What do you think Boris is going to announce tomorrow? Is he going to announce a full lockdown the day before Christmas Eve?

OP posts:

Frazzled2207, l thought this was today? Dh mentioned he’d seen it on the news.

timeforawine · 22/12/2020 21:08

Tier 4 for more is my guess

RedToothBrush · 22/12/2020 21:08

AND The FT...

Wider UK tier 4 curbs ‘inevitable’ as new strain spreads rapidly
Pressure on PM to act intensifies after daily figures show record 36,804 infections

Can we call that a full house yet?

I've been hearing stuff all day from real life sources, local media and now national media about more restrictions.

To be blunt about it, I don't think that there is much alternative at this point...

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/12/2020 21:09

Has anyone got a link to actually confirm an announcement tomorrow or are we all just going of what the papers think will happen ( although I think we will see something too )

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 22/12/2020 21:10

But there’s a horrible thread going off on here from people who vehemently oppose another lockdown. The anger in it was scary.

randomer · 22/12/2020 21:11

re the hair,it is cruel to mock somebody's appearance but when you are a player on the world stage,you must maintain a professional appearance. Smart,well fitting clothes and good personal grooming say I care,this matters.

January21 · 22/12/2020 21:11

if you take christmas out of the equation what exactly IS tier 4? no different to any other lockdown is it?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 22/12/2020 21:12

Oh Lord, please let it be only a Zombie Apocalypse...

SwankySharky · 22/12/2020 21:12

Support bubbles have been there from the start .

No they haven't - we did at least two months of shielding with no support bubble allowance.

Hopefully it is a vaccine approval announcement!

CoffeeCreamandSugar · 22/12/2020 21:13

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

But there’s a horrible thread going off on here from people who vehemently oppose another lockdown. The anger in it was scary.
When your industry is decimated, you have no money to feed or clothe your children and are struggling just to keep a roof over their heads it’s entirely understandable to feel angry isn’t it?

Thankfully I am not in that situation myself but I can understand the anger. I think I know what thread you are talking about.

Oly4 · 22/12/2020 21:14

I’m actually in favour of locking down til all over 50s and vulnerable Patients are vaccinated. Hopefully by Easter.
On the upside, Oxford is about to get the go ahead and we have shit loads of it

Seriouslymole · 22/12/2020 21:15

@Crazycatlady83 you have my vote.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/12/2020 21:15

@Arseinthecoopwindow yes I have seen this as well
I am kind of suprised as we are all in some form of lockdown , many if us can't see friends and family as pissing down doesn't make an outside meet possible even tier 2 , tier 3 . Tier 4 practically in lockdown and only small parts of country with a little less restrictions
Although looking at cornwall all though as a whole numbers are lower there are a few little pockets going up
Im in tier 2 area and won't be surprised if we go tier 2
Although i can see us having a more whole lockdown as all other nations are doing really
With numbers as they are I am not sure there is a choice really

EmmanuelleMakro · 22/12/2020 21:16

Assume is this

Boris announcement
IndieTara · 22/12/2020 21:17

Birmingham papers are saying it's likely to go into tier 4 from Boxing Day

EstherMumsnet · 22/12/2020 21:17

Hi @kittensarecute,

We are really sorry to hear you are feeling this way.

We hope you don't mind, but when these threads are flagged up to us we usually add a link to our Mental Health resources. You can also go to the Samaritans website or email them on [email protected]. Support from other Mumsnetters is great and we really hope you will be able to take some comfort from your fellow posters, but as other MNers will tell you, it's really a good idea to seek RL help and support as well.

We also like to remind everyone that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.

TokyoSushi · 22/12/2020 21:17

Looks like I'll be starting Schitts Creek on Boxing Day then 😑

loulouljh · 22/12/2020 21:18

Civil unrest is imminent..such nonsene going on..

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 22/12/2020 21:18

But a lot of it was about attacks on rights rather than financial stuff

TheOtherMaryBerry · 22/12/2020 21:18

But there’s a horrible thread going off on here from people who vehemently oppose another lockdown. The anger in it was scary.

It's because people are desperate. Desperation is scary, really fucking scary. People's lives are being destroyed and they're terrified, no wonder they're angry.

January21 · 22/12/2020 21:19

@loulouljh

Civil unrest is imminent..such nonsene going on..
in what form? how would civil unrest look? a few more demonstrations?
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 22/12/2020 21:20

@coffeecreamandsugar but with numbers as they are industries will get affected anyway if a pub has half staff off isolating , they are having less visitors anyway as in most areAs if open people can't mix and in other areas obviously shut anyway
If the numbers keep going as they are looking at todays figures , I don't think a lockdown is really a choice more the only option but roll out the vaccinations as quick as possible
The whole world hasn't closed there borders to us for nothing
( although I think prob in lots of countries by now )

@nosswith

Michael Gove wanting restrictions more than some other cabinet ministers is consistent with what has been previously reported.
Think Gove is carefully positioning himself as different to Johnson so he's in pole position to take over.
Googlebrained · 22/12/2020 21:21

@kittensarecute I know it's really tough at the moment. But like any bad time it will be over and things will look brighter. In the meantime get as much support as you can. Maybe start your own thread? Contact your GP? Maybe get in touch with a professional counsellor for some support. If you're under 35 Papyrus supplies a hopeline or you can get in touch with text support through Shout if your in the UK, or you can download the Stay Alive free google app to help with suicidal thoughts.

I hate to think of you struggling. Also watching comedies, listening to cheerful music and getting plenty of fresh air are all good tips.

Take care Flowers
