This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

I should be getting my 2nd jab March to April.

DdraigGoch · 04/02/2021 12:10
@Level75 Yes, but second doses will have a very large impact on first dose levels - Chris Whitty said this last night. So that graph is a bit of propoganda from the telegraph.
Many of the vaccination centres have spare capacity. Obviously supply is the limiting factor but there are more vaccines coming online now.

KewAnon · 04/02/2021 12:11

buttery81 what's a one-legged trouser? Grin Never heard that saying before.

CaveMum · 04/02/2021 12:20

Interesting reading on the study into mixing vaccines: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55924433

Frazzled2207 · 04/02/2021 12:21

@KewAnon
@buttery81 is referring to a posted on the previous thread that was spouting rubbish.

My parents have had theirs this morning in North Wales. They went to one of the large vaccine hubs and found it very efficient albeit low tech. They seemed to think they were getting AZ but got Pfizer. My mum's mental health has really suffered in lockdown, mostly due to worrying about my CEV dad. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end of this for them .

@KewAnon it's in reference to comments on the last thread by posters talking people only being half vaccinated. Analogies got dragged in about one legged people and trousers. Twas amusing!
PuzzledObserver · 04/02/2021 12:23

I just watched John Campbell’s video on recent Astra Zeneca study - the one which demonstrated reduced transmissibility. It also shows that efficacy is better with a 12 week gap than if the gap is less than six weeks.

I hope that similar studies are being done on Pfizer too.

CaveMum · 04/02/2021 12:23

Great news @Frazzled2207 (just noticed we have two posters on this thread called Frazzled, hope that doesn't get confusing!)

TheVeryHungryTortoise · 04/02/2021 12:26

It's wonderful news! Thank you for creating a nice positive thread! I work as a vaccinator and am so grateful that I get to work in something so positive and hopeful right now, I know it is not the case for many in healthcare.

Blessex · 04/02/2021 12:29

@Frazzled2207 that’s great news about your parents. And @TheVeryHungryTortoise what great work you are doing !!!!! Jab jab jab

I am never sure how to translate the England only numbers at 2pm into likely UK numbers at 4pm. Does anyone have a handy formula?

I don't know for sure, but yesterday the total UK number was about 74,000 higher than the England numbers, so you could probably make a guesstimate from there. We know that Wales and Scotland have been slower, but they are starting to pick up the pace.
HalfDutchGirl · 04/02/2021 13:42

I've just finished my shift at one of our local vaccine hubs, we were jabbing 2 every five minutes today with a 100% attendance.

Everyone already had their second appointment booked (all in April). If someone turns up on the wrong day they are not on the system & unfortunately we cannot generally do them unless there is a gap or someone hasn't turned up.

Frazzled2207 · 04/02/2021 13:44

@CaveMum
I know scotland are now up to 40,000 + a day and Wales 20,000+ a day. So 70-80k above the English number sound about right

Frazzled2207 · 04/02/2021 13:45

Ps according to a graph yesterday Wales are now significantly quicker and actually ahead of England in terms of jabs per day per 100,000. Scots still lagging.

Blessex · 04/02/2021 13:48

Why are the Scots lagging?

Frazzled6 · 04/02/2021 13:48

I thought the Scots were starting to get their act together with two mass hubs.. NS quoted 55k a day.

Nutrigrainygoodness · 04/02/2021 13:53

Ignore me. I'm just here for the numbers Grin

Mumoftwoinprimary · 04/02/2021 14:01

My 69 year old (healthy) mum has just had a text from her GP and is now booked in for tomorrow for her first jab!

She is West Midlands.
