Just realised that the reported vaccination numbers are for the previous day, so the actual number of people vaccinated right now is higher than the number reported today. Probably was obvious to most people but it made me happy!

@scotlandg

Hi, I'm CEV and had my jab today. My area didn't start on anyone until yesterday. So they completed all of the over 8os and then next band and worked down. Means so much to us as my children haven't been able to attend school because of medical risk to me. I cried when they phoned me. So it's moving fast when it gets to your area.

Can I ask your age group please @scotlandg?

Furries · 17/01/2021 23:55

I hardly ever post here, but just want to say that I blooming love this thread. I dip in every so often when I hit a bad patch and just seeing all the snippets really does help remind me of the positives.

Although I’ve got elderly relatives who haven’t been contacted yet, I find it really uplifting to see news of anyone getting the vaccine - in my mind, that’s one more ticked off the very long list. I honestly don’t care if they’re younger etc - maybe what they do in their life impacts/helps someone else day to day, so if they are less at risk then all is good.

To those who are constant posters of info/data/links - thank you! Lots of us might be silent observers, but it is definitely appreciated.

I had to google image Eran Segal after your post @clarexbp .

I can honestly say he is the hottest computational biologist I've ever seen.

Tobe e - I'm 35. So am in group 4 I think. But in one weekend they did groups 1-4 I think.

I'm not sure if this comes under the usual category of this thread, but I thought it was worth sharing anyway edition.cnn.com/2021/01/17/us/uk-plumber-helps-families-during-pandemic-trnd/index.html

Oh @FourTeaFallOut I don't understand Sad

FourTeaFallOut · 18/01/2021 03:17

I'm sorry, I shouldn't post in the middle of the night. Blush

There were a glut of women, no doubt so bored with lockdown, that they got over enthused about taking the bins out and dressed up to the eyeballs.

And I am so chuffed that I might get the group 4 letter, I could just, you know - go the full Amanda Holden and burst open the front door to take the post dressed like I'm off to the ball.

I'll no doubt regret that I posted any of this in the morning. Can we chalk it up to 3am- and-up-all-night craziness and never speak of it again?

Telegraph reporting this morning that 5.6m will get invited to have the vaccine this week and that number will include CEV and over 70s

Pomegranatespompom · 18/01/2021 06:51

Googled Eran, I prefer sir Simon !

TJ17 · 18/01/2021 07:28

@Crazycatlady83

Can I share some selfish good news? My parents “got the call” this evening (from their GP - working on a Sunday 👏👍) and they have their appointments for tomorrow at 4.20pm!! They are prepared to travel to a hub. My dad is vulnerable (has a history of heart concerns) but they are both in their late 60s so I wasn’t expecting it so soon! Had to share as I’m really (selfishly) relieved they are getting it so soon!!
This isn't selfish it will eventually contribute to the safety of the whole of the UK 😊

Plus I'm the kind of person who feels happy for others so this is great news Flowers

tootyfruitypickle · 18/01/2021 07:36

@clarexbp thanks for posting this I got poleaxed by a couple of things I read late last night and also started worrying about whether the vaccine was working in Israel, and made a mental note to research it today - so you’ve saved me a rabbit hole !!

Plus, it was getting light when I got up this morning for first time for ages.

tootyfruitypickle · 18/01/2021 07:38

Also just to pipe up I like hearing about anyone vaccinated. It makes it feel like we have momentum.

Motorina · 18/01/2021 07:49

It looks like we’ve played an absolutely blinder in ordering vaccines and will end up with far too much. I’m not complaining! Who could have predicted so many of the early runners would have been successful?

But what happens to the excess doses?

Crazycatlady83 · 18/01/2021 08:07

@TJ17 thanks! Because of their ages, I was worried some might have seen them as “queue jumping”! But then the announcement that over 70s and CEV were being done so it explains it all! I’m also so so thankful for their GP working on a Sunday (late as well, they didn’t get the call until around 6pm!)

I re-looked at the definition of CEV last night and my dad now falls in that category but he hasn’t ever received a shielding letter so I think the category may have recently changed - I don’t know!!

DamnBadLuck · 18/01/2021 08:13

What a great thread. Nearly full though so I will look out for the next one. I also read the news in the early hours about invites going out to the next tranche - the over 70's. It does feel like real momentum.

Yes you are right.

Obviously not all those will necessarily be approved but wow.

I suppose most need two doses and they are saying the priority list may need yearly vaccination. So not sure how much will be left over. However I could imagine it going to aid poorer countries or at least hope that.

I'd imagine we'd either store for if the vulnerable need them yearly or sell them on to other countries

Just sharing this from @EricTopol on Twitter- the images are from Our World in Data, but nice to see the positive comment about the UK and Ireland too!
