This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

@tootyfruitypickle

If they're already doing critical workers surely some police are being done, and they absolutely must add in teachers !
I have heard a few places have done their local police and firemen. So are on council worker and school staff for their spare doses now. It is oblivious not the norm and depending on were you live. Good though.
EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 04/02/2021 23:30

Everyone I know who's had the first jab were given appointments straight away for the second . Love this thread

MarcelineMissouri · 04/02/2021 23:43

I am in the West Midlands and work in a school. 2 sen schools we have connections with in the local area have now had their staff vaccinated - a local council decision. (So I’m assuming it’s all sen schools being done here but I only know of two for sure)

Frazzled2207 · 04/02/2021 23:46

Really good to hear of councils taking sensible decisions for their key workers. I’m wondering if they are effectively using up spar doses as have heard some councils saying they’re “not allowed” to start jabbing the under 70s though clearly many are.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 04/02/2021 23:51

Lovely to have a positive thread in amongst the doom.

2X4B523P · 04/02/2021 23:52

10.5 million protected AND a large percentage of those will no longer be potential carriers!

Frazzled6 · 04/02/2021 23:57

Unfortunately some councils have had their hands slapped for not following guidelines with keyworkers etc. Proof of age and profession are now being requested and people will be turned away.

I'm all for spare vaccines being used up but I think getting jabs through sites that are not meant for that purpose is so wrong, its deceitful.

Some more optimism - based on the figures reported today 0.91% of NI’s entire population was vaccinated yesterday! Fantastic results

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 05/02/2021 00:11

Hancock was shift today when the reporter said that at this pace we could have Grouos 1-9 done by 21 March. He repeated were on track gir the top4 by 25 Feb, but wouldn't tbe drawn into anything re groups5-9.

I'm an impatient G6er, I'd like to be given a date they expect to be starting my Group & if/how they're planning on prioritising within that group, its huge!

First time I've been happy to be over 50 & diabetic. It's been a scary year.

Good point we can officially say that now there is some proofSmile
lurker101 · 05/02/2021 00:21

I imagine for the larger groups they will open an online booking system, and it will be first come first served within the eligible groups probably too admin-heavy to sub-categorise slightly more or less vulnerable and there will be such variations between districts. Similar to the English over 70s booking and the system for 65-69 in NI.

Frazzled6 · 05/02/2021 00:27

@WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants
Im the same 60 and I suspect I've had a TIA during lockdown (some memory loss) but there is no way I'm going near a hospital for tests without the vaccine.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 05/02/2021 01:45

Up to 31 January, 88% of those aged over 80 have received a first dose, along with 55% of over-70s.

Hmm that's a thought. I hadn't considered 'first come, first served'

I hope I have better luck with the vaccine that I do with Christmas shopping slots!!🤣

I'm glad you could read & basically understand my post, it's FULL of mistakes

Musicaltheatremum · 05/02/2021 02:19

Edinburgh here. Our big hubs opened on Feb 1st so 70-74 being vaccinated now. At the same time GPs are vaccinating the older age groups and CEV. We finished our over 80s today. The ones that didn't come in last week due to awful ice.
Our practice had 400 vaccines delivered from 18/1 until last week and today we got 280. We will get half of those into people's arms Friday and Saturday.

MargosKaftan · 05/02/2021 06:15

Found you again! This is just my favourite thread. Such good news all the time.

20% of adults with a vastly reduced likelihood of catching covid and they are the most vulnerable. Its got to start improving things soon.

sandgrown · 05/02/2021 06:26

I volunteered yesterday as a Marshall in a vaccine centre. It ran like a well oiled machine . Most people were CEV and carers The manager said they have not wasted a single dose . A lady spent the morning calling people to try an get them in to use any spare doses due to no shows. It was a lovely atmosphere as everyone was so grateful.

PurBal · 05/02/2021 07:05

I've got such mixed feelings. I'm obviously pleased for all those who have had it but some countries haven't even started their vaccination program and are unlikely to until 2022. Bittersweet. I hope that vulnerable people in other countries live long enough to get their vaccination.

buttery81 · 05/02/2021 07:35

My parents (group 5) are having their first dose today! I’m so happy!

The Omnicalculator site is promising- I'm not in any priority groups and my first vaccine was estimated by September and now it's June.

vodkaredbullgirl · 05/02/2021 10:39

@buttery81 great news

MaddieElla · 05/02/2021 10:50

That is good news @buttery81

@PurBal I understand it must be worrying for those that haven't quite got the ball rolling for whatever reason, as deaths are still happening in large numbers. Either more vaccines will be approved, or other countries will come to their aid, UK included. But yes, that won't be immediate.

MaddieElla · 05/02/2021 10:51

Wow @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz, that is promising! We really are flying.

pinkpanther84 · 05/02/2021 10:53

My parents have had their jabs this morning, 70-75 group, south west. So happy for them Smile
