Turning off ventilator

Partners brother has been ventilated for 3 weeks now.

A little improvement but he got an infection a couple of days ago and everything has gone down hill.

They are removing the vent shortly to let him pass.

Gutted.

The best thing you can do, in honour of his life, is to put your arms around your partner.
No words are needed sometimes.
And then find someone else to comfort you.

@jinglybell - so very sorry to hear about your loss.

We lost a family member recently - closer to DH than me. I found just hugging him was better than talking, but of course everyone grieves differently. My friend died earlier this year and the thing I wanted to do more than anything else was talk about her.

I hope you, your DP and his family manage to find peace in time.

I think you are doing a good thing posting on here - hopefully it will help you to share here so you can be stronger for your DP but also I think people need to hear these stories.

I'm a bit fed up of all the people that seem to assume everyone under 50 will be ok so they can expose others to risk with a clear conscience - the fact people are asking your DPs brother's age shows that people are so wedded to the idea it just doesn't affect healthy people under 50 and it's just not true. I know several 20 somethings who've ended up in hospital - yes, they've been 'ok' (though still breathless and much more unhealthy than they were before) so don't appear in the statistics, but I know not a single person who's ever been hospitalised by flu in their 20s, 30s or 40s. It's a horrible, terrible disease.

I'm so sorry to hear this.
Sending you and your family, love and strength Flowers

So sorry for your loss, I think some people still find it hard to believe that younger people without underlying conditions are dying from covid. I heard of a 50 year old lady that died today, she went to hospital for something else and caught covid, she had no underlying conditions (other than what she went in for which would not have made much difference to covid), just so sad.

Ellie56 · 06/02/2021 19:01

It is scary how many people go into hospital without Covid and catch it while they are there. Sad

Tyranttoddler · 06/02/2021 19:02

So sorry to hear this sad news. Dreadful.

BejeweledCrocs · 06/02/2021 19:04

I'm very sorry, sending love to you and your family x

I'm so sorry for your loss.

46y is far far too young - and scary to think about too.

Wishing you and your family much strength to deal with this.

Bereftmypoormum · 06/02/2021 19:21

I’m so sorry op, the shock must be unbearable. I recently lost my mum (70, well, active) multi organ failure following Covid pneumonitis. The damage it did to her lungs was so severe. It just seems to ‘go for’ some people. Big hugs to you.

Janus · 06/02/2021 19:21

God this is horrific, I’m so truly sorry for your family’s loss Jingly, take care Flowers

ajandjjmum · 06/02/2021 19:22

Oh, I'm so sorry.

Everything about that is just brutal.

It may be too soon for this right now, but for later it may be useful to be aware of this organisation. They have lots of information that may help families on this page - including ways of linking up with other families who have lost loved ones to covid-19 and also specific help such as charities helping children.
