@Furries

I hardly ever post here, but just want to say that I blooming love this thread. I dip in every so often when I hit a bad patch and just seeing all the snippets really does help remind me of the positives.

Although I’ve got elderly relatives who haven’t been contacted yet, I find it really uplifting to see news of anyone getting the vaccine - in my mind, that’s one more ticked off the very long list. I honestly don’t care if they’re younger etc - maybe what they do in their life impacts/helps someone else day to day, so if they are less at risk then all is good.

To those who are constant posters of info/data/links - thank you! Lots of us might be silent observers, but it is definitely appreciated.

I absolutely agree with you @Furries ! I am on the same page of those who are ecstatic to hear about others vaccines. Even if some of my elderly relatives have not been called yet, every single person who posts on the thread about their x y z relative being vaccinated is one less person who is protected to a certain extent in the UK so I absolutely LOVE hearing about these.

I read the last couple of pages and the majority seem to love hearing about posters whose relative of a certain age group or vulnerability being vaccinated so just added to add one more voice in that support Smile

This whole thread is having a positive affect on my mental health- thank you everyone for all the good news!!

The vaccine minister has said restrictions will likely start to be lifted in March. It is on the BBC website.

This is what Rab was saying a few days ago too. So looks like they have a plan.

Great to watch the lovely Marsh family on BBC breakfast singing 'Have the new jab' to the tune of Hallelujah. This family have been an inspiration throughout the pandemic and so blooming talented.

Love hearing about people's relatives being vaccinated any vaccinations are great news and so positive, feels like the U.K. is on a roll!

Peggyslantern · 18/01/2021 11:58

Thank you, that's a wonderful video. I love the Marsh Family

FourTeaFallOut · 18/01/2021 12:19

The telegraph are reporting that Newcastle have given (offered?) the first dose to all care home residents. Unfortunately it doesn't say what the take up was or if, as the headline suggests, it was literally all of them.

FourTeaFallOut · 18/01/2021 12:21

Must be less impatient and read all the way to the bottom of the article.

"GP Dr Jane Carman said none of the residents refused to have the jab" Shock That's amazing.

HesterShaw1 · 18/01/2021 12:48

Hello everyone, I lurk and like this thread. Thank you :)

Enjoyed the Marsh family's latest rendition too. It won't change any anti vaxxers' minds but those girls can really sing. And I must admit to having a bit of a crush on Mr Marsh Blush

Zoe app estimating 43 469 cases down from approx 53k 2 days ago
Today Zoe estimates 41 617 cases, a small drop from yesterday
Frazzled2207 · 18/01/2021 14:38

@FourTeaFallOut
I’m sure I read on Twitter that virtually all care home residents had agreed but that take up was slightly less among staff.

Well done old people Star
Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 18/01/2021 15:14

A small Zoe drop is still a drop. I will take it with a YAY!Grin

FourTeaFallOut · 18/01/2021 15:15

Yeah, it doesn't mention it in the article, it just says that care home staff are still being vaccinated at the centre for life hub, but I heard that 1 in 5 care home staff are declining the jab.

I think it's a matter of watch this space. 80% right off the bat is probably in line with expectations.

Yes I read something about that. One issue there is the amount of young black carers. The BAME population are more reluctant in general to have the vaccine.

Apparently there is work going on to try and address some of the misinformation being circulated there.

Also as it becomes more normal to have the vaccinations some people are likely to change their minds.

Fingers crossed

PadManic · 18/01/2021 15:48

I've been volunteering at a large vaccination centre which does about 600 vaccines a day and the enthusiasm and gratitude of the elderly people having the jab has been really heart-warming.

Everyone is just so delighted to be there. Even people that you think might put off coming are turning up as soon as they are invited. It's a lovely place to be. Grin

TheChineseChicken · 18/01/2021 16:54

Another good drop in cases today

louisejxxx · 18/01/2021 17:09

I’ve just spotted on the daily figures that admissions to hospital were less yesterday than they have been for the last week or so. I hope this is the start of the downward turn in that area.

TheChineseChicken · 18/01/2021 17:12

Let’s hope so

It should start dropping any time now if it follows the infection rate dropping by about a week. Hopefully over this week we should start to see a stabilisation and then drop in the death rate
littleowl1 · 18/01/2021 17:37

Well I was so cheered to see that we are still seeing more councils with falling cases which I have published on the www.covidmessenger.com homepage!

Hooray!

Fingers and toes crossed for the trend to continue tomorrow!

Councils in England with falling cases week over week: 278
Councils in England with rising cases week over week: 36

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/01/2021 17:37

I have been following Israel’s numbers and I am pleased to see a very sharp drop today- on January 11th they were on 9754 new cases and today they have got 4083.
I think we are looking at the vaccine having an impact on spread...

TeaInTheGarden · 18/01/2021 18:08

I really hope so @TheCountessofFitzdotterel
It’s going to be so interesting to watch what happens there. Everything crossed that the vaccine reduces transmission....

TeaInTheGarden · 18/01/2021 18:10

Over 4 million first doses of vaccine given. How long till we get to 5 million do we think? I’m going for Wednesday, and therefore showing up in Thursday figures....

Oh gosh, that’s a huge drop. I’ve been getting quietly panicked that Israel will see now effect and the rest of the world will be watching with horror
