What do you think Boris is going to announce tomorrow? Is he going to announce a full lockdown the day before Christmas Eve?

OP posts:
Jenasaurus · 22/12/2020 22:45

I can clearly see my town is encircled in yellow, and to be honest am releived it is, I never understood why it wasnt included, our neighbouring town is tier 4 and we use the hospital in tier 4 and have a higher number per 100k than they do so didnt understand why we were still tier 2

BigButtons · 22/12/2020 22:45

Ah- my town’s on that list. We’ve been very low all the way through- up until last week. I was very surprised we didn’t get put into tier 3 on Saturday.

Jenasaurus · 22/12/2020 22:46

I am in Crawley and both my sons live in Redhill, just down the road, we are tier 2, and they are tier 4
@kittensarecute stop reading this site and watch something escapist. Lots of people on Twitter saying how amazing Schitts Creek has been for distraction this year
It’s hilarious. I’ve binge watched the first 3 seasons and am on 4 now. It really got my through a dark few months after losing several of my close family members to COVID.

TeenageMutantNinjaCovid · 22/12/2020 22:54

@Rosebel

I had a bad feeling when my dh mentioned it. If they shut schools my youngest daughter will go back in to her depressive state. She's autistic and absolutely needs routine. Technically if school is open to key worker children she could go in (we're both key workers) but if nursery shuts too not much point as I won't be able to go to work anyway. I'm dreading it. My job is secure but unskilled so if I take too much time off they'll probably get rid of me. But what am I meant to do with my 6 months old?
She is a vulnerable child and should have been attending school throughout. If they refuse to take her then contact the LA.

NC. I think a LOT of people aren't listening. And yes, I know it doesn't represent the whole country but..
I work for a place that sells new and used cars and also does repairs/MOT etc but I cover a lot of areas

Examples
Customers complaining we can't give them a lift (distancing..) and that they can't wait for their car and that we can't serve tea/coffee

Customers (in lockdown) travelling from Wales to Cheshire for an MOT Confused (I'm talking 50+ customers, not 1 or 2) surely you take it somewhere local because well, stay local

Customers wanting a scratch repaired mid lockdown (we were shut)

Customers complaining they can't test drive a car mid lockdown. Also complaining we were closed mid lockdown

People in tier 4 wanting an alloy repair for a small dent and can they come into sales at the same time. Er. No? Sales is closed!

Basically my job is completely as normal but mega busy and with added rules that customers don't like. They are even moaning we are shutting at lunch time - on Christmas Eve Confused someone asked me today why we were shut on Friday. Wasn't sure how to answer that!!

The last 6 months have been crazy, busier than we have ever been with sales and the repair side. It's honestly like boris says lockdown and the entire country thinks "perfect time to get a new car" Confused
I love my job usually but my god this year has been tough and I've never said the words due to covid/distancing/lockdown/PANDEMIC as much

jessstan1 · 22/12/2020 23:09

It will hardly make any difference, we all know what the regs/guidelines are for Christmas day, bubbles etc, and even he can't predict how things will be after Christmas.

I don't even know if he has made an announcement today, he never says much anyway. I'm in tier 4 and advised not to go out, which is fine, I don't, and I can be in a bubble on Christmas day. He says carry on with Christmas plans. I found this about tomorrow:

@Jenasaurus same town as me, odd seeing the 100 bus go past knowing it goes tier 2 then too tier 4 and back again.

Schitts Creek is brilliant after the first few episodes - stick with it and it will enhance your life

Aye. That pretty much sums it up...
mumwon · 23/12/2020 00:05

Apparently according to East Anglian newspaper Suffolk is going to go from tier 2 to tier 4 imminently - they heard from local NHS
which is going to make Hancock very popular in his constituency
Its hardly surprising as Essex is just over the border & we don't have border guards - yet! Shock

tallbirduk · 23/12/2020 00:16

@Osirus 3 weeks ago we were in the same position as you are now (also in Hants), now we are well above average and our area has just “gone purple” on the Covid map.

We’ve felt pretty safe throughout because rates have been so low, no one knew anyone who’d had Covid, etc but it’s suddenly and seriously gone tits up.

PandemicPavolova · 23/12/2020 00:21

Sophie page 2,yes very good point.

PhilCornwall1 · 23/12/2020 00:49

Alas, it won't be good news.

PigletJohn · 23/12/2020 01:42

@PhilCornwall1

Alas, it won't be good news.
you mean he's not announcing his resignation?
PhilCornwall1 · 23/12/2020 02:03

you mean he's not announcing his resignation?

Trouble is who'd take his place? Hancock, Gove? If he did go, I'd say Williamson should get the job, every press conference would be like an episode of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em.

DipSwimSwoosh · 23/12/2020 02:32
 1. I watched this on the BBC news at 6pm yesterday. They said they were in a meeting about England and there would be an announcement Weds.
 2. Not comfortable with the 'dinghy to France' jokes.
3asAbird · 23/12/2020 06:01

Personally I know selfish I prefer to stick with tiers than national.
We tier 2 152 per 100k currently
Hospital busy but not overwhelmed.
Just closing all schools for month something we never done since 1st lockdown May have huge impact on the r rate.
Husbands lost nearly 2 k in wages because he's non essential retail but management not been furloughed expected to work through on basic pay as hes low basic and mostly commission .
If we keep some areas tier 2 and 3 that might help overall uk economy more so than lockdown.
I know seems like ever other country national lockdown and we follow like sheep.
Let's give tier 4 a chance.
I think if wasent Xmas and schools open a lot less people be out and about.

SpongeCake23 · 23/12/2020 08:44

Any news about South Oxfordshire? We are bordering tier 4 areas but currently in a 2.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 23/12/2020 09:03

Philcornwall, every episode is a comedy now! Gav would just be the final tweak of exquisiteness.

icedancerlenny · 23/12/2020 09:33

Where I am in South Oxfordshire we have tier 4 within 3 miles in every direction except one! Abs our local market town is heaving and the pubs are rammed apparently! I am hoping we will be moved up to stop everyone descending on us!
