A continuation of the thread for those of us taking part in the Vaccine trial.

I am getting daily texts from my gp to book the vaccine. I emailed the trial centre saying I had been called for vaccine but that I really want to stay in the trial if it is soon for the crossover and all I got was a reply saying I will add you to the crossover list. That's it. Not impressed. And when I then called the woman who answered said no one would call me back till next week (this was on Monday I called).

I may call back again tomorrow.

Monkeygirl68 · 18/03/2021 18:25

@ItsSnowJokes I contacted the doctor at the centre today, and she told me that appointments will be offered April/May. When I expressed a concern, as like you I am being pestered with texts from both my GP and NHS, she told me that I would be added to the priority list. I was told that I would be contacted by phone for the appointments. When I had phoned up earlier in the week, the receptionist told me they hadn’t been given the nod, yet the doctor told me differently!

that's pretty rubbish. I'd be calling back asking to be unblinded I think.

I had a letter today today which seems to say that you have to refuse the NHS vaccine to be included in the trial. I am assuming they just mean not take it up, as until I have appointments for the next lot of injections I am not doing anything to jeopardise receiving an NHS vaccine instead. I feel disappointed that we aren't being better informed about progress on the trial approval.

Evenstar · 18/03/2021 21:56

I have had 3 texts now from GP

Torvean · 18/03/2021 23:53

I'm nervous of finding out which time I had the vaccine. I thought I had it the first time as I had side effects. This time I probably won't and they'll say I got the vaccine at crossover . My head will be Confused.

What's the deal with the NHS one. If there's less available when are they going to need to give the 2nd doses within the 12 week gap?

I found out 4 of my family are refusing the nhs vaccination. They've said nobody has actually died of Covid. Dr's lying on death certificates etc etc. I'm mortified. 1 of them in particular would probably not make it if they caught Covid.

On a different note one of my friends colleagues ( a nurse, with no health issues) had the vaccine, she still caught Covid and ended up in hospital with bi lateral pneumonia, she's recovering thankfully. However they said without the vaccine she'd likely have died.

Frazzled2207 · 19/03/2021 13:46

Got my crossover dates by email 8th and 29th April which is good except I am going to have to call them back as 29th looks difficult

Just seen that Nadhim Zahawi got his vaccine today so assume he must have been unblinded!

AVictoryProduct · 20/03/2021 14:32

I got a letter unblinding me this morning WITHOUT asking to be unblinded! I think it must be a mistake. I'm so disappointed because I really wanted to stay in the crossover trial. I had no intention of unblinding and haven't spoken to anyone about it. I'm 42 so I was hoping to get the Novavax crossover injections in April and therefore earlier than I would get the NHS ones. Bugger.

I'll ring them on Monday but I'm guessing that it's a mistake but now means I can't participate in the trial. I'm really annoyed. It feels like they have really let me down. Does anyone think they will still let me be in the crossover trial?? I need a cunning plan!

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 20/03/2021 15:08

Oh no. How annoying. I suppose if it's a mistake, you, and they, need to find out to what extent. Could it be that it's not even your status but someone else's, in which case, whatever they told you could be incorrect.

You could tell them you didn't read it - but that wouldn't be in the spirit of the trial.

You could say nothing at all. If it's a mistake and you didn't phone, email, or talk to anybody, and there's no reason for them to have written to you, make out they didn't write to you. They'd have a hard time trying to insist you're wrong by insisting they made a mistake!

So annoying though. I don't think I'd do either of those things, but I'd be mighty pissed off.

AVictoryProduct · 20/03/2021 18:37

Thanks @PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears, they are excellent ideas.

I think I will ring and say I got a letter by mistake and because it was obviously a mistake, I don't know whether the unblinded information is mine or not so I am going to ignore it and stay in the trial and do the crossover trial. Hopefully they will go with this, given they want people to stay in the trial.

I am tempted to say nothing at all, but then if they have a record that I have been unblinded, I won't be given dates for the crossover trial in April.

So I think I'll ring on Monday and ask to speak to the site manager to sort it out. I'll say before we go any further, I don't want to know if the letter was accurate or not because I don't want to be unblinded. The only problem with this is that it's a double blind study isn't it, so they shouldn't know who has had it either. Oh dear, it's all a bit confusing.

If they insist that I can't do the crossover trial I will be really annoyed!

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 20/03/2021 18:52

Exactly. I think that's all you can do. Report back!

AVictoryProduct · 20/03/2021 21:03

I will! Thanks @PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears

Frazzled2207 · 21/03/2021 09:29

How annoying. I hope they apologise profusely.
In wouldn’t have thought they could stop you carrying on though, after all, all of us doing the crossover will soon know that we’ve “had it”, just not when we had it.

That's a good point. The letter I've had says what I received and the dates.

I guess they might say that my behaviour might change after the two jabs I have in April on the crossover trial given I now (may) know what those jabs will be. And knowing might skew my reporting of side effects. And knowing may also skew my risk taking behaviour from now onwards (unlike others who are still blinded).

So yes, very annoying!

AVictoryProduct · 22/03/2021 10:42

Good news! I'm still in the trial. I rang and the site manager said the letter was a mistake, not meant for me and that I should shred the letter. Phew. She also confirmed that the crossover trial starts 29th March.

PleaseReferToMeAsBritneySpears · 22/03/2021 11:07

Excellent!

Frazzled2207 · 22/03/2021 11:40

@AVictoryProduct
Brilliant news!
I've been in touch with my centre (Stockport) and am now booked in for the 1st. Bring it on!

andadietcoke · 22/03/2021 13:02

Yay @Frazzled2207 glad they could move you earlier. I'm 9.30 on the 1st.

QueenOfThorns · 22/03/2021 13:20

Still no labels or appointment from Stockport here Sad

I’ll give it another couple of days and then get in touch if I’ve still not heard anything. I don’t want to hassle them, but I’m keen to know when I’m getting that jab!

Frazzled2207 · 22/03/2021 14:47

@andadietcoke I'm at 9 but will look out for you

Leeds are booking crossover appointments now starting April 19th. Smile

andadietcoke · 22/03/2021 16:25

No labels for me either @QueenOfThorns

SpeckleDust · 22/03/2021 16:58

Also booked in for my crossover appointment with the Stockport group. I called the Novovax contact at Stepping Hill last week as I had received a text to book my NHS appointment. I’m going first thing on 31st March so I must’ve got one of the earliest ones.

I’m really intrigued to see if I will have any reaction this time as I had nothing after the first two jabs. Exciting!
