This is a continuation of the previous thread, www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/4145954-6-3-million-people-vaccinated-already-brilliant

This thread is intended as a positive place to observe our remarkable vaccine rollout as it progresses and to celebrate the ever increasing numbers as we go.

Polite notice: conspiracy theorists, doommongers and those looking for endless debate over vaccine efficacy, leave vs remain and one-legged trousers - this is probably not the thread for you.

So, to pick up from where we left off... a truly tremendous 10,021,471 people in the UK have now received their first dose of the vaccine - that’s 18.9% (or 1 in every 5.3) of all UK adults.

There’s no doubt about it - there is an unmistakable light at the end of this long, long tunnel and every day it’s getting brighter. Come on folks - let’s do this!! Grin

That's fantastic, @Cavemum!!

We can afford to wait another 39 days before we starting doing second jabs on those who received first jabs at the beginning of January... so we could be up to 50% of adults having received first shots by the middle of March.

Then we could proceed with half first doses and half second doses, and be up to 80% of people with a first dose by early June. Roll on summer time!!

Of course, I would like to see 100% takeup of those who medically can. It will never happen, sadly. But hopefully, at least some of those worried about side effects will be reassured by the lack of serious side effects in the millions who have had the jabs.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/02/2021 15:59

We mustn't worry too much about the snow next week. Because there are so many centres with capacity, all that will happen I think is that they will play catch up with unused doses when the weather settles. It's going to feel like a blow, but it is short term.

Londt · 04/02/2021 16:03

I’m looking forward to the stats shared by the brainsters on here, it’s the highlight of my day seeing XX% or 1 in X now vaccinated Smile

CaveMum · 04/02/2021 16:04

469,016!

Total now at 10,490,487 first doses and 501,957 second doses

PuzzledObserver · 04/02/2021 16:07

So close to 10.5 million first doses... but over half a million second doses - fantastic!!

MaddieElla · 04/02/2021 16:16

Oof!

buttery81 · 04/02/2021 16:27

Today’s fantastic figure means that 19.8% of all UK adults have now received their first dose. I’m looking forward to tomorrow when we will officially get over 20%.

Blimmin amazing!

Brilliant is it. Plus we will have a buffer of people that now have some natural immunity. Add that to the vaccine percentage and it buys us a little more time.
notevenat20 · 04/02/2021 16:31

Bets for tomorrow?

Mumoftwoinprimary · 04/02/2021 16:31

Cases, people admitted to hospital and deaths are all down again today as well compared to this time last week.

20% of adults ❤

Oh and thank you for posting that London vaccination figure/article on the other thread. As are percentage of vaccinations always looks lower that has calmed my worries a lot🥰

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 04/02/2021 16:33

Bet for tomorrow

10,850,000🤞💉

tootyfruitypickle · 04/02/2021 16:35

Ooh this is a great thread.

If we go down the age bands, what age does 50% of all adults take us too, does anyone clever know?

tootyfruitypickle · 04/02/2021 16:39

ok I've just worked it out by the proportions of the 2011 census - it looks like 50% of the adult population is all over 40s give or take a little as obviously health care workers make up some of this 50%?

FourTeaFallOut · 04/02/2021 16:42

There was a big step up between Thursday and Friday last week. I'm going with a cool 11m. So 510k doses.

tootyfruitypickle · 04/02/2021 16:43

and CV, CEV, massive group. 50% therefore is the top priority phase 1? Am I catching up..... ?!
If that could be done by mid March that would be superb.

Yes, I think median age of the UK population is around 40 (?) so half the UK population would be approximately everyone aged over 40.
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 04/02/2021 16:53

The percentages on graph does include under 18s though. I haven't seen anything so far that don't. It does give a good guide to calculate from thoughSmile

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 04/02/2021 16:55

Well if they get down to at least the over 45s I am sorted 💉😂

PuzzledObserver · 04/02/2021 16:57

Don't forget the effects of natural immunity. There are probably at least 20% of the population who have had it, and have at least some degree of immunity. What was it - 88% still have antibodies after 6 months?

(I was part of that trial, btw - gave a blood sample every month for 6 months)

So, once we get to 50% vaccinated, we could actually be at close to 60% having immunity (on the basis that they are still vaccinating people who have been infected). Although there was a discussion on the Zoe vaccine webinar yesterday about the possibility of deferring vaccination for those who have had a positive test for up to 6 months. Either that, or only giving them one shot.

I just love this thread. My baby is due in April and I'm hoping grandparents will be able to meet the baby after they've all had their jabs and hopefully easing of lockdown rules!

Zogstart · 04/02/2021 17:04

There must be a huge amount of herd immunity among the student population who on the whole won’t be in groups 1-9. So that should help too.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 04/02/2021 17:04

An interesting idea

Fingers crossed everything will have started to relax a lot more by then

Poor you being pregnant in a pandemic. I couldn't imagine. My baby was newborn when we went into March lockdown and that was bad enough.

I wish you a brilliant lockdown free maternity time once your baby arrives ❤
