Sooner than expected! Wondering what he will say...

Ah, worrying that it's today when it was said it would be next week. Bad news that he's actually working on a weekend too!

Chloemol · 31/10/2020 13:15

Whoever leaked it needs finding and removed. It’s led to lots of anger and angst and unnecessary speculation

Nellle · 31/10/2020 13:16

Leak enquiry launched.

Most of the recent leaks have clearly been intentional, but it seems this time not so.

Deelish75 · 31/10/2020 13:17

The Coronavirus Act still allows them to act unilaterally and debate later in the case of emergency. IIRC, this was agreed on the proviso that it would be courteous to ensure debate happened beforehand wherever possible.

If they announce today, before parliament sits, no doubt the government will get a roasting from the speaker, but what does it change? They still have the right to do it... confused

Ok thanks, guess we’ll have to wait and see.

slipperywhensparticus · 31/10/2020 13:17

Fucks sake

Theredjellybean · 31/10/2020 13:18

I will be watching the rugby
Its just so bloody depressing.. My dd due to start new job Monday, she was made redundant at beginning of lockdown, this was first interview after applying for over 500 jobs.. And she was so excited.
I fear for her mental health if it gets pulled.
Her and thousands of other people trying to find jobs.
I am also not convinced people will adhere to new rules, so many pe blatantly ignoring them now...

reefedsail · 31/10/2020 13:18

@Elphame

I wonder if he'll do a Drakeford? Calling a press conference just to say he'll tell us what's happening on Monday
Yes, I think he will do this. I think it will be 'Do not go out and buy all the toilet paper or have one last party you idiots, we'll let you know what is on the back of our fag packet next week.'
BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 31/10/2020 13:19

It seems so unnecessary to do a full lockdown everywhere (if that is what they're going to do), we're in a tier 1 area and the closure of unessential businesses will be horrendous for people who still haven't recovered from the last lockdown.

GabsAlot · 31/10/2020 13:19

well its good theyve decided to do it today so many reports true or not need to be adressed

AsPerMyLastEmail · 31/10/2020 13:19

I hope he’ll say something decisive so we know where we stand. In some ways I hope it there is going to be a lockdown, it starts today. Get on with it instead of days of limbo. But I know that practically there probably needs to be a short notice period.

CoronaIsWatching · 31/10/2020 13:19

If you look on the Daily Mail online comments, they're calling on people to take to the streets and not comply, and the comments have massive upvotes.

dollychopss · 31/10/2020 13:20

@Jourdain11

Apparently they are holding the cabinet meeting now. Number 10 very angry that there was a leak. Makes it sound, to me, that they have not absolutely agreed or decided on at least the details.
I get that feeling too

I wish van tam was joining then not Vallance can't stand him

Madcats · 31/10/2020 13:20

I think they should simply rename the Houses of Parliament "The Leaky Cauldron" and have done with it.

BarbaraofSeville · 31/10/2020 13:20

Obviously the leak is a bad thing, but it's good that they've responded by bringing forward the annoucement, if that's what they do and not more Boris Waffle as it will be especially awful for all the restaurants etc who won't know if they're going to be told that they have to close again, so will be worrying about whether they need to order in supplies.

Firefliess · 31/10/2020 13:20

I don't think it'll be a lockdown just the same as the previous one. Schools staying open seems to be the likelihood. But also last time everything shut - even a lot of places that hadn't been forced to. And people complied because they thought it would just be a few weeks initially. Plus they had the furlough scheme for millions of people. I can't see all of that happening again.

Ickabog · 31/10/2020 13:21

Quoting this post as it made me laugh. A rare achievement in these depressing times. Thank you 🥰
Jourdain11 · 31/10/2020 13:26

@MarshaBradyo This was the one I read, in fact before the press conference was announced.

www.google.com/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/boris-johnson-may-decide-to-bring-forward-announcements-on-lockdown-plans-after-details-leaked-12119494

Although maybe it's a double bluff - they leak, then say they are angry so that people won't think it was them...

OP posts:
the80sweregreat · 31/10/2020 13:26

The daily mail had this headline about a lockdown late last night. The comments section are not in favour at all ( maybe one or two , but mostly not) it was ' a cabinet source' !
Leaking it like this isn't good. I suppose they can't always stop people doing these things , but it is bad.

JacobReesMogadishu · 31/10/2020 13:27

So do you think it’ll be an immediate lockdown like last time when he said stay at home? Or a couple of days notice?

cologne4711 · 31/10/2020 13:28

@BlessedBeTheFruitCake

It seems so unnecessary to do a full lockdown everywhere (if that is what they're going to do), we're in a tier 1 area and the closure of unessential businesses will be horrendous for people who still haven't recovered from the last lockdown.
I agree, I am in tier one and my son's 6th form college with around 2000 students has had one documented case. That student and their close contacts are now back at college. I know they've said schools would remain open but I do wonder for how long.

I hope they'll let garden centres stay open this time (and allow small groups to exercise outside). I feel sorry for my swimming teacher though, she's only been back at work since the end of August.

GabsAlot · 31/10/2020 13:28

i just want a day or twos notice this time

howsers · 31/10/2020 13:29

I doubt it will be immediate. I think they will lay crumbs, something along the lines of numbers are concerning, we are keeping a close eye. People need to want to lockdown as it's not possible to enforce.

Delta1 · 31/10/2020 13:30

He'd better be dressed up, that's all I'm saying... 🧙‍♀️

Lockheart · 31/10/2020 13:30

I am hoping the fact that it was an apparently unauthorized leak means the original story is not totally accurate. But little point speculating until the official press conference.
