10 million people vaccinated already - brilliant!

This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

It is indeed!

lurker101 · 04/02/2021 10:58

Thanks Brew

LetItGoGo · 04/02/2021 10:59

That's a great achievement.

Brunt0n · 04/02/2021 11:02

It’s fantastic, and the vaccine stats are the only news I can stomach right now!

Level75 · 04/02/2021 11:02

Look at this lovely graph from the Telegraph. Obviously we'll need to factor in second doses, but I think the rate of vaccinations is likely to keep increasing for a while which will help.

notevenat20 · 04/02/2021 11:04

By the time we get to second doses we should have the modern vaccine too, so that will help a lot.

Rosehip10 · 04/02/2021 11:06

@Level75 Yes, but second doses will have a very large impact on first dose levels - Chris Whitty said this last night. So that graph is a bit of propoganda from the telegraph.

boys3 · 04/02/2021 11:11

Difficult weather conditions in parts of the country but the numbers keep rolling in.

Passing 10 MILLION first doses by 2nd Feb is a brilliant achievement.

Especially in the depths of winter.

As the days start to lengthen, more vaccines start to get approved and come on stream, vaccine supply improves further it really should set us up for a successful delivery over the wider adult population

springwinterautumn · 04/02/2021 11:22

It's about capacity. 400,000 a day will need a second dose. So first doses will have to be paused for second doses.

gingeristhenewblack43 · 04/02/2021 11:23

Joining the new thread and looking forward to 4pm today for the vax data update 🎉

InterfectoremVulpes · 04/02/2021 11:26

10 days to do the remaining 4m or so to hit target.

I would guess that groups 5-9 might move at a slightly slower rate given that 2nd doses will also start, but I would assume that people requiring their 2nd would already have an appointment slot booked anyway? With more vaccine hubs coming online it shouldn't slow things down too much hopefully

CaveMum · 04/02/2021 11:31

Thanks for the new thread and great opening post @buttery81!

Looking forward to 2pm for the England stats and 4pm for the big numbers!

buttery81 · 04/02/2021 11:34

@boys3 very true - and I’d add that we’ve also started with the hardest, least mobile groups as well. Now we’re moving down the ages that should also help speed things up!

but I would assume that people requiring their 2nd would already have an appointment slot booked anyway?

I think so - my parents (aged 65-69) were given a date and time for the second dose when they were booked in for the first. They have their first jab tomorrow!

Zogstart · 04/02/2021 11:41

It makes my head hurt thinking about the organisation it must require to get the second doses at the right time given that for first doses people don’t know which vaccine they are going to get until they turn up. I have every faith the NHS can pull it off though.
10 million is brilliant and we are on target for the 15 February. I can remember when Boris announced this target and I never thought we’d get anywhere near. What a triumph!

Blessex · 04/02/2021 11:42

Hooray! A new thread. Thanks @buttery81. Yes my parents had their jabs nearly 3 weeks ago and were given an appointment for their second jab. We can do this!!!!

Blessex · 04/02/2021 11:43

@Zogstart my parents knew which vaccine they would get in advance and have their second dose of same vaccine booked in. I have every faith too!!!

buttery81 · 04/02/2021 11:47

@Zogstart @Blessex same here - my parents were told in they’ll be getting the AZ vaccine! Grin

OP posts:
Zogstart · 04/02/2021 11:47

Oh did they? I know my grandma didn’t. I guess it will be vital people attend on the correct day for their second dose because if they turn up the next day hoping to be squeezed in the centre might be doing a batch of Pfizer when they need oxford or vice versa. But let’s cross that bridge when we come to it!
I’m seeing more and more celebratory posts on social media about friends parents getting their vaccine which is so lovely so see Smile

CaveMum · 04/02/2021 11:48

Interestingly my parents were done on different days at the same hub and got different vaccines (mum got AZ and dad Pfizer) so I guess they are using whatever supply they have in on the day for the first dose, but as you say @Zogstart there will be some incredible logistics involved in planning ahead for the second doses.

dillusional · 04/02/2021 11:49

I'm so proud of this. We've fucked up so many times on the way (Gov has and rule breakers) but this is brilliant. We just shouldn't fuck up with the second doses though which is very very important.

Frazzled6 · 04/02/2021 11:54

I'd be happy to have a mix of vaccines. Not sure how soon that trial will start but I'm in the 5 to 9 group and will go to one of the mass vaccination centres when it's my turn.
