is going for his 12 month check in October and they said he won't find out at this date. Mine is 25th November so I should hear at that appointment.

I couldn't get much info about a booster out of the Dr. They are doing a massive trial on all vaccine boosters called CovBoost but I don't know if we are eligible.

Torvean · 28/04/2021 17:15

I've just had my 4th crossover and they did not have dates for everyone to come back.
They have no info on passports and no info on booster.

I had a reaction after the vaccine for the first time. About 1 minute after I had it I got really hot my temp went up and my pulse.
So I had to stay for an hour. I got seen by the Dr. My clothes were so wet that it soaked through to the chair. I was given cold wipes. Eventually I persuaded them to let me go. I only live 15 min away. So I can go back if I had to.

Frazzled2207 · 28/04/2021 18:47

@Torvean
Oh no! Are you ok now?

OP posts:
Torvean · 28/04/2021 18:57

Hi.

Yeah I'm ok. Really tired though and struggling to not nap.
Once I got home I had something to eat and drink, took some paracetamol. My temperatures back down. Might have a take away to celebrate finishing the trial.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 28/04/2021 19:21

Glad to hear it Torvean!

ItsSnowJokes · 28/04/2021 21:07

@Torvean hope you feel better soon. Keep an eye on any side effects and call straight away if you get worse xxxx

My arm is absolutely throbbing and so painful tonight. I have never had such a painful injection like I had today. My husband has said the same about his jab. The vaccinator was a sadist I am sure! The stinging pain when it went in and then just seemed to go on forever as she pressed the plunger.

ItsSnowJokes · 29/04/2021 06:13

Well I think I can 100% say I had the vaccine yesterday. I woke up at 3am shivering with a temp of 38.1, everything aches, my joints feel so stiff, I feel like I have the flu.

Need to take a lot of paracetamol today.

BG2015 · 29/04/2021 07:13

Hope you all feel better soon.

I'm off to my bloods appointment next week at Cheadle.

I was unblinded in March so will be interesting to find out about documentation, boosters etc

Frazzled2207 · 29/04/2021 08:08

@ItsSnowJokes
Sorry to hear. Hope the paracetamol keeps it at bay.
My husband is booked in for Tuesday. Is expecting az, and as he always gets “man flu” quite badly he’s basically written off the rest of the week. Experiences with novavax and Pfizer seem to be varied but most people I know have had az and I don’t know anyone that’s not been ill with it.

I have been wondering though if some people’s immune systems make them more/less likely to get ill with the vaccine, whichever they get.

OP posts:
ItsSnowJokes · 29/04/2021 08:27

I had no side effects really after first 2 jabs. A headache after jab 3, but jab 4 has really hit me for 6. I feel so rough this morning and have to work today.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 29/04/2021 08:58

Oh no. I hope it's an easy day work wise and you don't struggle too much Thanks

SpeckleDust · 29/04/2021 09:19

@ItsSnowJokes I felt spaced-out/hungover the day after my 4th jab too. I really struggled to do anything constructive and had to keep resting/lying down (luckily working from home so I could do this).

I felt fine again by the following day but try and take it easy. My instinct is that my immune system was going full pelt and hopefully I have lots of lovely antibodies/immunity now Smile.

Another weird thing I had (which could be a coincidence) was having diarrhoea the day after drinking alcohol 4 days after vax #4 (never normally get this after booze). I’ve also had an ear infection this week which is also v unusual for me Confused.

Woventabby · 29/04/2021 10:41

I have done all the four jabs. I think I had real ones last year. I still have to go in for blood, next month, and at the end of the trial one, due to a sub-study. (Not sure what it is exactly, but something to do with serology and neutralisation, and they want blood.)
