@JacobReesMogadishu So sorry about your DM Thanks

Hayeahnobut · 31/10/2020 13:59

@Chloemol Tory ministers who leak state secrets are promoted, not removed. Look at Williamson and Patel.

Splodgetastic · 31/10/2020 14:01

How irritating. They should announce this to Parliament and debate first. This is supposed to be a democracy FFS.

BlueBrian · 31/10/2020 14:02

Boris Johnson press conference now at 5pm, not 4pm, according to Sky

GhostsUpMePosts · 31/10/2020 14:03

To be fair @Splodgetastic - they are also meant to be professionals and good at their jobs. They are meant to help the country, not rob it blind and screw it up for their own benefit.

Nothing is as it should be Sad

IEat · 31/10/2020 14:06

If there's a national lockdown the media will spend weeks saying its the wrong thing to do even though they've spent weeks saying it should happen.

Aragog · 31/10/2020 14:07

Press conference will now be at 5pm, not 4

Because of the rugby on BBC?

coffeelover3 · 31/10/2020 14:08

We were told there would be a lockdown from around 18 November... not sure how they know that yet. so yeah, I would reckon he will say 'follow the guidelines' blah blah blah and do nothing. maybe move some more areas to tier 3... we should set up a prediction bet lol

Choux · 31/10/2020 14:08

Seems the southwest which has limited hospital capacity and now has a surge in hospitalisations (from a low level) is the area most as risk:

The document, leakedd_ to the BBC, gives dates when the NHS will run out of capacity: first its standard capacity, and then when the NHS Nightingale ‘surge’ hospitals are filled. It also gives the ‘last day to prevent rationing of emergency healthcare’. To ration emergency healthcare – as opposed to routine operations – implies allowing people to die who could otherwise be saved: precisely the Lombardy-style scenarios that so focused minds last time. That date seems to be tomorrow for the South West and North West,

@JacobReesMogadishu

It’s the not knowing which is upsetting me more, dragging it out. I feel quite tearful and anxious and sick now and I’m not normally like this. My mum died this morning though so I’m not in the best place I guess.
So sorry @JacobReesMogadishu. Sending love and hug.
Ignoringequally · 31/10/2020 14:09

@LolalovesLondon

I know the schools won’t close but will parents send their DC in?
Pretty sure they will in my area. We had barely any pull theirs out before schools closed (as parents were working, so how could they?) and 99% uptake of places when certain year groups went back in June (so parents could work). The vast majority of those will still be working (either out of the house or from home) in the event of another lockdown.
iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 31/10/2020 14:10

I don't think they want to give notice because people go out for a last hurrah and get pissed up. But the weather is so awful today it might solve that issue.

frustrationcentral · 31/10/2020 14:11

@JacobReesMogadishu Thanks

So sorry x

BenchHench · 31/10/2020 14:11

@Polkadotties

I just don’t see what a lockdown will achieve if schools are still functioning as they currently are.
Schools need to close for the lockdown to work.

Giningit · 31/10/2020 14:12

@Chloemol

Whoever leaked it needs finding and removed. It’s led to lots of anger and angst and unnecessary speculation
This is the government’s MO. They leak to friendly newspapers, test the water, then if public opinion is favourable, they go with it. So my money is on Gove or Cummings
the80sweregreat · 31/10/2020 14:14

I'm sorry for the poster whose mum died.
That is so sad.
It's been a dreadful year and the handling of the pandemic has been very hit and miss ( mostly miss!) a few things have been good , but it's clear that when they wanted power back in December a pandemic was the last thing they thought would ever happen. It was meant to be brexit only this year!
I hope they come up with a clear plan today ; something solid and not just waffle.
People are scared and worried for jobs and their children and the economy.
I agree though , that whatever they say or do today or next week , won't please everyone at all. They are really up against it now and people leaking things to the press is beyond reproach really.

TerribleAtUsernames · 31/10/2020 14:14

There’s a part of me that thinks we should lockdown now before things get any worse but I’m worried because my mental health took a huge hit during the first lockdown and I’m not sure I could cope with a second, just hope it’s not indefinite like the last, because the not knowing made things so much harder

the80sweregreat · 31/10/2020 14:15

They are saying 5pm now on bbc.

icelollycraving · 31/10/2020 14:15

@JacobReesMogadishu so sorry for your loss, truly. Flowers

JacobReesMogadishu · 31/10/2020 14:16

Thanks everyone.

Teateaandmoretea · 31/10/2020 14:16

@JacobReesMogadishu I’m so so sorry Flowers

wineandsunshine · 31/10/2020 14:17

@Delta1 🤣🤣 that would make my year!

randomer · 31/10/2020 14:18

if thousands of people are dying every day ,another 16,000 will die before Thursday?

ivftake1 · 31/10/2020 14:19

@JosephineDeBeauharnais

He won’t say anything new. He’ll say things are bad, getting worse in places, comply to save Xmas, considering further restrictions, schools stay open, work from home, wear a mask piffle waffle piffle waffle. Then he’ll be forced to come out again mid week and say national lockdown from next weekend. I won’t be watching.
You're interested enough to open this thread and reply, but reckon you'll not watch? Doubt it
