Turning off ventilator

Partners brother has been ventilated for 3 weeks now.

A little improvement but he got an infection a couple of days ago and everything has gone down hill.

They are removing the vent shortly to let him pass.

Gutted.

What a terrible loss and an utter trauma for the whole family. I'm so very sorry for you all.
I nearly lost DH, OP. In the end, it all went in the right direction but it was looking hopeless in early January. I'm still traumatised by it all. It's a shocking virus.
I am so very sad for you and your family. The trauma of losing a loved one is unbearable. But to lose someone who was in his prime and in the whole of his health just lacerates you. May you find peace in each other's love for him.

He would have turned 46 tomorrow. His children are late teen and early 20's

My partner is home now and feeling numb, I'm just glad that he could be with him at the end

He had severe scarring and pulmonary fibrosis caused by covid. His lungs looked like "honeycomb" the Dr's said.

Once his oxygen was turned down he passed quickly, but did open his eyes briefly.

He got covid just before new year. He's so young. He was healthy.

Oh OP, I am so sorry.

I have heard of very fit {Can't identify profession} young man in hospital that my brother knows.
Brother says younger people are being hospitalised now {according to a respiratory nurse he knows}..It is so unfair.

If someone is very very old, it is bad enough, but a younger person...
That is hard to deal with.
