The Zoe app figures seem to be fairly close to the official ones - does that mean test & trace is working much better than it did?

BigWoollyJumpers · 17/01/2021 15:39

Don't get me wrong, reality is fine. I have lots of shit news I could share, but not on this thread...... I am trying to find the good news.

tobee · 17/01/2021 15:39

@tobee

I think things are just getting incredibly very personal and tense for people in rl. It's bound to be that people are getting a bit scratchy with each other (as my dm would say!)

To be fair @IncludeWomenInTheSequel has posted some lovely things on this thread. We have posted less than good news things on here before and then reined ourselves in.

Posting about individuals being vaccinated is tricky. I did say about my parents I think as others were doing. I don't want to upset anyone but it will be really hard not to mention when cev Dh gets the vaccine; especially as I'm constantly being asked by relatives and friends if he's heard. And my two adult dc who live here have been amazing at shielding him too! It makes me feel a bit tearful just thinking about it.

Anyway, sensitive times and sensitive topics. We have prided ourselves on this thread on being supportive of everyone if possible.

Sorry I badly edited my post!

I think it just means that more people are getting tested, not necessarily that test & trace has improved.
Spiratedaway · 17/01/2021 15:41

@tobee I apologise to @IncludeWomenInTheSequel if that is the case it is just getting to everyone

MarcelineMissouri · 17/01/2021 15:43

Just giving my POV on the personal vaccine stories. My in laws both in their 70’s have had theirs. My parents and step mum have not. I also have 2 grandparents in their 90’s both in care homes who have not yet been vaccinated although one is due to get it tomorrow. I’m still dead chuffed that my in laws have had theirs, ditto the various people I know who work in the NHS who have had it, and also all the random posters on mumsnet who have had it or have relatives who have had it who I don’t know from Adam.... because every vaccine given to ANYONE is hopefully cutting off a chain of transmission somewhere which makes it better for everyone. I actually find it quite weird that people would not want to hear about people getting vaccinated because every jab given is surely good news for us all.
So my personal view is that on a good news thread we should be welcoming every story of anyone getting vaccinated because what better news can there be at the moment?!

FifeQuine · 17/01/2021 15:43

Accepted, of course, FloraFocus Flowers

I hope this is good news - cases reported in Scotland today is the lowest number since 28th December, I hope this means we are over the peak.

MarshaBradyo · 17/01/2021 15:44

@BigWoollyJumpers

other actual facts are deemed doom mongering

Other actual "opinions" (because they are not always facts lets face it), should be confined to the other many, many, many, threads of complaining how shit everything is.

This thread is for finding the good news, which isn't necessarily front page, because good news doesn't sell, and bringing it to general attention. Let's keep it like that.

Yes please

This is how I see the thread.

We know the reality it’s a thread for certain things - good news

IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 17/01/2021 15:49

@FloraFocus

My parents area have started vaccinating so have the right space in place. But they are waiting on vaccine delivery but have a very high number of over 80s. This number is not a surprise!

So yes it seems very odd when areas are moving down the list.

I'm just glad they aren't in Scotland or Wales though.

The over 80s in my town have all been vaccinated and a hub is opening in our community centre next week. Scotland has vaccinated over 5% of the population.
MarcelineMissouri · 17/01/2021 15:49

More than half of over 80’s now vaccinated!

@ChristmasinJune

I like the tiny pony, does he sniff out Covid like the dogs? And how are those dogs getting along? Does anybody know?
I dunno but in my head I've named him Marzipan Smile
IncludeWomenInTheSequel · 17/01/2021 15:51

Thank you @tobee that's nice of you to say. For the alleged happy thread there are a lot of people telling me to piss off! But I came for the good news and I'm staying for the miniature animals Grin

@Spiratedaway the Times article was published today: www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/all-arrivals-to-uk-face-hotel-quarantine-to-stop-new-covid-strains-qgl5q3dkk

I agree that everyone is getting very tense irl and it spills out online. I was absolutely furious and upset yesterday when an acquaintance on FB misunderstood something I’d said about schools. I wrote lots of responses and then just decided not to get into it.

It’s been a long slog and people’s experiences over the last year are so diverse, many are hard but in completely different ways.

I love this thread - it’s a really place of sanity and I’m so glad to have it.

Great so see the stats on jabs per minute today 👍

FuzzyPuffling · 17/01/2021 16:10

Marzipan is a terrific name for the tiny pony.
We need more Marzipans in this life.

Great drop in cases today!!

FuzzyPuffling · 17/01/2021 16:23

Still rocketing upwards alarmingly in Cornwall. Almost the same as at our highest peak. We're feeling very overlooked here.
HELP! Send Marzipan.

This thread has been a saviour for me over the past few weeks because it has been all about the positive news stories, and making me feel like the world is not about to end like a lot of the doom mongers seem to act.

I think it is difficult not to compare posts to our own personal lives - from my perspective, I'm in an area where vaccines are not really happening yet, and cases are increasing, so I do find it difficult to relate to those who are in areas posting about vaccinations for those already in the 70s group etc.

However when I think about the bigger picture I know that every vaccine is a great thing even if it feels very removed from my own area and situation, and I just need to hold onto that hope that we will get there soon too!
