London Tier 2 Lockdown?

daily fail link

This sounds pretty definite (yet another leak) - so no mixing of households inside at all from today in London?
@cheninblanc me too, you’re not alone. Not knowing what and when will be happening in the coming weeks is nerve wracking indeed. Can’t make any plans just in case.

It’s clear that they’re avoiding going into tier 2 in London until it’s too late.
Yes deja vu.
Just like with the first wave.

Sadiq is fighting for his city. He knows what is needed and is desperately pushing for it. Unfortunately he's up against it.

It's definitely unfair on everyone - businesses and people going about their everyday lives. I saw an interview on the news tonight with a pub landlord (in Manchester, I think). He made a lot of sense. He understands if he has to close but just needs to actually know what's what. He said the uncertainty is what's most damaging. He's right.

The UK as a whole needs decisive leadership and action.

CallmeFP · 14/10/2020 21:14

Exactly it @SheepandCow

I don’t mind either if we have the short circuit or the tier 2 although of course it’s not ideal, just for the greater good. It’s not knowing that’s causing a lot of anxiety.

It’s exactly like Wave 1. Boris doesn’t give a toss about people’s lives and treats us like little children.

I feel exactly the same. The not knowing is doing my head in x
Aridane · 15/10/2020 01:28

Boris doesn’t listen to khan. We had 28 dead bus drivers in London before Boris would listen to act on khan’s pleas for mandatory masks on public transport

roarfeckingroarr · 15/10/2020 01:44

@SheepandCow do you work for Sadiq? You certainly have a v high opinion of him, one I definitely do not share.

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 15/10/2020 03:59

Infind its the not knowing too.

Each time theres an announcement I end up looking far too much online for updates. But of course its just ekdia speculation.

SquirmOfEels · 15/10/2020 07:00

Speculation is continuing this morning - framed in terms of when, not if, we move to tier 2.

Is there a need to move this week? Do any boroughs have their half term next week, or are they all (like ours) the week after?

cheninblanc · 15/10/2020 07:17

There's a meeting this morning to discuss it, my fear is now its all over the press people will go out on groups one last time this wknd and the situation will be far worse than it should be

If you can bear more speculation! Also front page Times today...

SquirmOfEels · 15/10/2020 08:01

I think behaviourists allow for the one 'last hurrah' and decide when it's better to have one or two nights of reckless behaviour (to get it out of your system, make a protest) rather than have lots of pretty risky conduct over a longer period.

It's a bit like when there was a massive piss up on the Tube the night the ban came in. But pretty good compliance after.

CallmeFP · 15/10/2020 08:41

A lot of private schools in my area break up a week before state schools so it’s all jumbled up.

CallmeFP · 15/10/2020 08:43

Everyone agrees it’s inevitable, just Boris as usual dragging his heels until everyone is exhausted.

IrenetheQuaint · 15/10/2020 08:55

I imagine what will happen will be the same as seems to have been happening in other local lockdown areas, which is that conscientious people (mostly lower-risk anyway after months of being careful) will obey the new rules and have their lives made more miserable as a result, whereas a large number of people will ignore them and keep mixing, thus continuing to spread the virus. So the worst of both worlds.

Endlesscoathunt · 15/10/2020 09:27

I actually think it’s going to be announced today - remains to be seen whether it be from Friday or Monday...

Endlesscoathunt · 15/10/2020 09:54

From midnight on Friday. Confirmed now (prior to statement)

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 15/10/2020 09:59

So those who think we are sacrificing the young to save the elderly. What is your solution to the hospitals being full of Covid patients ?

Remember the following:

It is not possible to keep hospitals entirely Covid free once it is present in these numbers.

It is not possible shield the vulnerable and those over 50 (or whichever age you pick) without services completely breaking down.

Genuinely interested in answers.

paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking · 15/10/2020 10:00

Sorry wrong thread.

pontypridd · 15/10/2020 10:06

If we're in Tier 2 are we allowed to leave London?

pontypridd · 15/10/2020 10:07

I don't mean for good. Just for half term.

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 15/10/2020 10:14

@pontypridd I'd like a bit more clarity too.

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 15/10/2020 10:14

Very frustrating as we are right on the border and live and work on both sides....

FieldsAndSun · 15/10/2020 10:15

Are we in Tier two?

eurochick · 15/10/2020 10:16

Has anyone seen what they are defining as London? We are right on the border (inside the M25 but not in a London borough).

CallmeFP · 15/10/2020 10:17

as of midnight, so from saturday we are in tier 2

@pontypridd as I understand it, you may travel with your family, go to restuarants with your family etc but no mixing. It would depend on where you are going and check what restrictions are there.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong!

cheninblanc · 15/10/2020 10:18

So no more dithering, London is tier 2. I live in Kent but spend a lot of time in London as i work and spend weekends here out walking etc. At least we now know and have no more press leaks
